I conigli morti perdono, Liam Neeson muore e la banda deve lasciare per sempre la piccola zona di New York in cui vivono per lasciare il comando al solo Macellaio. Anni dopo il figlio di Liam Neeson torna nel quartiere per fare vendetta. Sottotono e fuori parte, invece DiCaprio, troppo "ragazzino" per interpretare la parte del vendicatore. Un'occasione sprecata. Peccato.

Home Gangs of New York di Martin Scorsese Un caotico mezzo capolavoro Un grande Daniel Day Lewis Il teatro, il mito, le radici di una nazione Raffaella Ponzo racconta il set di Scorsese "Storia d'amore e de cortelli" 3 anni di preparazione invece che 1 significano sempre qualcosa...di solito che il film non è quel che hai pensato...questo è uno dei casi più eclatanti. Filmone per eccezione, grandi scenografie e migliaia di comparse, molto movimento e buon ritmo, molti carrelli e panoramiche, costumi grandiosi, ricostruzione storica un po' disneyana... Sullo sfondo storico, molto sfondo del periodo della nascita di New York, si affrontano le due gang dominanti, un cattivo (Lewis) uccide il buono, il buono ha un figlio piccolo (Di Caprio) che medita vendetta. Il bambino cresce ed in una rinnovata New York in cui sbarcano orde di Irlandesi alla ricerca di un posto in cui vivere, in cui il potere politico manipola tutto e corrompe qualsiasi cosa, in cui il caos è volutamente reso tale, il bimbo cresciuto, diciamo "bimbone" conosce il "macellaio" il cattivo che ha ucciso il padre che non sa' nulla della sua provenienza. Si affeziona al ragazzotto (un po' come accade nell'"Isola del tesoro" di Stevenson) ma il ragazzotto -che medita vendetta- viene tradito dal suo migliore amico per via di una donna ( Cameron Diaz)... da quì il seguito immaginabile.. Non ci è interessato questo filmone, che ci è parso "pompato" e ammiccante soprattutto nella scena dei disordini civili a New York, messi forse per dare una vena politica al film e "spiazzare" con questo "baroccamento" la povertà della storia e dell'interpretazione.
