67. Operation Mirror Image
The similarities of Sean Connery and roger moore.
http://www.hmss.com/articles/mirror.htm
O ne of the purposes of "Her Majesty's Secret Servant" is to make both the casual and fanatical fans consider their feelings about the cold secret agent with the "cruel mouth." When looking at the series of films produced by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and EON Productions, few people fail to be opinionated. There are two very distinct periods in the EON series which are the pervading viewpoints regarding James Bond. Sean Connery's five consecutive films that defined the characterization, plus two more appearances later on, set the performance standard and Roger Moore's seven consecutive appearances expanded the success past what anyone would have thought possible. However, most fans are quite quick to name one of those principals as clearly ahead of the other. T o that suggestion I present my first article for HMSS with a provocative theorem: with but one outstanding exception, the reigns of Roger Moore and Sean Connery were very similar, both in style and direction. That one exception is that Sean Connery declined in the role over time where Roger Moore greatly improved. To prove this assertion I will compare the lead actors' films one at a time. In trying to be accurate, there is but one difficulty, namely that Sean Connery did seven films in three increments. The sixth Bond film starring George Lazenby, "On Her Majesty 's Secret Service," is bordered by Connery films, and the non-EON production of "Never Say Never Again" came along after a twelve year absence. I have decided to compare Connery and Moore on a strict mano a mano basis, though fair parallels could be done with the first seven EON films versus the next. And so, let's take a look.

70. Movie Reviews By Edwin Jahiel
Professor of cinema studies considers the controversial Michael moore film. Rated 4/4.
http://www.prairienet.org/ejahiel/rogerand.htm
ROGER AND ME (1989) **** . Written, produced and directed by Michael Moore. A Warners release. 83 minutes. Rated R (occasional strong language). Roger is General Motors chairman Roger Smith. "Me" is Michael Moore from Flint, Michigan, a.ka. "Buick City." In the 1980's , plant closings in Flint in favor of new openings of Mexican factories with cheaper undo the social and economic fabric of the city. The proletarian part of Flint becomes a disaster area. Journalist Moore, the only one in a long family line not to become a GM worker, wants answers for this catastrophe and tries to interview Roger Smith. In vain. The film's guiding thread is Moore's stalking of the Chairman from 1987 to 1989. Around this, Moore weaves his autobiography, a portrait of Flint through the years, descriptions of the blight, cases of duress and evictions (one of which is suspended for three days until the cameras go away), scenes of celebrities who try to uplift spirits with shows or idiotic pronouncements . As the poor get poorer, the rich keep their wealth and are shockingly insensitive to the tragedy of others. As Flint becomes like a "favella" in Rio and crime rises, the haves give garden-parties with "living statues" or costume balls in the new jail. In the ancient times of Rome's decadence, the people were given little bread and lots of circus games. Now Pat Boone returns to Flint and mouths absurdities. Tacky Bob Eubanks does The Newlywed Game. An inept Miss Michigan thinks only of becoming Miss America (she did.) . Anita Bryant inanely counsels : "hang in there."

Mr. Chairman and members of the Subcommittee,. My name is roger moore. I am the bill. Thank you for your consideration. roger moore.

ROGER MOORE ROGER MOORE, P.C. P.O. Box 90664 Austin, Texas 78709-0664 Telephone: (512) 236-1456 Fax: (512) 236-1275 Testimony to be Presented before the House Subcommittee on the Constitution March 30, 2000 Mr. Chairman and members of the Subcommittee, My name is Roger Moore. I am a private attorney in Austin, Texas, and I appear before the Subcommittee today in opposition to the passage of H.R. 2964. I have attached to these remarks a copy of my curriculum vitae. During the past two years neither I nor any entity I represent at this hearing has been the recipient of any federal grant, contract or subcontract. Since 1988 a major part of my law practice has been litigation arising under state and federal civil rights statutes, including litigation under 42 U.S.C. §1983. My opposition to H.R. 2964 primarily concerns what I view as its unwarranted expansion of that statute and its singling out of one private industry for that expansion. In its early years, most of the cases brought under § 1983 were cases involving violations of civil rights by southern officials. However, the statute was never limited to wrongs committed in southern states, and it was not limited to violation of civil rights. Rather, it has always been a very broad remedial statute. In the modern era, § 1983 has become the primary vehicle for the enforcement of a wide range of federally protected rights. Sec. 1983, however, is not a remedy that is available whenever a person’s federally protected rights have been violated. Court cases have developed an extensive body of law dealing with two very important limitations upon the remedy. First, the defendant must have been acting under color of state law at the time that he violated the plaintiff’s federally protected right. Second, a person cannot be held liable under § 1983 on a

