Now some record stores have five or six CDs sitting behind the Beach divider at any one time. One can find her opera, Cabildo, in a recording by some of today’s outstanding singers (e.g., Lauren Flanigan, Paul Grove, and Anthony Dean Griffey). There are two recordings each of the piano concerto and “Gaelic” symphony, but not one of her delightful light orchestral work, Bal masque, played recently by the Boston Pops. Also in the half empty department are concert arias, the Mary Stuart soliloquy, Eilende Wolken, Segler der Lüfte, for mezzo and orchestra, and Jephthah’s Daughter, for soprano and orchestra—singers, take note. Of her songs, about one third are recorded to date, among them the best known—e.g., the three Browning songs—and lesser known but stunning “Rendez-vous” and “In the Twilight.” Still awaiting singers are many fine songs. For starters, see two songs to German texts, the peaceful “Nachts” (Night), and the dramatic “Allein,” the latter on the same text as Schubert’s “Ihr Bild” and Clara Schumann’s “Ich stand in dunklen Traümen.”

Block’s long-awaited biography—the first thorough scholarly study of Beach’s career—bestows upon Beach her rightful place among the important musical figures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Block’s narrative can be divided into three parts. The first part chronicles Beach’s upbringing and years in Boston. Particularly significant are her discussions about Beach’s relationships with her mother, Clara Cheney, and her husband, Dr. Henry Beach. Block also examines Beach’s development as a composer, focusing on her first large-scale works, the Mass in E b and the “Gaelic” Symphony. The second part deals with the period after the deaths of her husband and her mother when Beach left Boston and embarked on a career as a pianist, undertaking European and American concert tours. This period ends with Beach caring for her terminally ill cousin and then for her dying aunt in New Hampshire, during which time she wrote and performed little. The third part revolves around her stay at the MacDowell Colony and in New York where she eventually settled, continuing to write and perform in limited engagements.

It appears Chris was invited to their grand opening and Amy, Tails and Cream are going to beach a little ways from there. Amy tries to get Sonic to come but he doesn’t want to go and runs off to be alone. They fly off in the X-Tornado as Chris leaves in the car to go to the cermony. Cut to Sonic who is in some field of flowers laying on his back and just relaxing. Meanwhile Tails, Amy and Cream are at the beach, Amy is at first swimming in the ocean while Tails and Cream play in the sand. A short while later Amy goes onto the shore and starts daydreaming about being with Sonic at the beach; chasing him along the shore, trying to teach him how to swim, and finally sitting on the beach together. Of course Amy gets all giddy about her daydream and accidentally trips over a fallen coconut. She yells at the coconut (actually Sonic), before she watches a couple over by the rocks. Amy watches as the girl gives her boyfriend a braclet made from tiny little shells, then Amy gets the idea that if she makes a pretty braclet for Sonic he will start to like her more. So she goes about making one, getting interupted by Cream who’s wondering what she is doing (Amy hides the braclet from her). Just then Tails spots Eggman closing in on the Emerald Coast restort, where he scares off all the people and dismantles the place with his swarm of construction like robots.
