Alfred State finishes 3rd at Districts
After falling just two wins short of a trip to the NJCAA Division II World Series last year the 2004 Alfred State College baseball team looks
Kenney has led his teams to seven straight 40-win seasons, four Region III Championships, and four WNYAC Championships. Over the past seven seasons the Pioneers have averaged 44 wins a school year.
The Pioneers will rely on leadership on and off the field from their middle infield duo of Jeff Fetzner (Greece Athena) and Joe Mariano (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy). Fetzner hit .412 this fall after hitting .425 last spring. He was named All-Region and All-WNYAC and will see most of his time at second base this spring. Mariano was also named All-Region and All-WNYAC after hitting .388 last spring and .367 this fall. He will start at shortstop after playing most of last season in centerfield.
Joining Fetzner and Mariano in the infield will be Travis Winter (South Seneca), Jake Alsheimer (South Seneca), Josh Perkins (Niagara Wheatfield), and Joe Ciaschi (Ithaca). Winter will be in the lineup at first base or DH. He hit .281 this fall with four doubles. Alsheimer, a two-time All-Finger Lakes team shortstop, will see time at first and at third after transferring from Monroe CC this winter. Perkins will play third base after leading the team with 15 RBI this fall. Ciaschi will see time at either second or in the outfield.
Brandon Hall (Oakfield Alabama) leads the trio of catchers for the Pioneers. Hall, a 1st team all-state utility player last year, hit .311 this fall and was a 2nd team All-WNYAC selection. John Marinaccio (LeRoy) and Jake Creeley (Ellicottville) will also see time behind the plate. Jason Nihoff (Cato Meridian) will also battle for time after recovering from off-season surgery.

Several initiatives had already improved access in the hospital, such as hospital-in-the-home, pre-admission and day-of-surgery admission strategies. In addition, an integrated approach to bed management was in place. This involved daily review of priorities for emergency and elective admission, through a centrally coordinated bed assignment process, overseen by senior medical and nursing managers. Interventions The funded initiatives in the Alfred ED include increased senior medical staff cover after hours and the development of fast-track , an area of the ED where a doctor and a nurse work in partnership to fast-track the patients' care. Other hospital initiatives included a targeted length-of-stay strategy , involving strategies such as additional care coordination for patients admitted to specific clinical units, and the introduction of a weekly ward round by senior medical and nursing staff to facilitate early discharge planning. A third project focused on strategies to avoid patients' presenting to the ED, such as

Rushey Hill Caravan Site from 1960 to 1987
    Written by Alfred W.N. Langrish (1909 - 1998)
Langrish Family History This is an account of life at the Rushey Hill Caravan Park on the cliffs at Peacehaven, Sussex from the 1960's to the great storm or ' Hurricane' of October 1987. Written by residents Alfred Langrish and his partner Marge. It records the changes to the site and the dramatic events of the Great Storm. Alfred Langrish completed his 12 years Naval service and returned home. He had divorced his wife and made a new home in a caravan on the cliff top caravan site in Peacehaven. He writes:
' We will start off at 1960 with Marge and Alf; We had known each other from many years before when we had both worked at CVA's Engineering factory at Coombe Road, Brighton. After which we settled in two caravans at the Rushey Hill Caravan Park, our vans close together. The site then was in a fairly primitive state, water was outside, no electricity on site, wash houses up the road, another down to the cliff top.
Our warden was Mr Akehurst, a real old countryman who carried our gas bottles on his shoulder. No power mowers then, we used to cut the grass with a scythe. Us old pioneers consisted of a few residents and some people who we saw only in the summer.
