"Providing Excellence in Entertainment Since 1970" Martin Short Martin Short was born in Hamilton, Ontario, where he lived and worked until he eventually graduated from McMaster University with a degree in social work. His comedic talents were undeniable, and his prowess for slapstick supreme. It was no surprise when he chose a career in comedy. He started out small, with tiny roles on American television. He appeared in two series, "The Associates" and "I'm a Big Girl Now." His first big break came in 1982, in the form of a role on "SCTV: Network 90," the American version of the hit Canadian comedy series "SCTV." After a year he returned to his country of birth to appear in the original "SCTV." Martin Short won an Emmy, a Gemini, and the Earl Grey Award for his work in SCTV. The show brought him to the attention of the country and also to fellow Canuck-turned-television producer Lorne Michaels. Short was lured south of the border once more to appear in Michaels' "Saturday Night Live" where he stayed for only a year. The year was enough however for Americans to take notice. Martin Short was ready for bigger things, and bigger screens.

Jimmy Martin shouts all of his words at you. It is somewhat like interviewing Foghorn Leghorn. I called Jimmy in the early morning before he had a chance to get involved with anything... around the house... like chores.. I think Jimmy Martin is a REAL Bluegrass Personality of Colossal Proportions. He is from the old school and has no problem speaking his point of view. Although I felt that at any point Jimmy could have become angry with my questions, I was constantly aware that I was talking to the person who had created much of the hardest sounding Bluegrass ever written. This is a guy who makes no compromises. I have found something interesting happening. Some people, upon their first reading of this interview, reacted to things that they thought Jimmy had said, but had not. This is quite interesting. JM

He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Both his father and grandfather were ministers. His mother was a schoolteacher who taught him how to read before he went to school. Young Martin was an excellent student in school. After graduating from college and getting married, Dr. King became a minister and moved to Alabama. During the 1950's, Dr. King became active in the movement for civil rights and racial equality. He participated in the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott and many other peaceful demonstrations that protested the unfair treatment of African-Americans. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. Commemorating the life of a tremendously important leader, we celebrate Martin Luther King Day each year in January.

At the age of eighteen became an officer-cadet in the German Navy was assigned to the training vessel Hertha and eventually graduated to the battleship Thuringen By the time the First World War began in 1914, had reached the rank of Sub-Lieutenant. It was decided that the Thuringen was too old and was retired from active service. was now assigned to a mine-laying submarine (U73). This was followed by spells as an officer on the U39 and the U151. In 1918 took command of the UC67. Later that year he was responsible for laying mines off Marseilles. This operation resulted in sinking three enemy ships totalling 17,000 tons.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 at his family home in Atlanta, Georgia. King was an eloquent Baptist minister and leader of the civil-rights movement in America from the Mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. King promoted non-violent means to achieve civil-rights reform and was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. King's grandfather was a Baptist preacher. His father was pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church. King earned his own Bachelor of Divinity degree from Crozier Theological Seminary in 1951 and earned his Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University in 1955. While at seminary King became acquainted with Mohandas Gandhi 's philosophy of nonviolent social protest. On a trip to India in 1959 King met with followers of Gandhi. During these discussions he became more convinced than ever that nonviolent resistance was the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom. As a pastor of a Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama, King lead a Black bus boycott. He and ninety others were arrested and indicted under the provisions of a law making it illegal to conspire to obstruct the operation of a business. King and several others were found guilty, but appealed their case. As the bus boycott dragged on, King was gaining a national reputation. The ultimate sucess of the Montgomery bus boycott made King a national hero.

He spoke to 250,000 people in the March on Washington on August 28, 1963. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn. by James Earl Ray in 1968. On January 20, 1986 the United States celebrated King's birthday as a holiday for the first time.
