The Roy Rogers - Dale Evans Museum - Branson, MO.
Howdy Friends!
"Welcome to The Roy Rogers - Dale Evans Museum. We've had a lifetime of Happy Trails full of love, laughter, and sometimes sorrow. Everything we've ever done is right here for everyone to see. For nearly as long as I can remember, I thought about having a museum. I've always liked to save things. No matter what came my way, whether it was a letter from a boy or girl movie fan or from a President, or a nice shotgun or an old-time telephone, I stuck it in the basement, or the garage, or in drawers at home. Dale would say, "Honey, when are you going to empty those drawers?" I'd put everything in a box and call the van & storage company to come pick it up and keep it for me." As you walk past all the glass cases and displays in the Museum you will see the old battered car that took my family out of Ohio to the promised land of California. There's Pat Brady's Jeep Nellybelle, and pictures of Gabby Hayes when he was a serious young actor. There's Dale wearing fancy hats for her first photo session, and Roy in overalls standing next to his first horse, Babe. You'll become a part of Roy and Dale's memories of the good times and the bad times and the hard times.

It appears to have been lost in cyberspace after Roy's death but is too interesting to allow it to go missing. If re-publishing this excellent article is illegal or copywritten please let me know. Cedar Lodge Web master. Roy Rogers, 33 Degree, Legendary King of the Cowboys. By W. Bob Turner, Ph.D., 32 deg. Shennan Oaks, California. Brother Roy is one of the best known and most beloved persons in the rich heritage of Western entertainment and culture.
Illustrious Brother Roy Rogers, 33, was a super hero to millions of children and adults around the globe for over fifty years. Roy always personified the good guy who triumphed over evil. He was the same person off-screen as he was on-screen. He always said it was easy to act his parts because he was only playing himself, "I am, what I am." Born Leonard Franklin Slye on November 5, 1911, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he moved with his family to California in 1930. After several jobs, he decided to try his luck as a western singer. He performed with several groups, and in 1933 formed the Pioneer Trio that became the legendary Sons of the Pioneers in 1934. In their first recording session for Decca Records, they recorded 'Tumbling Tumbleweeds" which became their trademark theme song. Republic Pictures signed Len Slye to a movie contract in 1937 for the sum of $75 a week. He changed his name to Roy Rogers in 1938 and went on to make more than 100 films, 87 for Republic.

MY TRIBUTE TO
ROY ROGERS
by Gene Minix Who is Roy Rogers?,
I heard my little grandson say
As an old western came on the TV one day.
Well, son, I said, hop right up here on my knee.
Let me tell you about that cowboy that you see.
When I was a little boy some years ago,
My friends and I could hardly wait to go down to the picture show.
With a quarter we could get in and buy some popcorn too. Then we'd sit down and watch the movie through. Oh, we'd have on our cowboy hats and our six-shooters tied down And we'd be right there with Roy taking care of the town. He always stood for justice and things that were good. And he only spoke words that a true gentleman should. He always respected the ladies and stood for the right And you never saw Roy start a fight. Yet, when he had to, he never backed down And many an outlaw found themselves on the ground. He taught us young'uns a lot of good, you see, And Roy will always be very special to me. Yes, son, that's a real hero there on the TV

Roy Rogers
b. Leonard Franklin Slye, Cincinnati, Ohio, November 5, 1911; d. July 6, 1998.
Elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame 1988 (elected 1980 as member of the Original Sons of the Pioneers)
Roy Rogers earned the title King of the Cowboys for his enormous popularity in films, on television and radio, and in personal appearances. But before starring in his first film, Rogers earned his eventual place in the Country Music Hall of Fame by founding the Sons of the Pioneers.
Leonard Slye (Rogers’s given name) was raised on a farm in Duck Run, Ohio. In June 1930 the Slye family visited one of Roy’s sisters in California. The lure of warm weather and the hope of better job prospects led Rogers and his family to move to Los Angeles. Still, the Depression made jobs hard to find. Rogers drove a gravel truck and then worked as a fruit picker in the same central California farm camps John Steinbeck wrote about in The Grapes of Wrath.
Rogers had grown up playing mandolin and calling square dances. When his sister encouraged him to appear on a local radio program that featured amateurs, he reluctantly gave it a try. A few days later he was asked to join a country music band called the Rocky Mountaineers, as a singer and guitarist. Before long he convinced them to add another vocalist so they could harmonize together. Bob Nolan was hired, and when he left the group, Tim Spencer replaced him. Over the course of the next two years, Rogers sang with a variety of country music groups, each of which was less successful than the one before. Finally, late in the summer of 1933, he decided to give it one more try by forming a group consisting of himself, Bob Nolan, and Tim Spencer. The Pioneer Trio, as they originally called themselves, worked on their harmonies while Nolan and Spencer began writing the songs that would become the heart of their repertoire.

39. Roy Rogers And Dale Evans Museum. Roadside America
A review of the couple's museum in Victorville, California.
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/CAVICroyrogers.html
Victorville, California
R oy Rogers and Dale Evans, America's Most Famous Cowboy couple, have passed on. Dale died on February 8, 2001, at age 88; Roy went in 1998. Dale has joined Roy in the family plot in a Victorville cemetery. With the departure of the "Queen of the Cowgirls," we wonder about the future of their fabulous self-celebrating museum. The Roy Rogers Museum is a large monument to Roy and his wife. The outside is shaped like an old cavalry fort, with a- 24-foot statue of Trigger on his hind legs guarding the entrance. In the lobby, a carved wooden sign reads "This is our life - Roy and Dale." And what a life! Dale married Roy in 1947, after the death of his first wife. He proposed to her on horseback. They rode their equally famous horses, Trigger and Buttermilk, in 27 films. Judging from the wholesome and squeaky clean exhibits of the museum, Roy and Dale were the kind of people you would have liked as neighbors. There are wedding pictures, hunting and fishing trophies, Roy's favorite T-Bird car, and his favorite powerboat. The best exhibit is that of Roy's bowling trophies (he rolled for the museum team), including his clear acrylic bowling ball with Trigger's photo in the center. Along with their famous saddles, there are the most popular exhibits: the mounted (not stuffed!) carcasses of Trigger, Buttermilk, and dog Bullet.
