Eddie MURPHY Biographie: Né à Brooklyn (New York) le 2 avril 1961, Eddie Murphy (Edward Regan Murphy à l'état civil) démontre dès sa plus tendre enfance ses talents de comique et d'imitateur. I'd not seen an Eddie Murphy movie in some time, having determined not to contribute to the success of anyone who earned a living destroying others. On stage, Mr. Murphy demeaned others and encouraged the most vile use of language imaginable. He made the comedy club entertainment format popular as he used his audience as props in his routine by drawing attention to their oddities and imperfections. Audiences roared their approval, even playing along when his sharp wit was directed at them. On screen, Eddie Murphy's persona represented a stereotype of Black Americans carefully developed for the enjoyment of white audiences. As White audiences enjoyed themselves at our expense, courtesy of Mr. Murphy, they learned the commercial version of Black culture, affirmed by Black would be songsters laboring in the sweat mines of rape music. The massive marketing and proliferation of such filth not only kept white audiences ignorant of real Black culture, but began to serve as indoctrination for Black youth struggling to find themselves. Made by Paramount pictures it starring the seemingly unstoppable Eddie Murphy, who had just made a pile of money for the studio with "48 Hours" and " Beverly Hills Cop Obviously expensively made, the movie seems to have all the right ingredients for a big hit but fails to satisfy and although moderately successful was, I'm sure, a bit of a financial disappointment for the studio, who were hoping for another Murphy 'cash cow' to fill the coffers with lots of $$$. And that's probably the root of the problem. Despite a reasonable story, script and good special effects, the movie just 'feels' a little clinical. Murphy has a bunch of funny set pieces which he clearly enjoys and we enjoy... but in between seems a little unispired somehow. Maybe the predictability of the story has a lot to do with it. Another possibility is that the movie was originally intended to be a more serious action piece, but was hastily rewritten to provide Murphy with the scope to do what he does best, with the end result an unsuccessful mixture of the two... in any case the plot unwinds quite predictably -there are very few suprises to be had here folks...

Edward Regan Murphy was born in the Bushwick projects of Brooklyn, New York, on the 3rd of April, 1961. His father was a policeman. His mother, Lillian, was a telephone operator. Sadly, they divorced when Eddie was 3 and, even more sadly, his father was killed by a new girlfriend when the boy was just 8. Living with Lillian and his brother Charles Q Murphy (now an actor and screenwriter), Eddie stayed in Brooklyn till he was ten. Then Lillian, along with her new husband Vernon Lynch (a former boxer then employed as a foreman at Breyers Ice Cream plant)) took the boys, plus Lynch's son (also named Vernon), to Roosevelt, Long Island. This was a predominantly white, middle-class area thats black population increased sharply throughout the Sixties and Seventies. It also spawned Howard Stern, Julius Erving and Public Enemy rapper Chuck D.
