Website ... Meet the Women's Murder Club Before becoming one of the world's top-selling novelists, James Patterson's ambition in life was to become a professional basketball player; unfortunately, he wasn't tall or fast enough. Ironically, Patterson did not like to read in high school. However, in his late teens, he started to read everything he could get his hands on. As a young copywriter with an advertising agency, Patterson's interest in writing grew enormously. In fact, The Day of the Jackal and The Exorcist were the two books that inspired him to write. In 2001 Patterson told the Chicago Tribune , "I had just decided I didn't have Ulysses in me, but I might have a Day of the Jackal Patterson's fans are certainly grateful for this decision, because he has since written more than 20 novels and has made numerous appearances on bestseller lists. His novels include his popular series featuring forensic psychologist/detective Alex Cross and the "Women's Murder Club" series, which is full of breathtaking drama and shocking twists. His latest effort, The Lake House , is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 bestselling When the Wind Blows To celebrate the release of The Lake House , AuthorsOnTheWeb has chosen James Patterson as our Author of the Month. Readers can learn more about Patterson's life and works through trivia questions, fast facts and biographical information, as well as links to his website, bibliography, past interviews, and book reviews.

TORORO, Uganda , Dec. 5 A high-level delegation led by Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson got a close-up look today at how life-saving high-tech pharmaceuticals get delivered to Ugandans inflicted with the HIV virus in remote and primitive regions of this poverty-stricken country, which has become one of the most successful in Africa at fighting AIDS. Groups of four or five members of the delegation including U.S. government officials, public-health leaders and corporate and NGO executives (and a few members of the press, including me) traveled in four-wheel-drive vehicles behind Ugandan health workers on Suzuki motorbikes to villages around 10 miles from this eastern Uganda city, which itself is three hours by bus from the capital, Kampala. Each of the health workers delivers anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs to HIV-infected Ugandans, most of them poor farmers living in mud huts with thatched roofs. The health workers each drop off a week's supply of the drugs and interview the patients to determine their condition and report back to medical teams at a provincial hospital.

He attended Houston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas and received a B.S. in Chemistry (1953). He received a Masters in Public Administration from California State University, Hayward, CA, in 1975. Mr. Harris worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in the heavy isotope production division. He was appointed Head of the Engineering and Technical Services Division of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in 1977, where he is still active in nuclear chemistry research. In the course of several years Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory produced a number of new elements by bombarding atomic targets in an accelerator. The research team purified and prepared target material and, after exposing the target to a bombardment stream for hundreds of hours with carbon atoms, the research team detected the new element 104 for just a few seconds in 1969. Element 105 was produced in 1970 when the same target was bombarded with nitrogen. The new element 104 was named Rutherfordium and element 105 was named Hahnium , in honor of two atomic pioneers, Ernest Rutherford and George Hahn.

Gundam SEED: Phase 07
My Bloody Valentine. This episode explained a lot of the back story as to the hatred between the PLANT ZAFT and the Earth Alliance. Basically the Earth Alliance destroyed a PLANT colony , killing over 200,000 coordinators. Rau and Athrun testify before the PLANT supreme council about the destruction of the neutral Heliopolis colony, ultimately laying the blame on its destruction on the Federation. The council then debates what the best course of action is. While this meeting is taking place the Archangel goes to steal supplies from the debris zone that once was the destroyed colony. The display quickly cuts between three scenes: the meeting of the PLANT supreme council, the Archangel crew getting supplies and a flashback to the destruction of Bloody Valentine. The episode ends with Kira destroying a ZAFT mobile suit in what I believe to be his first taking of life. gundam Link No Comments No Trackbacks

Still here? Okay.
Some excerpts

"Any writers or musicians that you think would do a good job serving in office?"
Kerry said:
Sure there are. Of course there are people, absolutely. I mean, I'll tell you. Carole King, who has been out campaigning for me hard in Iowa, New Hampshire and various places, is as knowledgeable about the issues as anybody I have ever seen.
Another question:
"Well, we know that you were into rock and roll when you were in high school, and we know that you play the guitar now. Are there any trends out there in music, or even in popular culture in general, that have piqued your interest?"
Kerry said: Well,no. His actual response: Oh sure. I follow and I'm interested. I don't always like, but I'm interested. I mean, I never was into heavy metal. I didn't really like it. I'm fascinated by rap and by hip-hop. I think there's a lot of poetry in it. There's a lot of anger, a lot of social energy in it. And I think you'd better listen to it pretty carefully, 'cause it's important. I still find the musicians of our generation are appreciated and extraordinarily relevant to most of the young people I talk to today. When I go to a Bruce Springsteen concert or when I did go to the Grateful Dead, when Jerry Garcia was still alive, or when I'd go to the Rolling Stones, for instance, there's a lot of people there of all generations. And I think that young people are still growing up appreciating an awful lot of the music that came out of our generation, '60s and '70s.

James Bulger James Bulger March 16 February 12 ) was a toddler who was abducted and murdered by two ten year-old boys, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson , on Merseyside , in the United Kingdom . The murder of a child by two other children caused an immense public outpouring of shock, outrage and grief, particularly in Liverpool and surrounding towns. At the boys' trial in November 1993 they received a minimum term of eight years detention, which was increased to ten years on appeal . Over 300,000 people signed a petition organised by a national newspaper which demanded that the British Home Secretary Michael Howard impose a lengthier sentence. Reacting to this public outcry , Howard duly increased their sentences to a minimum of fifteen years, though this was later reversed as unlawful. Thompson and Venables were released on a life licence in June 2001 after serving eight years of their ten year sentence (reduced for good behaviour), when a parole hearing concluded that public safety would not be threatened by their rehabilitation into society. As William James said . . . "The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook." "A man's vision is the great fact about him." "Acquaintance with the details of fact is always reckoned, along with their reduction to system, as an indispensable mark of mental greatness." "My experience is what I agree to attend to." "I personally gave up the Absolute . . . I fully believe in taking moral holidays." "What we say about reality depends on the perspective into which we throw it. The that of it is its own; but the what depends on the which; and the which depends on us." "The greatest enemy of any one of our truths may be the rest of our truths." "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." "We have the right to believe at our own risk any hypothesis that is live enough to tempt our will." "Between what a man calls 'me' and what he simply calls 'mine' the line is difficult to draw." "He who refuses to embrace a unique opportunity loses the prize as surely as if he had tried and failed." "Whereever a process of life communicates an eagerness to him who lives it, there the life becomes genuinely significant."

By taking its time to develop characters and situations, Hulk does what so many action/adventure movies fail to do - allow us to really feel for the protagonists. Director Ang Lee, fresh off his success from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has re-imagined The Hulk as a tragic figure trapped by fate and the hubris of others into showing the inner beast whenever rage overwhelms him. In truth, the film has a greater synergy with classic monster movies like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
