GREAT MUSLIMS OF THE 20 TH CENTURY. No. 2. elhajj malik el-shabazz.By Sulayman S. Nyang, Ph.D. el-hajj malik el-shabazz, or Malcolm

GREAT MUSLIMS OF THE 20 TH CENTURY No. 2 El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz By Sulayman S. Nyang, Ph.D. In an attempt to understand the spiritual journey of Malik Shabazz, we must examine how he related to these ideas of Mr. Muhammad and the manner in which his life changed following his encounter with the orthodox Islam. This image of Malcolm X underwent a change only in the last two years of his life. In November 1993, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X made a statement which soon drove a wedge between him and Mr. Muhammad. He was reported in the US press as saying that the slaying of the US President was a clear case of "the chickens coming home to roost." To Malcolm X the US was a violent society and violence had for long been unleashed against Blacks. When the President himself could be gunned down in cold blood by an assassin you have nothing else to say in defense of America. After his break with Elijah Muhammad, he changed his name to Malik el-Shabazz. The Muslim honorific title El-Hajj would later be added to his name after his trip to Makkah to perform the Hajj. The new Malik Shabazz also chose the mainstream Sunni Islam as his religious creed. In doing so he became the vocal denouncer of his former master and his teachings. He confessed to several audiences around the US and abroad that his activities and speeches gave greater visibility to the heretical teaching of the NOI. He told his audiences that now that he has seen the light of true Islam, he would do everything to teach, elucidate and pass on the true teachings of Islam to African-American. This new mission of Mr. Shabazz endeared him to the small minority of African-American Sunnis who had previously seen him as an agent of a diabolical movement and a perpetrator of the greatest sin in Islam

from Message Online El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, or Malcolm X as he is better known among countless non-Muslim Americans, was a man of great intelligence and charisma.
His life story goes back to his days as a young man. The son of a Garveyite (a follower of Marcus Aurelius Garvey) who remembered throughout his life the brutal manner in which White racists killed his father.
Mr. Shabazz was born Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925, the fourth of eight children of Rev. Earl Little, a Baptist preacher from Georgia, and his wife, Louise, a West Indian woman who was light skinned enough to pass for White. Because of his background Malcolm Little imbibed much of the rage of suspicion of White America which his father felt before his murder.
The first and most fundamental "is the posing of Islam as the true religion of Black people and Christianity as the religion of their opposite and enemy, the White people."
The second "is the contention that Allah (God) is in reality a Black man and the Black man is God." The third is that Black people "are a Chosen People who are righteous by creation and righteous by nature." The fourth is that "the White man is the devil himself." The Fifth is that "separation on the social and political level from White was a divine imperative."

AL-HAJJ MALIK EL-SHABAZZ: MALCOM X Twenty-five years after his death, Malcolm X, Al-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, still towers above the statue of liberty. He refuses to die. Wherever injustice and oppression takes place, his smiling face and uncompromising message fill the atmosphere. Yes, they killed the body but not the spirit. When he was alive, Brother Shabazz was the most feared man in America. And, the most loved. The situation hasn't changed. For the deprived and the oppressed African-Americans, Brother Shabazz continues to be the hero, the inspiration that makes it possible for them to maintain their sanity and dignity in a vile society which can't stop despising them. We, as Muslims, are often angered to see Br. Shabazz identified as a Black Nationalist rather than a Muslim. While the anger is justified, we must understand that people generally emphasize the aspect of a leader's life which is in harmony with their own aspirations. While some African-Americans will continue to invoke the nationalist side of Br. Shabazz, it is for us to see that his Islamic personality is projected to the world!

Forums DawaCards Hajj as a shift against racism: Many Muslims who have been blessed to make Hajj often speak of how the journey is a life-changing experience. This is more the case for some than others. Malcolm X is one Muslim who saw the light of true Islam through his Hajj in April 1964. As a former member and speaker for the Nation of Islam, a black spiritual and nationalist movement, he believed that the white man was the devil and the black man superior. After leaving the Nation of Islam in March 1964, he made Hajj, which helped change his perspective on whites and racism completely. Here is an excerpt of a letter El Hajj Malik El Shabazz wrote about his Hajj experience. In it, he explains what it was during this blessed journey that made him so profoundly shift his perspective on race and racism: "There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and the non-white. You may be shocked by these words coming from me. But on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experienced, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my firm convictions, I have been always a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfolds it. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth.

