Fahrenheit 9/11 Wins Top Prize in Cannes Friends, Hello from Cannes! I’m sure by now many of you have heard the good news—“Fahrenheit 9/11” has won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. It is the first time in nearly 50 years a documentary has won the Palme d’Or (the Golden Palm). Myself and twenty-six members of our crew are here in Cannes and we are in a state of shock. None of us expected this. First came the critics’ reviews on Monday (The New York Times called it my best film ever), then the audience reaction at our premiere (a 20-minute standing ovation, a new all-time record for the festival), the International Federation of Film Critics Award on Friday, and then the best film prize last night. It’s all been an incredible week for us and I can’t wait to get back home and show you all this wonderfully powerful film we’ve made. No, we still don’t have a distributor in America as I write this but after winning the world’s top film prize I’d give it about one more day (if that) before we have someone brave enough (and smart enough) to show Americans what the world can already see (Albania, this week, became the final country—other than the U.S.—to sign on with a distributor). I am still hoping for a July release (4th of July weekend?) both in the U.S. and around the world.

Sir Roger Moore
Roger George Moore was born in Stockwell, south London on October 14, 1927, the son of a policeman. At 15, he entered art school with the intention of becoming a painter, and later became an apprentice at an animation studio. He delved into acting as an extra in crowd scenes in the mid 1940's. He studied at the Royal Academy of Drama (RADA) and appeared in some plays in the West End, before being inducted into the British Army. There he served in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant with a Combined Services Entertainment Unit in Germany at the end of World War II. After release from the military, he worked in theatre, radio and television, but also worked as a model and salesman to make ends meet. Moore came to the U.S. in 1953, where he got a film contract with MGM, playing supporting roles in several films. His first big TV series was Ivanhoe , followed by Maverick . But it was his role as suave and debonair Simon Templar in the TV series The Saint that catapulted him to stardom. His contract with that show prevented him from being chosen for to play James Bond in 1962. But the Bond role returned to Moore in 1972, when Sean Connery again said for a second time that he was finished as Bond, and Moore was hired as his successor for

In The Big One , his latest documentary, he travels the nation on a promotional tour for his 1996 book Downsize This! The documentary that catapulted Moore into the realm of famous angry liberal was 1989's , his record of the decline of his hometown of Flint, Mich. after General Motors closed its factories there. Much more personal than The Big One is nevertheless fascinating in its portrayal of, well, weird people in a weird town. Moore's dogged pursuit of GM chairman Roger Smith is just the icing on the cake. And although our economy seems a long way from 1989, the lessons of Coury Turczyn Other Films by Michael Moore

Who am I
First of all, I'm not that guy who played James Bond in all of the movies. People always ask, so I thought I'd get ahead and answer before anyone had a chance. I like to think of myself as a chemist. It sort of defines who I am, both in terms of my job and my outlook on life. I graduated from Caltech in 1994 with a degree in Chemistry, concentrating on organic synthesis. At Caltech, I was a memeber of Fleming House , the finest house on campus. I currently work at The Beckman Research Institute at the City of Hope , the research branch of a major cancer hospital. My work there involves developing improved methods of chemical protein sequencing. I have a number of interests besides Chemistry. I'm moderately serious about baseball, both following the Colorado Rockies and studying the history of the game and its players. I also do some writing, although I have a bad habit of starting pieces and not finishing them.

Roger Moore collapses on stage
Moore has been an ambassador for U.N. children's fund since 1991. Story Tools RELATED SITES Roger Moore "Play What I Wrote" NEW YORK Former James Bond star Roger Moore was recovering in hospital Thursday after collapsing on a Broadway stage. The 75-year-old British actor, who had been complaining of breathing difficulties, had been singing and dancing in the second act of the show, "The Play What I Wrote" in which he has a cameo role as a secret celebrity guest at the Lyceum on Broadway. Moore, who played secret agent James Bond for more than 12 years during the 1970s and 1980s, was "comfortable and doing well," according to his assistant Gareth Owen. "Roger was taken short of breath and fell to the floor on stage," Owen told the UK's Press Association. The performance was resumed after a short break in which the curtains came down. Moore battled through the final 10 minutes of his performance before being taken away by ambulance with an oxygen mask covering his face, PA said. He was being treated at St Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, where he is reported to be in stable condition. The cause of his collapse is unknown.

MOORE, ROGER British Actor Roger Moore settled into by 1948, appearing in small roles on British television, radio and repertory theatre. In 1953 Moore went to Hollywood where he secured an MGM contract, appearing in minor roles in four features over the next two years. He moved to Warner Brothers and appeared in several features including The Sins of Rachel Cade . In 1958 Moore returned to England for a year to star in the television series, Ivanhoe , a co-production between Screen Gems of America and Sydney Box. The series was part of a historical cycle in British television in the second half of the 1950s and the Ivanhoe series was an admirable effort in the genre. The series was loosely based on the chivalric exploits of Ivanhoe during the time of Prince John with the hero drawn from the novel by Sir Walter Scott. As the figure of the title, Moore was suitably dashing, an energetic defender of the weak and the poor and a nobleman to boot. Back in Hollywood with Warners in 1959, Moore was given a starring role in the television series
