Improved Estimates of Winter Precipitation

ABSTRACT:
Reflectivity-based estimates of snowfall rate based on climatological Z-S relationships can differ from observed rates by an order of magnitude due to the wide variation of snow density as a result of the various snow crystal types, degree of riming, and degree of aggregation. Thus, real-time calibrations for reflectivity and snowfall rate are needed. In order to do this, however, accurate snowgauges are required that report in real-time.

Bill Pryor's Shocking Comments
During Roy Moore's "Trial" By Chuck Baldwin The Covenant News ~ November 18 2003
Following up on my last column , it is extremely important that every American citizen read the exchange between Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor and Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore during Moore's trial. Since The Court of the Judiciary did not allow television cameras or recording devices in the courtroom, it is up to people like me to get the word out to the American people as to what Pryor said. The examination of Chief Justice Moore by Bill Pryor is shocking, to say the least. Here is a verbatim exchange between the two men taken from the official court transcript:
Pryor: Mr. Chief Justice? And your understanding is that the Federal court ordered that you could not acknowledge God; isn't that right?
Moore: Yes.
Pryor: And if you resume your duties as Chief Justice after this proceeding, you will continue to acknowledge God as you have testified that you would today -
Moore: That's right.

Profile of Roy Gaines
Roy Gaines was born August 12, 1937 in Waskom, Texas. His family moved to Houston when he was six. He is the brother of Grady Gaines, once saxophone player in Little Richard's backup band The Upsetters. At an early age Gaines first began playing piano in the style of Nat King Cole. He became friendly with other local musicians such as Clarence Hollimon and Johnny Copeland. In his teens he switched to the guitar and became an admirer of T-Bone Walker , another Texan. Roy soon began playing clubs throughout the Houston area. He met his hero in 1951, and even backed T-Bone on stage when he was fourteen. By the seventies Gaines was again in demand, making many public appearances either solo or with the Crusaders (1978). He continued as session musician working with artists like Aretha Franlin, Della Reese, the Supremes. He was featured on Stevie Wonder's landmark album album "My Cherie Amour", Milt Buckner's "Green Onions" (1975) and Albert King's "Albert" (1976). He also continued to work with T-Bone Walker until Walker's death in 1975. Roy was part of Harry Belafonte's Las Vegas show in 1976. He toured Central and South America with the Supremes in 1976, and the U.S. with Diana Ross in 1977. When Gaines returned to L.A. he was once more in constant demand. This included movie and television work with Quincy Jones. Roy wrote "Don't Make Me No Never Mind" for the movie "The Color Purple" (1985), played on the session, and had a cameo role in the film itself. But it wasn't until 1981 that he recorded solo again. Gaines signed with Red Lightin' Record and, in 1982, released "Gainelining" a very fine and critically acclaimed album. No other albums were released in the 80's. But the next decade included four - "Lucille Work fo Me" (1996), "

Stay over for “A Day at the Ranch” on Monday, March 8, at Roy’s former Double R Bar Horse Ranch in nearby Oro Grande, CA. Great fun for all! The festival will provide a thrilling opportunity for fans to come together and see Roy and Trigger gallop across the big screen, fighting for truth and justice in the Old West, as they did in their heyday in the 40’s and 50’s, when Roy was the number one ranked cowboy star at the box office for more than ten straight years! Even though Roy’s films have been shown on television from time to time, it is rare indeed to see them on a large theater screen as they were originally intended to be seen. Roy and Trigger, along with Dale, lovable sidekick Gabby Hayes, Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers, formed one of the greatest and most successful movie teams of all time!

ROY MARKOWITZ info
Roy Markowitz (drums) Prolific drummer, he appears as sessionmen in many albums, as we're going to read. I haven't been so lucky at finding info about his bands. He was born in New York. First band I've been able to trace with him was The Catskills, a big band. This was their lineup at the end of 1965:
    Danny Riccardi (vocals)
    Red Kaplan (bass)
    David Heimer (keyboards)
    Eddie Ashman (violin)
    Fred Nittel (sax)
    Bob Steen (sax)
    Milt Werner (sax)
    Lee Brody (sax)
    Abe Cooper (trumpet)
    Chuck SanFilipo (trumpet)
Barry Sachais (trombone) Roy Markowitz (drums)
Next thing I know is when he joined Janis Joplin in her new group, Kozmic Blues Band, in December 1968:
Janis Joplin (vocals) Sam Andrew (guitar, vocals) Brad Campbell (bass) Bill King (keyboards) Terry Clements (sax) Marcus Doubleday (trumpet) Roy Markowitz (drums)
In January 1969, Bill King left, being replaced by a great player, Richard Kermode:
Janis Joplin (vocals) Sam Andrew (guitar, vocals) Brad Campbell (bass) Richard Kermode (keyboards) Terry Clements (sax) Marcus Doubleday (trumpet) Roy Markowitz (drums)
Marcus Doubleday is replaced by Terry Hensley before February:
Janis Joplin (vocals) Sam Andrew (guitar, vocals)

This page is to showcase the poetry/writings/or memories of Pleiku Roy, a Brother. Roy is unknown to me, except over the net and through our communications by E-mail. He was stationed at Pleiku, South Vietnam, and the Artillery Battery there often fired support for my unit. I have a bond with Roy and this is my way of showing my gratitude. His poetry on this page describe his perspectives of the Lessons of R.V.N. Dave/11bravovet Army R.V.N. 3 20, 1998 "My Gift to Roy"
My Wall
Small in the distance but it was clearly in sight,
As I walked down the path in the cold and the rain.
My body shivered, the cold, and the memories,
As soon we came to The Wall,
The Memorial, so stark, so plain. Just sheets of granite with the names of people.
People I didn't know, yet I knew them all too well.
I reached and touched,
Just laid my hand on the Wall.
And I cried! Why am I here?
Where is my name? What brought me home,
The answer is with God and luck A question for all time. Some came home...Some did not.
.....Unfinished to Roy.....
"The Golden Age of InnocenceOnce lived and then Lost Forever"
I grew up in the Golden fifties, everything back then was new.

Snap Crackle Pop Notes for January 1st, 2003
Hour One Artie Shaw - Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise (from the Bluebird 78) We started with a batch of morning songs, beginning with the great Artie Shaw and his Orchestra from an original Bluebird 78. Jimmie Rodgers - Mule Skinner Blues (Blue Yodel #8) (from the RCA Victor album, ‘The Best Of The Legendary Jimmie Rodgers’) …and one of Jimmie’s classics. “..good mornin’, Captain…” Charles Brown - Risin' Sun (from the Aladdin 78) Great Charles Brown morning tune. 78 courtesy of Nelson Becker of Nelson, B.C. Bob Dylan - Pledging My Time (from the Columbia album ‘Blonde On Blonde’) Blonde on Blonde is a desert island classic for me. The work is timeless. I can never hear this album too many times. Diamond Joe White - Maybe In The Morning (from the Stony Plain 45) see label scan below. Joe’s tune is from a Stony Plain 45. As I recall, he wrote it for his daughter, Joline. Next, Paul Grant brought in a batch of morning songs. Kris Purdy – Morning Show Blues (from the CBC broadcast recording LP ‘Coast To Coast III’) CBC broadcaster, Kris Purdy, wrote this one about her Morning Show ‘fill in’ experiences. Recorded in Winnipeg, 1987. Produced by Ross Porter.