- Nel 1930 Wali D. Farad Muhammad fondò nel ghetto nero di Detroit la “Lost and Found Nation of Islam in the Wilderness of America”, la nazione islamica perduta e ritrovata.

“…Uomini as Malcolm often are not born, neither in big number. The enemies of the human progress profit of its death; those people that of it are beaten for the human progress are weakened and damaged. But a serious hit cannot also destroy the struggle... The capitalistic system doesn't produce only racism, but also rebellious to the racism...” (F. LOVELL)
Malcolm X, the most beloved Afro-American and more feared, “the angriest black in America” - as him autodefiniva - murdered in 1965 to alone trentanoves years to have wanted “to change the world”, one can be considered some brightest revolutionary thinkers of the twentieth century a political leader of world stature and great charisma.
From small criminal of the ghetto, drug addict, one of the so many parasites of the rich American society, after being “fallen touching the fund of the society of the American white”, Malcolm Little became a critical spirit, a great orator, a political of international fame.
It is a lot of difficulty to say once and for all who Malcolm X was, an extremely complex character, that one continuous has lived and suffered transformation of his/her own vision of the world, an ascent toward a more and more mature political conscience. In all the phases of his life, from the hate to the reconciliation, every time he was convinced and sincere, but only in the last two years of life it was able to reason in autonomous way and to go out of the jails of the mind that cieco. had made him/it

Analysis of Major Characters Malcolm is the only major character in the autobiography. Though many characters play a role in the development of Malcolm’s beliefs and career, the autobiography does not explore these characters in depth. This lack of attention to other characters is not surprising, as an autobiography always focuses primarily on one person. Malcolm, however, changes frequently during his lifetime. The various names by which he goes—Malcolm Little, Detroit Red, Satan, Malcolm X, and El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz—correspond to the various phases of his life. Malcolm as Malcolm Little Malcolm Little passively endures the experiences that motivate his later obsession with racial politics in America. He encounters open racism when whites murder his father and subtle racism when white welfare agents institutionalize his mother. Though Malcolm endures this racism quietly, it leads to his later development of anti–white views. He ambitiously attempts to integrate himself into his predominantly white junior high school, but his white teachers’ and classmates’ racism thwarts his development. Attempting to flee the racist Midwest, Malcolm moves to Boston but finds racist dynamics exaggerated in the large coastal cities. These early frustrations at the hands of a society unwilling to accept his efforts to fit in build a separatist fervor in Malcolm.

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz had the potential to be far more influential than his incarnation as Malcolm X. In his new spiritual and activist identity, Hoover placed him near the top of the Cointelpro list to "Prevent a Black Messiah." His FBI and CIA surveillance intensified. He was followed everywhere by NOI, FBI and intelligence agents. His life and family were threatened by the NOI. To their credit, New York police offered him protection many times. But as declassified documents released via the Freedom of Information Act indicate, the FBI only watched and recorded. Despite torturous harassment, bodily assault and death threats, Malik El-Shabazz remained unbowed and conducted OAAU speeches at home and abroad. his last major speech in Detroit . Three days later his family was evicted from the house that was firebombed. By then, even El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz was feeling the heat and everyone around him knew it. On 20 February 1965, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz informed Alex Haley of his doubts that the NOI had the capabilities to conduct some of the threats and harassment he witnessed. When assassinated by NOI members in the afternoon of 21 February 1965, eyewitnesses testified that a squadron of policemen amazingly appeared at the Audubon Ballroom moments after shots rang out. Assailants were quickly apprehended that day and one more 5 days later. Coincidence? Or was it, as some allege, Hoover’s FBI exploiting anger by a small group of NOI members to bump off a "Black Messiah" and catch them immediately afterwards to discredit the entire NOI? Or to be fair to the FBI, is there another plausible theory of the truth? Investigate for yourself and decide.
