VERNON JAMES, king of the slavery-reparations tax scammers, persuaded 300 African-American taxpayers that they were eligible for a "black investment tax credit," and sought more than $8.4 million in bogus refunds on their behalf. In January of 2002 James was sentenced in Texas to six and a half years in prison. 3. RICHARD G. FLOWERS and five Oregon associates founded the Christian Patriot Association, a "warehouse bank" that served 900 tax evaders, who used aliases and false Social Security numbers to shield themselves from IRS scrutiny. The government lost $5 million. Flowers received five years in prison in January of 2003. 4. BARRIE L. KONICOV. In October of 2001 a federal judge in Michigan sentenced this hypnotist and self-help guru to seven-plus years for distributing tips for tax evasion in "De-Taxing America" seminars. He himself failed to pay taxes in 1994-1996. The IRS found that 138 of his customers cost the government $3.3 million. 5. BRADFORD G. BROWN. Brown, a doctor, diverted some of his earnings to secret accounts in 1994 and 1995, and failed to pay most of his taxes in later years. Last May he was sentenced in Georgia to forty-one months and ordered to repay $3.04 million.

BECOMING FINOLA is a strange but exhilarating character study with a lotof romance in the air. Readers will be surprised by the early twist as this is not Gina's story, but instead is a deep look at Sophie competing with a local legend by adopting much of Finola's pizzazz. Though a final crossing seems unnecessary, Gina and Liam on the surface carry this delightful tale, but it is the conceptual image of who was the real Finola that will intrigue the audience.

Any information should be sent to lshea@earthling.net My GGrandfather Daniel Shea/Oshea was born either June or Jan of 1829 in County Cork Ireland. He was at one time married to a Sarah Stark. The other things I know about Daniel are that he lived for a period of time in Fayette co. wva during 1880-1900 and was also married to a Pauline Vickers. In the two marriages I believe Daniel had several children, Joseph Bruce, William, Jack and Minnie also Nora, Thomas, Amanda , Edward and Mary. He came from county cork in 1850. Does this match any of your family. I am going to Ireland in May and very anxious to find out more about the town Daniel came from. I am also trying to find a Thomas D. Fall 2003Winter 2004 4/8/2004Sarah Looney was named the Outstanding Research Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Looney received her award during a reception at the Campus Club honoring the 2004 nominees and winners of the oustanding graduate student employee competition. Ms. Looney is the Bryna and Henry David Fellow and has been employed at the Ray Marshall Center since September 2002. She will receive a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs in August 2004. 2/2004 The Ray Marshall Center completed a set of reports documenting what leading-edge states have done to develop and implement non-federal measures of workforce performance for the National Governors Association's Center for Best Practices . Funding for this research was provided by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. Two reports from this project are now available.

Several synonyms exist; however, the term MCC is still most commonly used in view of the many similarities of the constituent tumor cell to the normal Merkel cell (MC) of the skin. In 1875, the German anatomist and pathologist Friedrich Sigmund Merkel described Tastzellen (touch cells) in the skin of the snouts of moles and pigs and proposed that they had a mechanoreceptor function. In human development, MCs appear as early as the 8th gestational week, possibly being derived from a primitive epidermal stem cell. MCs are present in high numbers on the lip, the hard palate, the palms, the finger pads, the proximal nail folds, and the dorsum part of the feet. MCs have a predilection for perifollicular areas in the skin; confirmed reports exist of MCs free in the dermis, but they are most easily identified in the basal layer of the epidermis. Normal MCs in skin have several proposed functions, including induction or stimulation of perifollicular or dermal nerve plexuses via a direct complex, stimulation of keratinocyte proliferation and maintenance of their differentiation, histogenesis of the nail, and release of various bioactive substances to the dermis.
