Welcome to
Home Page
This site is dedicated to the wonderful 1971 movie Melody
and its lead actress Tracy Hyde. Melody also starred Jack Wild and
Mark Lester with a soundtrack by the Bee Gees.
Melody aka swalk
I first saw the movie Melody back in 1971 when I was 13 years old. It blew me away! I lived about ten miles from where the film was shot, went to a similar school and wore a similar school uniform. It was a movie about kids 'just like me!'
Melody starred Jack Wild and Mark Lester who were already famous from their roles in Oliver. The movie also starred a beautiful girl named Tracy Hyde. Along with teenaged boys everywhere I immediately fell madly in love with her. Over the years I never forgot about "Melody Perkins" and I often wondered what ever became of her. I searched high and low for a copy of the movie without success. Then along came the internet and slowly but surely I began to put the pieces together. Not only did I find a video of Melody, I was also able to find Tracy Hyde and contact her. I was also able to contact Mark Lester.
It's definitely a work in progress so check back often.

The Texas Jack Association is a non-profit organization that commemorates John B. "Texas Jack" Omohundro, cowboy, prairie scout, western hunting guide, Wild West showman, and partner of W. F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody and James B. "Wild Bill" Hickok. In his day, Texas Jack was a nationally known figure, however he is largely unknown today because he died at the young age of 33. The Texas Jack Association exists to rectify this situation, perpetuate the memory of the "forgotten scout," and see that he gets his deserved place in history. Actor starred in Westerns, TV series
Jack Elam in a 1979 publicity shot for his TV series "Struck by Lightning." Story Tools YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS Movies or Create your own Manage alerts What is this? LOS ANGELES, California (AP) Jack Elam, a character actor and favorite Western villain who menaced good-guy cowboys with his crazy grin, wild eyes and remorseless gunslinging in films such as "Rawhide" and "Wichita," has died, a family friend said Tuesday. Elam, who had been in declining health in recent years, died Monday afternoon at his home in Ashland, Oregon, of unspecified illness, according to longtime friend Al Hassan. Most biographies list the actor as 86 years old, but Hassan said he was actually 84, having lied about his age as a youngster to get work. "He was cantankerous in a great way, in a funny way," Hassan said. "He smoked, drank, all that stuff. He lived one of the best lives I've ever seen." Elam worked as a Hollywood accountant in the 1940s and had bit parts, usually uncredited, in the films "Trailin' West" (1949), "Quicksand" (1950) and "One Way Street" (1950).

Founded in 1994 by Tom St. Germain, our first brew was Bar Harbor Gold - it took 4 consecutive daily attempts to fire up the brewery, until we finally spent 17 hours brewing our first batch (a quarter batch of beer).
Today, it takes 6.5 to 7.5 hours to brew a compete batch.
Our Tap Room opened on May 19, 1995.
MCBC is located in our brand new building on route 3 in Bar Harbor and is celebrating our grand re-opening in June 2002! MCBC is a traditional English-style brewery where we mash at a single temperature. The brew kettle is bricked in with a whirlpool on the bottom. We use open fermenters with a top-fermenting ale yeast.
Our beer is transferred to our conditioning tanks where each batch goes through three additional tanks as the beer cools, gets fined (clarified), and is then carbonated in-line. From the last tank, finished beer is either bottled, kegged, or put into ‘Growlers.’

And now, the book. "Old longings nomadic leap,
Chafing at custom's chain;
Again from its brumal sleep
Wakens the ferine strain."
Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would have known that trouble was brewing, not alone for himself, but for every tide- water dog, strong of muscle and with warm, long hair, from Puget Sound to San Diego. Because men, groping in the Arctic darkness, had found a yellow metal, and because steamship and transportation companies were booming the find, thousands of men were rushing into the Northland. These men wanted dogs, and the dogs they wanted were heavy dogs, with strong muscles by which to toil, and furry coats to protect them from the frost. If you are shopping for

Chapters: Chapter 1 - Into the Primitive "Old longings nomadic leap,

Wakens the ferine strain." Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would have known that trouble was brewing, not alone for himself, but for every tide- water dog, strong of muscle and with warm, long hair, from Puget Sound to San Diego. Buck lived at a big house in the sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley. Judge Miller's place, it was called. It stood back from the road, half hidden among the trees, through which glimpses could be caught of the wide cool veranda that ran around its four sides. The house was approached by gravelled driveways which wound about through wide-spreading lawns and under the interlacing boughs of tall poplars. At the rear things were on even a more spacious scale than at the front. There were great stables, where a dozen grooms and boys held forth, rows of vine-clad servants' cottages, an endless and orderly array of outhouses, long grape arbors, green pastures, orchards, and berry patches. Then there was the pumping plant for the artesian well, and the big cement tank where Judge Miller's boys took their morning plunge and kept cool in the hot afternoon.

Chapters: Chapter 7 - The Sounding of the Call When Buck earned sixteen hundred dollars in five minutes for John Thornton, he made it possible for his master to pay off certain debts and to journey with his partners into the East after a fabled lost mine, the history of which was as old as the history of the country. Many men had sought it; few had found it; and more than a few there were who had never returned from the quest. This lost mine was steeped in tragedy and shrouded in mystery. No one knew of the first man. The oldest tradition stopped before it got back to him. From the beginning there had been an ancient and ramshackle cabin. Dying men had sworn to it, and to the mine the site of which it marked, clinching their testimony with nuggets that were unlike any known grade of gold in the Northland. But no living man had looted this treasure house, and the dead were dead; wherefore John Thornton and Pete and Hans, with Buck and half a dozen other dogs, faced into the East on an unknown trail to achieve where men and dogs as good as themselves had failed. They sledded seventy miles up the Yukon, swung to the left into the Stewart River, passed the Mayo and the McQuestion, and held on until the Stewart itself became a streamlet, threading the upstanding peaks which marked the backbone of the continent.

THE CALL OF THE WILD BY JACK LONDON
    Chapter 6
FOR THE LOVE OF A MAN
When John Thornton froze his feet in the previous December, his partners had made him comfortable and left him to get well, going on themselves up the river to get out a raft of saw-logs for Dawson. He was still limping slightly at the time he rescued Buck, but with the continued warm weather even the slight limp left him. And here, lying by the river bank through the long spring days, watching the running water, listening lazily to the songs of birds and the hum of nature, Buck slowly won back his strength. A rest comes very good after one has traveled three thousand miles, and it must be confessed that Buck waxed lazy as his wounds healed, his muscles swelled out, and the flesh came back to cover his bones. For that matter, they were all loafing,Buck, John Thornton, and Skeet and Nigwaiting for the raft to come that was to carry them down to Dawson. Skeet was a little Irish setter who early made friends with Buck, who, in a dying condition, was unable to resent her first advances. She had the doctor trait which some dogs possess; and as a mother cat washes her kittens, so she washed and cleansed Buck's wounds. Regularly, each morning after he had finished his breakfast, she performed her self-appointed task, till he came to look for her ministrations as much as he did for Thornton's. Nig, equally friendly though less demonstrative, was a huge black dog, half-bloodhound and half-deerhound, with eyes that laughed and a boundless good nature.
