Welcome to the Great Lakes Environmental Center Homepage. GLEC has been actively involved in the area of applied environmental sciences for the past two decades and has been a recognized leader in a complex and diverse variety of both government and industrial environmental research, development, and problem solving throughout its history. GLEC is headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan. The Center was established in June 1989, to serve the expanding environmental needs in the Great Lakes basin and throughout the United States. The Center has diverse capabilities focused on aquatic/sediment toxicology, non-point source pollution evaluation, environmental chemistry, bioconcentration/bioaccumulation evaluation, environmental assessment and analysis, environmental planning, environmental compliance, risk assessment, regulatory services, and environmental surveys.     Participants of the 7th International Symposium. The symposium convened on the shores of the Baltic Sea in Tallinn, Estonia. It was a great success; scientists and students from 15 nations gathered to discuss current work related to eutrophication and hypoxia, as they affect both freshwater and marine fishes. Manuscripts from the symposium will be published in a proceedings volume and available for download from this website during 2004. Symposium sponsors included the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Estonian Academy of Sciences, the Estonian Agricultural University, the International Section of the American Fisheries Society and Montana State University (USA).
