Q: I click and click and click, but nothing is happening.
A: Click down on a bar and drag it back and forth, holding your mouse button down. Q: All the other bars slide when I am just trying to slide one bar.
A: That's because all the bars contain the same things (works or tracks from works); they are just sorted in different ways (by title, by date, by length, etc.). When you slide to a work on one bar, all the other bars will slide to show you the position and value of the same work on the other bars. Q: What are those little vertical stripes on each sliding bar?

24. Let's Talk About Peter Boyle II And Philip Glass: A Review Of The Hours -- Todd
A review of 'The Hours' by Todd Ollis, from the Floyd College Student Web Magazine.
http://www.floyd.edu/webzine/backbytes/features25/ollisreview.htm
Let's talk about Peter Boyle II and Philip Glass:
A review of The Hours
by Todd Ollis
The new film The Hours begins as it ends, with the suicide of Virginia Woolf—played by Nicole Kidman—in 1941, and director Stephen Daldry effectively laces the soundtrack with Woolf reading the suicide note she left behind. The note is addressed to her husband Leonard, played with wonderful reserve by Stephen Dillane, and in it she expresses the mental anguish she has come to live with and how she cannot let herself bring him down with her. Thus begin the connections made through three interrelated stories. In the first story (according to linear time) we follow Virginia Woolf through one day in the life as she is beginning a new novel, Mrs. Dalloway . Woolf deals with gossiping servants, a loving but worried sister, a husband who watches her every move with only her well being in mind, and doctors who are suggesting how she should be living her fragile life. Kidman is magnificent as Woolf and it goes beyond the obvious physical changes that she made. There is an ultimate confidence and vulnerability that she portrays at the same time, and shows Woolf searching for a purpose in Mrs. Dalloway's life as well as her own. The second story takes place in 1950's Los Angeles. Julianne Moore is a repressed housewife raising her young son and pregnant with another. John C. Reilly plays her husband, but this is such a small role that it should probably have been played by some unknown actor to keep the audience at a safe distance. Moore starts her day by beginning to read

...MIXED MEDIA ART ...ARCHITECTURAL ART ...MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE
Though non-objective, the mixed-media art of Julie Mihalisin and Philip Walling feels personal. The interrelationships of the materials combined with the work’s references to time and space bring artwork and viewer emotionally closer. Whether it is the physical relationship it creates as architectural art, or the more allusive reference to time, when such common materials are caught in the act of collaboration, we are given an opportunity to view them as we view life, from whatever perspective we choose. These wall-mounted mixed-media sculptures throw a wrench into conventional modes of categorization by utilizing materials and processes that cross-reference architecture, art and craft. Often referred to as architectural art, they draw upon a smattering of diverse techniques from basketry to building foundations. Traditional metalworking and fiber techniques are used to create the metal armatures. The glass is formed with the slumping process, which allows it to behave naturally (as a liquid), and then stop at a precise moment of interaction. The concrete contains the glass and metal in cast geometric forms. Repetition of the elements creates a "freeze-frame" effect, while adding to the industrial quality of the casting process. Specific moments, organized in rigid formation, create a story.

I had happened upon Philip Glass, strolling along upper Broadway, and he invited me in to hear some new music. He dropped the cassette into his player and turned up the volume. A solemn passacaglia scored for the deepest registers of the organ began, gradually augmented by churchy arpeggios. About This Page
This is a general, introductory page about the music of Philip Glass. It covers his musical journey (as I have read about it), his musical style, some comments on where to start a collection and links to other pages. It is not a fan page - it is intended to be a page about music. I started this page when there were few web pages around about Philip Glass' music, but now there are many, including several far more detailed sites. These are listed below under the links section, and those looking for more detail should consult them, including Glass' own recently-launched official site. Newcomers to this composer, and those who can't be bothered navigating a large site, may find this page interesting. It started out for no particular reason, and took on a life of its own. Although it is updated only infrequently, I have left it here as it seems to be useful to some people and gets a lot of hits. Welcome in particular to visitors from the newsgroup

At 57, it might be a stretch to describe Philip Glass as an enfant terrible, but he still has the power to enflame the stuffed shirts of the classical music establishment. Quite distinct from his exquisitely formulaic composition style, his movie scores and confounding performance pieces are his regular dalliances with the lower orders. http://php.indiana.edu/~cchoyt/glassindex.html
photo from philipglass.com References to Composer Philip Glass in Popular Culture Philip Glass is one of the most prolific and influential composers of our time. With the countless film scores he has written and his collaborations with the likes of David Bowie, Natalie Merchant, Martin Scorcese, and Allen Ginsburg, it's a wonder that he isn't widely known except in circles of serious musicians and fans of avant-garde and offbeat music. This is starting to change though, due in part to a recent surge of Philip Glass exposure in mainstream media; especially comedy. From the offbeat references to Philip Glass in shows like The Simpsons and The Daily Show to his outright portrayal in South Park , he is gaining exposure to new types of people. His obscurity gives the shows an intelligent kick, while at the same time leading people to ask 'Who is Philip Glass?'. With the availability of information on the internet these days, it's not too hard to find out, and the Philip Glass fan base is exploding from a small cult following to a massive infusion into pop culture. On this site, you can find information on these references. For information on Glass himself, see the links section. If you know of any pop culture references to Philip Glass that aren't included on this site, feel free to email me . Thanks, and enjoy the site.