77. Roger & Me (1989)
A regular joe who is also a film lover revisits Michael moore's first movie.

var cm_role = "live" var cm_host = "angelfire.lycos.com" var cm_taxid = "/memberembedded"
After seeing Michael Moore's most recent film, The Big One , I just had to revisit the film that got it all started, 1989's . When I first saw it back around 1991, it made me completely paranoid of all corporations and their "profit-above-all" ways. It was, as Kathleen Carroll of the New York Daily News put it so eloquently, "...the perfect film at the perfect time". It was released at the end of the devastating "Reagan-omics" era, a time when our economy was at it's lowest point. Times have changed now in 1998, but the corporations stay the same, still doing everything to earn the all-important dollar, even in a time of great wealth, and Moore expresses this notion in The Big One almost as well as he captured the plight of downsizing in 1989. Moore begins Roger and Me by telling about himself and his history in Flint. He's not some outsider documenting this catastrophe for his own good, he's one of these people, doing this to raise awareness for the downsized people of Flint, Michigan. The funniest moments are watching Moore try to track down Roger Smith, the chairman of General Motors, who shut down the plants in Flint to move them to Mexico, where the labor is infinitely cheaper. He enters numerous buildings looking for Smith, only to be thrown out moments later by people too afraid to talk to him. It is the same everywhere he goes: asking about Roger Smith and his whereabouts, always ending with the line, "You're going to have to leave. This is a private building."

Bowling For Columbine
"Bowling for Columbine" is an alternately humourous and horrifying film about the United States. It is a film about the state of the Union, about the violent soul of America. Why do 11,000 people die in America each year at the hands of gun violence? The talking heads yelling from every TV camera blame everything from Satan to video games. But are we that much different from many other countries? What sets us apart? How have we become both the master and victim of such enormous amounts of violence? This is not a film about gun control. It is a film about the fearful heart and soul of the United States, and the 280 million Americans lucky enough to have the right to a constitutionally protected Uzi. Roger Moore collapses on stage in New York
Former James Bond actor is now an ambassador for Children's Charity. Story Tools LONDON, England (Reuters) British actor Roger Moore, 75, who starred as secret agent James Bond in the 1970s and 80s, collapsed on stage in New York and was being treated in hospital on Thursday, his agent said. "I can confirm he collapsed during a performance of a play, but I have no more information as to his condition," his London agent told Reuters. British media reported that Moore was being treated in a Manhattan hospital with respiratory problems after collapsing on Wednesday during a performance of "The Play What I Wrote," in which he had a minor role. He was reported to be in stable condition. London-born Moore took over the role of 007 agent James Bond from Sean Connery in the 1973 film "Live and Let Die" after shooting to international fame in the 1960s on television as "The Saint." Moore went on to star in another six Bond films his final appearance was in 1985's "A View to a Kill" and always played the secret agent with a heavy touch of humor.

Mike's Message : FAQ Q: "What cereal do you eat?"
A: "A combination of Post Raisin Bran and Start Smart from Kellogg's. (This is not a product endorsement. Both these cereals contain worms and anthrax and the chairmen of their companies live in North Korea and Tajikistan, respectively.)" Q: "Have you ever met Roger Smith?"
A: "No. He has never called or written to say 'thanks'. I did just miss him once while changing planes in Detroit. He had just gotten off the plane I was getting on. Some Northwest employees thought it would be funny to bring us together so one of them went on the PA system and announced, 'Roger Smith, please pick up the white courtesy phone for a call from Michael Moore.' He never did." Q: "OK. Fine. So have you ever met Roger Moore?"
A: "No, I have never met him, but my friend Ben Hamper has been on the Today Show with him and he asked him if anyone ever called him 'Michael Moore.' Roger said that has never happened, and then called for security." Q: "When you were making that one Bond film in Monte Carlo, did you ever play the casino in your off-hours and, if so, what was the most you won?"
A: "I have never appeared in a Bond film. Those who have played Bond are: Sean Connery, Roger Moore (I'm Michael Moore), Pierce Brosnan and two other guys I can't remember. I did go into a casino once in Michigan and won $980 on that wheel with the numbers where you throw a little white ball on it and it lands on a number."
