Born at the castle of Montpensier in the old French province of Touraine at an unknown date; d. at Perugia 28 March, 1285. As priest he held a benefice at Rouen for a short time, whereupon he became canon and treasurer at the church of St. Martin in Tours. King Louis IX made him Chancellor of France in 1260 and Urban VI created him cardinal-priest with the titular church of St. Cecilia in December, 1262. Under Urban VI (1261-4) and his successor, Clement IV (1265-8), he was legate in France with powers to offer the Kingdom of Sicily to Charles of Anjou on certain conditions. Under Gregory X (1271-76) he was sent as legate to France a second time, with ample faculties to stem the abuses that had crept into the Church of France. In this capacity he presided over various reformatory synods, the most important of which was the one held at Bourges in September, 1276 (Mansi, Sacr. Conc. nova at ampl. Collectio XXIV, 165-180). Just six months after the death of Pope Nicholas III , Simon de Brie was unanimously elected pope at Viterbo on 22 February, 1281. His election was due to Charles of Anjou who was present at Viterbo and caused the two most influential cardinals of the Italian faction to be imprisoned before the

Short Strips: Better, Faster Rotary Cutting We all know that the lengthwise grain of the fabric is more stable than the crosswise grain. If you have any doubts, hold a piece of fabric with your hands 6" apart on the crosswise grain: bring your hands together, then quickly pull the fabric outward with a snap. Now, repeat on the lengthwise grain. Even with the selvedge removed, the lengthwise grain is significantly firmer. Furthermore, on any fabric, the printed pattern aligns perfectly with the lengthwise grain, but often does not follow the crosswise thread. So why are we taught to rotary cut crosswise strips? Let's think about this for a minute. Just because you learned rotary cutting with crosswise strips doesn't mean that you can't do better. Got it figured out yet? Congratulations! Lengthwise strips! The solution is so obvious, I don't know why we haven't been doing it all along. What could be easier than cutting 18" lengthwise strips from half yards and fat quarters? When I introduced this concept in Yes You Can!, I called these Short Strips. When I cut 9" strips from quarter yards, I called them Mini Strips. Of course, there's a downside to every dream, and something closer to the nightmare evolved alongside the safe thrills and romantic fantasies of cinema from the beginning. While some audiences were mesmerized by the novelty of early filmmaking, others bolted at the sight of a giant cinematic locomotive steaming fearlessly toward them. And this trend never really let up. In the '70s, stoic theater managers had to spread kitty litter in the aisles at screenings of The Exorcist to catch patrons' vomit as they stormed out of the theater. Hanns-Martin Schneidt (Conductor) Born: December 6, 1930 – Kitzingen am Main, Germany The German organist, conductor, pedagogue, and composer Hanns-Martin Schneidt made his first steps in music at the age of ten, as a member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig . He was taught piano and musical theory by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra . In addition to the Berlin Philharmonic Regensburger Domspatzen After the sudden death of Karl Richter in 1984, Schneidt took over as artistic director of the and has since been appointed as the honorary artistic director. In 1990 he visited Japan with the Berlin National Opera Theater, and at that occasion conducted Mozart's in the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Hall. This was followed by a 1994 Japan tour with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra to perform some Brahms symphonies, to great public acclaim.
