cheers Dave. I love the movie Jaws. When I saw this movie I was about 7 years old. When I saw Robert Shaw as Quint in the final when he was eaten by the shark I thought, this is the actor I love. Now I'm 18 years old and I'm crazy about this formidable and great actor. When I discovered on my school the website "a tribute to Robert Shaw" I thought this is great because I can read about his live and works. I was so impressed by the site that I wanted to mail the creators for a compliment for their work on it.
Now I've got a few questions:
    - is it possible to put some pictures oof Robert Shaw on the site
of his personal life, like high school pictures or normal pictures
of him (I mean, like, no movie pictures of him...)?
PICTURES HAVE BEEN ADDED AT THE PERSONAL PICS PAGE
    IN THE PICTURES AREA
    - are there any children (from the 10) still alive nowadays and
if so, do they have a function in the film business or as author? Ian Shaw, Robert Shaw's son is the only child of his that I know of that is in the entertainment business. He is currently playing the character of Hazel on Watership Down. There will be some personal pics added to this web page soon. I've just been so busy with other things that it's taking longer than neccessary. Sorry.

Robert Shaw (Conductor) Born: April 30, 1916 – Red Bluff, California, USA
Died: January 25, 1999 – New Haven, USA
In his long career, which spanned six decades and four cities, Shaw transformed choral conducting into an art and nearly single-handedly raised its standards to a new level. For more than half a century he set the standard of excellence for choral music, enjoying a status of patriarch of vocal musical interpretation in the USA.
Robert (Lawson) Shaw came from a clerical family. His father and grandfather were ministers. More importantly, perhaps, his mother sang in church choirs. In school, his serious interests were in philosophy, literature, and religion, but at Pomona College he did join the glee club. Then, in a chain of events right out of a Warner Brothers backstage musical, Shaw was asked to take over the choir for an ailing faculty leader the same year that Fred Waring happened to be making a film on the campus. Waring was impressed, asked him to go to New York to develop a glee club for him, and a star conductor was born.
His first major honor came as early as 1943 from the National Association of Composers and Conductors which cited him as "America's greatest choral conductor."

While in a used CD/LP store the other day, I came across an LP copy of a St. John Passion with Robert Shaw conducting, on RCA. It appears to be a late monaural recording, probably late 50's. Soloists include Blake Stern, Mack Harrell, Blanche Thebom.
I bought it (the price was right - $3.00). The only problem is that the booklet is missing. Can anyone supply a complete cast list? Some information is on labels on the LP's themselves, but it's pretty spotty.

SHAW, ROBERT In addition to ragtime elements such as syncopation, the "barrelhouse" piano style that Shaw played employs a heavy, hard-hitting touch with fast release. The style was named for the barrelhouses, where it was performed-sheds with walls lined with beer and whiskey, an open floor, and a piano on a raised platform in a corner of the room. The back of the barrelhouse was also used as a bawdy house. Shaw learned his distinct brand of piano playing from other musicians in the Fourth Ward, Houston, qv which was the center of black entertainment in the city. Clubs there hosted such important blues qv stylists as Sam (Lightnin') Hopkins. qv Shaw met Martha Landrum in Austin in 1936, and they married on December 22, 1939. They had no children. He had previously been married to a woman named Blanche, with whom he had a daughter, Verna Mae, and a son, William. For several decades after his marriage, Shaw ran his business in partnership with Martha. He was named the black businessman of the year in Austin in 1962. He also continued to play his music privately and for people who dropped by the Stop and Swat. In 1967, seven years before his retirement from the grocery business, he returned to public musical performance, this time with a younger generation of followers and growing fame. With the revival of his career, as one of the few remaining "virtuoso" barrelhouse blues pianists of his period, Shaw played often in Austin and at the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Who am I? Well, I'm just this guy.... I have a wonderful wife, Linn-Marie , and six great children: Stuart, Rebecca (both living with their mom in Chilliwack, BC), Mariann, Kristina ('Tina'), Elizabeth ('Beth'), and now Robin. I was born in Toronto, but I call Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories home, as I grew up there and lived there for almost 30 years. I'm now living in Surrey, British Columbia, a bit east of Vancouver. I'm also a bit of a political animal. Outside of work and politics, I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . I like to play music, especially trombone , although I'm also learning electric bass when I have some time. I referee hockey , enjoy snowmobiling in the winter and in-line skating in the summer, and also play a mean game of Jeopardy Here are some writing examples from my days as a columnist for the yellowknifer newspaper back in my hometown. A History of the Art Quilt Excerpted from the book
    The Art Quilt
The art quilt grew out of the great quilt revival that began in the 1960s and continues undiminished to the present day. Interest in handcrafts of all kinds was a strong element of the youth rebellion of the 1960s, as young people across the country sought alternatives to a society they perceived as spiritually bankrupt and morally corrupt. Back-to-the-landers sought meaning in the simpler lifestyles of early America, and taught themselves the traditional nineteenth-century arts that had been rejected by their parents and grandparents as hopelessly old-fashioned. They rediscovered and elevated neglected older craftspeople who still remembered how to make things by hand, and where the craftspeople were unavailable, taught themselves by direct study of surviving objects or long out-of-print how-to books. Interest in quilts and quiltmaking exploded in the years leading up to the Bicentennial, as women reclaimed a heritage that had been largely lost in the profound societal changes that followed World War II. Feminist historians began to reexamine the role of women in American society and art and pointed with great pride to the forgotten work of their foremothers. For the first time, quilts were read as social documents, embodying the history and values of their otherwise silent makers. Old quilts became collector's items, valued for their craftsmanship, design, and history, and thousands of women (and a few men) began to learn how to make quilts again. Many recalled a grandmother or other relative who had quilted, and also found in quiltmaking a way of discovering their personal and family roots as well as a collective past.
