Ellison: J2EE is high-octane Java

Larry Ellison, CEO, Oracle SAN FRANCISCOOracle CEO Larry Ellison and BEA Systems Chief Executive Bill Coleman traded friendly jabs Thursday, but agreed competition among Java software makers is better than the Microsoft alternative. Coleman and Ellison spoke back-to-back at Sun Microsystems' JavaOne trade show here. They took turns trumpeting their Java products, needled each other, and together put down rival IBM's efforts in the lucrative market for e-business software. After Coleman's speech, Ellison took the stage and came out swinging, arguing that Oracle's Java application server runs faster and costs less than BEA's and IBM's products. BEA and IBM rank first and second, respectively, in the $1.6 billion market for application servers, software that handles e-commerce and other Web site transactions.

Kernel hang on MX server
From: Josh Logan
Date: Tue Apr 13 2004 - 19:08:30 EST
I have 2 IBM x305's which hang every few days in identical ways. Both are
running postfix (with amavis-new, spamassassin and clamav from
backports.org) and bind9. They are running debian stable.
The IDE controler is: ServerWorks CSB5 IDE
The Kernel is 2.6.4
I have tried 2.4 kernels with ext3. I have also tried 2.6.4 kernels with
ext3, jfs, and xfs, but all three FS show the same errors.
Currently trying ext2 on one of the machines.
The systems is running software raid1 between both hard drives. /dev/hda1 and /dev/hdc1 make up md0 which is mount on / /dev/hda3 and /dev/hdc3 make up md1 which used LVM to make /usr /home /var and /var/spool/postfix I have also tried mount bind /postfix /var/spool/postfix to take LVM out of the picture. That did not help. I have not tried to break the mirror

[squid-users] GAIM proxy server forbids port 80 tunnelling
From josh@dont-contact.us
Date : Tue, 13 Apr 2004 13:20:43 -0400
I am setting up computers for the library and would like for the
various message services to be usable at my discretion controlled by
squid. I installed GAIM as a good option. My first test was to try to
connect to AIM. As far as I know I'm not blocking anything from my
test machine.
From GAIM the message is the date with "Access denied proxy server
forbids port 80 tunnelling"
I do use SquidGuard, but I'm testing from a machine that currently has
no restrictions on aol.com. I also am using authentication, but again it is not required from the test machine. I get a message from GAIM saying I've been disconnected. My log looks like this: 1081876647.595 4 192.168.1.6 TCP_DENIED/403 1394 CONNECT login.oscar.aol.com:5190 - NONE/- text/html [11:57:08:war-admiral:~]sudo /usr/local/sbin/squid -v Squid Cache: Version 2.5.STABLE4-20031109 configure options:

Hi,
The Roaring Penguin server implementation on Linux 2.4.1 is very stable
and fast. It's also trivial to install. I've had no problems with it
at all. Better still, you get the source code which is cleanly written
and well documented.

Just a note on compiling the 3.0b1 server for Cu-SeeMe on a BSDI/386 v1.1
system. (This may have changed on the b3 version, unknown.)
All references to "malloc.h" must be changed to "stdlib.h" to compile
correctly. Any easy way to do that is to run the makefile, and to correct
the errors as they pop up.
