"I came up (in TV) at a time when having an African-American weatherman was more than a novelty; it was unheard of," said Roker, who will be keynote speaker at the second annual scholarship awards presented by the San Diego Association of Black Journalists. The gathering is at 6 p.m. at the Mission Valley Marriott. Roker's day will begin when he delivers his "Today" weather prognostications from the downtown San Diego studios of NBC-owned KNSD/Channel 39. The awards dinner is co-sponsored by The San Diego Union-Tribune and KNSD.
