Mary Tyler Moore celebrated in Minneapolis
Mary Tyler Moore Editor's Note: CNN Access is a regular feature on CNN.com providing interviews with newsmakers from around the world. (CNN) She first flung her hat in the air 32 years ago, the celebratory ending of the opening credits of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Now Mary Tyler Moore has something else to celebrate a life-sized statue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, of her character, Mary Richards, performing that signature move. And you haven't seen the last of Mary. Later this month, she'll appear in a cast reunion of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" on TV. CNN "American Morning" anchor Paula Zahn spoke to Moore Wednesday morning. PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Yes, she could turn the world on with her smile, and now 25 years after signing off, Mary Tyler Moore is getting ready to host a cast reunion of her classic TV show. The one and only Mary Tyler Moore joins us on a very windy and cold Minneapolis morning. Mary, good to see you. Congratulations.

I'd like to thank all those without whom this Episode Guide could not be completed. First and foremost, Jim Pattison for compiling the first Mary Tyler Moore episode guide on the internet, which gave me the air dates, order and Emmys won by the show. And, all the members of the list who contributed to the Guide by answering some of my questions. Special thanks are due to Stacey Emerson whose contribution helped me fill some gaps in my memory about Season 1 episodes, and to Richard Mains, whose comprehensive site provided additional information. The folks at TV Party have a clip from TMTMS which fans will need to view: there's a slightly different theme song (listen very carefully to the lyrics and the tempo), and a very different office for Lou Grant and the famous interview scene. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was one of the most literate,
realistic, and enduring situation comedies of the 1970s.
Mary Richards was the idealized single career woman. She
had come to Minneapolis after breaking up with a man she
had been dating for four years. Ambitious, and looking for
new friends, she moved into an older apartment building and went to work as an assistant producer of the local news show on television station WJM-TV. In her early 30s, Mary symbolized the independent woman of the 1970s. Mary's boss was WJM-TV News producer Lou Grant, an irascible

The sitcom where Love Is All Around
"[Mary Richards has] always been so much a part of me.... We are soul mates." Mary Tyler Moore , in Canada's TV Guide on the character she played from 1970 to 1977
When The Mary Tyler Moore Show debuted on CBS on September 19, 1970, it was clear that this was a sitcom unlike any before it. For the first time, a female lead character on television was leading a happy, successful life without necessarily looking for "Mr. Right". Mary Richards, the series' main character, was the type of woman every man wanted to marry and every woman wanted to be. She stole viewers' hearts with her girl-next-door personality and warm smile. The show was able to handle serious issues such as freedom of the press, premarital sex and divorce in an honest, funny, intelligent manner without preaching to the audience. As a further testament to the series and its stars, Mary Tyler Moore was awarded a record twenty-nine Emmys in it's seven seasons.

Statue of Mary Tyler Moore in downtown Minneapolis Keir Briscoe http://keir.briscoe.com The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a long-running sitcom that appeared on CBS from television history. Mary Tyler Moore starred as Mary Richards, a 30ish single woman who worked as a news producer at WJM-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota . Her coworkers included the crusty producer Lou Grant Ed Asner ), newswriter Murray Slaughter ( Gavin MacLeod ) and the buffoonish anchor Ted Baxter ( Ted Knight ). Mary's neighbors were the self-deprecating Rhoda Morgenstern ( Valerie Harper ) and the insincere landlady Phyllis ( Cloris Leachman ). Later series regulars included Betty White , who played Sue Ann Nivens (the sardonic and lascivious host of a show called, rather ironically given Sue Ann's off-screen persona, The Happy Homemaker ); and Georgia Engel , who played Georgette, the somewhat dim but remarkably good hearted love interest of Ted Baxter. Unlike the characters in such earlier sitcoms as That Girl , the single Mary wasn't rushing into getting married or having kids. Significantly, her neighbors and coworkers served as a

Mary Tyler Moore is this week's recipient of 'Worst Celebrity Plastic Surgery'. Her name tops the list of names sent in by web surfers for bad celebrity plastic surgery suggestions. Like many people in Hollywood, Mary Tyler Moore has tried to hang on to her youth by any means necessary with somewhat distastrous results. She doesn't have sagging jowls like many people her age, but her face is so tight it looks like a defective Halloween mask. Scarily enough, it is her real face. There's a vast difference between her late 70's face and her late 90's / early 00's face. Had she left everything alone and just aged naturally, she would have looked nice, kind of like Mary Tyler Moore's mother. Alas, trying to stop time, she had a face lift which destroyed the delicate plains of her face. Notice the difference in her facial shape, her face is flatter in the more recent photos. Strangest of all, she had a nose job (her previous nose was perfect), notice the change in the shape of her nostrils.
My Face Is So Tight I Can't Stop Smiling!
