Ireland (John) Papers, 1888-1901 John Ireland, son of Patrick and Rachel (Newton) Ireland, was born near Millerstown, Kentucky, on 21 January 1827. He served for several years as constable and sheriff of his home county, began to study law in 1851, and was admitted to the bar in 1852. He established himself at Seguin, Texas, in 1853. Ireland, mayor of Seguin in 1858, was a delegate to the Secession Convention in 1861 and in 1862 volunteered as a private in the Confederate Army, advancing to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was stationed on the Texas coast at the end of the war. Ireland was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1866 and served as district judge from 1866 to 1867, when he was removed by Phillip Sheridan as an impediment to Reconstruction. Ireland was elected to the House of Representatives of the Thirteenth Legislature and to the Senate of the Fourteenth Legislature. He served as associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court until the Constitution of 1876 reduced that body to three instead of five judges. He was unsuccessful as a candidate against Richard Coke for the United States Senate in 1876, and against Gustave Schleicher for the United States House of Representatives in 1878. The John Ireland Papers primarily consist of legal documents and correspondence concerning Ireland's land investments and the execution of his will. Ireland's land investments involved the purchase of a large (2573 acres) tract of land in Jones County, Texas, through land agent A.J. Fry of San Antonio. The problems encountered with Ireland's will arose from the fact that he was the guardian of his grandson, Ireland Graves, and had made land purchases for his ward while the latter was only fifteen years old. As Ireland Graves was still a minor when John Ireland died, a dispute arose in the courts as to who would be best suited to assume his guardianship and administer the land he owned but could not control. Miscellanea include calculations related

In April, we were confident that our prompt policy responses to the tragic events of a year ago would contribute to a strong, sustained rebound in global growth. While this remains the most probable outcome, a number of uncertainties have emerged in the intervening months. Economic activity has slowed in a number of major industrial countries. Asset prices have been volatile, reflecting, in part, high-profile corporate financial scandals, heightened geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices. And a number of Latin American countries have experienced financial difficulties, which in the cases of Brazil and Uruguay, led to extraordinary financial support from the Fund.

BBC Northern Ireland JB Home ... Help Like this page? Send it to a friend! Web Watch Each week Emma Dunseith joins JB for a round up for what's new, interesting, entertaining or just plain bizarre on the world wide web. Here are some of the sites which you may like to pay a visit! Here’s a site which I really was glad to come across. It features around 950 restaurants around the UK and even better than that, it offers you the opportunity to eat out for as little as £5. The idea is that restaurants are seldom full so they work this site and post tables online, which would otherwise be vacant......... so they can offer you a variety of discounts. It’s free to register and you can have deals of the day sent you to your mailbox. You can also book a few of the restaurants in advance from the site, but you will find the full quota of participants for the evening to come. Just to give you an idea… there are around 20 participating restaurants in the Belfast area and offers range from 20% off your evening meal, to buy one, get one free and the likes of £40 per couple for a 3 course meal with wine in a smart hotel restaurant….There’s a great variety of establishments on offer in Belfast from pizzerias and noodle bars to well respected restaurants.

The Rusks From Ireland This data base consists of approximately 252 Rusk descendants of John Rusk who was born about 1750 in Ulster Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1791. While some of the information came from personal acquaintances, most came from published documents and other Rusks I have contacted over the years.
I am a descendant of John Rusk through his son, David Rusk (b. abt. 1820 in Clemson, South Carolina). David and his brother, Thomas Jefferson Rusk, both fought in the Battle of San Jacinto against the Mexican Army for Texas's Independence from Mexico in 1836.
My father was William Carl Rusk (b. 4/8/1912, d. 6/14/1978); my grandfather was William Henry Rusk (b. 9/11/1885, d. 5/10/1982); my g-grandfather was David Franklin Rusk (b. 7/25/1852, d. 12/24/1911); my gg-grandfather was David Rusk (b. abt. 1820). David was T. J. Rusk's brother. I was born 1/5/1940 in Wills Point, Texas (about 50 miles east of Dallas) and now live in Richardson, Texas.
I use Family Tree Maker Version 8.0 and will be happy to share my computer file with interested cousins at no charge other than copy and postage costs. Contact me at 972-690-1670. My postal address is 628 Wentworth Drive, Richardson, TX 75081

Policy Issues in Ireland - John O'Connell
The image of Ireland as a homogenous society, predominantly white, monocultural and Roman Catholic, has had a major impact on policy issues for minority ethnic groups. It has meant that the existence of such groups could be largely ignored or even denied. Even as recently as 1990, it was possible for an Irish MEP to make the following statement to the European Parliament Committee of Inquiry into Racism and Xenophobia: '(since) immigration has not been a reality at all (in Ireland) we do not have racial minorities.... we have something in the region of 20,000 registered aliens in the country... we do not have problems such as are faced in other countries.' The same MEP also stated the following in a written submission to that committee: 'Ireland is a racially homogeneous country with no ethnic minority groups. As a consequence there are no racial problems of the kind experienced in countries with such groups. Neither is there a large presence of foreigners... the position could alter if the influx became sustained... there is, however, a minority group of travelling people giving rise to some of the problems associated with racism.' It is not surprising, given this position, that issues such as multi-culturalism, non denominational schools and anti-racism have not featured very prominently in past debates about the Irish education system. The education system could have carried on without having to adjust in any way to accommodate the needs of the few minority groups which existed. One significant minority group which became more visible and a challenge to the system was Travellers. The official response to the educational needs of Travellers is worth examining, not only in terms of evaluating its effectiveness for the group, but also in terms of how the education system responds to difference in general, as well as its capacity to handle diversity.

Composers Biography Languages John Ireland Life Works Best Works Photo Gallery ... Home Page John Ireland Life A pupil at the Royal College of Music in London, John Ireland studied with Sir C.H. Stanford and mixed with such contemporaries as Holst and Vaughan Williams He later taught composition at the Royal College, while earning his living for many years as an organist and choirmaster. After destroying all his early work, he concentrated on the composition of picturesque orchestral pieces. Elgar , while admitting contemporary influences from abroad into a very personal idiom. He used his understanding of the piano to compose many descriptive works and his sensitive poetic songs released English song composition from the Teutonic style. John Ireland Works Ireland's "Piano Concerto" and his "Concertino pastorale" for strings are notable works, with his once popular "A London Overture". Other orchestral music includes the prelude "The Forgotten Rite" and the symphonic rhapsody "Mai-Dun". He provided a very competent score for the film "The Overlanders".
