Lucky: A little girl once called me"Please mommy, not him."- Doctor Dolittle Enjoy this magic world with us! Only thinking about, you will join this world of the sublime wich will sent you into another dimension. Art, through all its expresions, whether we are talking about painting, sculpture, writing, poetry, literature, architecture, photography, cinema, theatre, dance, music, literature, romance, design... is the only one that can enliven the reality. It is an uplifting situation that those who adorn the mind are challenging our immagination and our wits with their undying creations. When it comes to atoms, language can be used only as in poetry. The poet, too, is not nearly so concerned with describing facts as with creating images.- Niels Bohr 'The thing about performance, even if it's only an illusion, is that it's a celebration of the fact that we do contain within ourselves infinite possibilities.' Daniel Day- Lewis Ah , but a man's reach should exceed his grasp or what's a heaven for? Robert Browning

Vaccines We developed the first epidemic control model for both HIV and tuberculosis vaccines. Subsequently we have also developed a model to design HIV vaccination strategies for HIV epidemics that are generated by more than one subtype. We have used these models to calculate the critical vaccination coverage levels that are necessary for eradication, as well as to predict the effects of non-eradicating control strategies. We have also quantified the interactive epidemiological impact of changes in risk behavior and HIV vaccination campaigns. Recently we have investigated the potential impact of live attenuated vaccines.

HIV Our recent research on HIV can be classified into three areas: (i) modeling the effect of HIV vaccines as epidemic control agents, (ii) statistical data analyses that enable quantifying the importance of sexual mixing as a risk factor for HIV infection and (iii) modeling the evolution of drug resistant HIV and predicting the consequences of increasing usage of antiretroviral therapy. Modeling: We developed the first epidemic control model for HIV vaccines. Subsequently we developed models that include genetic heterogeneity to design vaccination strategies for HIV epidemics that are generated by more than one subtype; we have determined the degree of vaccine-induced cross-immunity that would be necessary to eradicate HIV. We have used our models to calculate the critical vaccine efficacy and vaccination coverage levels that are necessary for eradication, as well as to predict the effects of non-eradicating control strategies. We have also used our models to predict the epidemiological impact of HIV mass vaccination campaigns in the presence of changes in risk behavior. Recently we have investigated the potential impact of live attenuated HIV vaccines.

    The Wedding o' Westfield
There is another song which uses the phrase 'go to the broom' directly. This song has many versions - it may be called Allan McLean Sally Allen The Wedding of Westfield or The Four Students . It occupies several pages of the Greig Duncan collection Book 7, with many versions, and it's an excellent 3/4 tune which is very simple and easy to sing. Here is my conflation and adbridgement of the various different versions, together with a short MP3 sound file which indicates the tune of my preference - the variations are considerable. The MPEG track is 152Kb and it sounds perfect. This is a one-mike recording on Sony Minidisk - Lowden S25J nylon string used acoustically, one Creative Labs condensor mike placed on the seat in front of me, no effects. Just play and sing. It is played with a Drop D tuning, in D, and the only chords required are D, G and A with an optional Bm and Em in the penultimate bar. It can be tackled entirely using D and G with a D drone and works equally well, with small amendments, played modally with dulcimer. As it is a very short and simple tune I see no particular reason why a complete harmonic variant - shifting the structure to a related minor, perhaps - should not be used to give the song some relief for a selected verse. An alternative would be to shift the entire thing up a full tone for the closing three verses. Apparently, the song is or was popular in North East Scotland and was recorded in the past, but it does not seem to be in the repertoire of bands today and I've never heard it live, or noticed it on albums. I notice that the different version give various birthplaces - Cheshire, Sheffield, Paris, the Colonies and non-existent stuff like Cholshire and Freeburgh - so I would assume that singers were in the habit of customising the song to suit wherever they were singing.
