Sir Paul's $2m cancer donation
Paul with Linda who died from breast cancer
Pop legend Sir Paul McCartney has donated $2m (£1.25m) to two US hospitals that cared for his late wife Linda when she was dying from breast cancer.
The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona, will receive $1m (£625,000) each.
"Linda's doctors were all great and managed to alleviate suffering which she might otherwise have had," the former Beatle said in a statement.
"I want to help them continue that work for the benefit of others and to enable them to study the possibilities of alternative treatments." In keeping with the McCartneys' belief in animal welfare, none of the money will be used to fund animal research. The gifts will fund new research on the effectiveness of botanical medicines and holistic therapies. Dr Larry Norton, of Sloan-Kettering's breast cancer unit, said new research required "total dedication" and "commitment to the total person, which must now include complementary and integrative 'alternative' medicine."

McCartney to release WTC single
LONDON, England (CNN) Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney says he will release a new song worldwide to raise money for families of rescuers who died in the World Trade Center attacks. All proceeds from the sales of his new single, "From a Lover to a Friend," to be released on October 29, would go to New York's fire and police departments whose bravery has won the salute and applause of the world, McCartney said. Hundreds of men from the city's fire service are still missing, believed to be buried beneath the rubble of what was once the twin tower complex of the World Trade Center. McCartney was in the city and on an airliner waiting to leave when the tragedy unfolded on September 11. In a statement released on Wednesday he said: "I witnessed the last moments of the World Trade Center twin towers. Out of the window of the plane I could see the towers smoking and in flames and, like everybody, I could not believe what was happening.

McCartney and Mills expecting baby
The couple married at an Irish castle in June 2002. Story Tools LONDON, England Paul McCartney's wife Heather is pregnant with their first child, a spokesman for the couple has announced. "We are delighted with this happy news," the couple said in a brief statement. The baby is expected later this year, the spokesman said. Heather Mills McCartney, 34, has made no secret of the fact that she wants a baby. Rumors of a pregnancy have circulated over the past few weeks. The couple married at an Irish castle in June 2002. It will be the first baby for Mills McCartney, and the fifth for McCartney. The 60-year-old former Beatle is father to Mary, 33, Stella, 31, and James, 25, and stepfather to Heather, 39, all by his first wife Linda. Three months ago, Mills McCartney, who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident, said she was worried she would never conceive. She told interviewer Michael Parkinson a catalogue of health problems had damaged her fertility. Discussing pregnancy rumors, she said: "They said I'd been pregnant, which is really hurtful, knowing that I've had cancer of the uterus and two ectopic pregnancies.

McCartney 'Back in the USSR'
Former Beatle McCartney performs during his concert in Red Square. Story Tools MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) Almost four decades after he wrote "Back in the USSR" Paul McCartney finally made it to Russia. McCartney rocked Red Square with Beatles classics and many of his own songs for nearly three hours Saturday night, capping his first trip ever to Russia, where his music flourished during the '70s and '80s despite being banned by the communist government. He became the first Beatle to play in Red Square. Even tickets costing up to $300 three times the average monthly wage didn't stop Russians like office manager Slava Astakhov from coming to the concert. "We could buy a ticket to Stockholm for this price but when you're talking about McCartney, it doesn't seem that expensive," he said. A crowd of 20,000 filled the former Communist parade ground which also holds Vladimir Lenin's Mauseleum to hear McCartney perform 38 songs, including the hit "Back in the USSR," "Hey Jude," "The Long and Winding Road" and "Eleanor Rigby." Several songs, including "She's Leaving Home" and "Two of Us" have never been played in public before McCartney's current tour. The show also included McCartney's tributes to the late Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison.

News Release:
PAUL McCARTNEY APPEALS TO PRIME MINISTER OVER INDIA'S BLACK-MARKET LEATHER TRADE
For Immediate Release:
March 30, 2000 Contact:
Joey Penello 757-622-7382 New Delhi Describing himself as "deeply upset" by the abuse of Indian cows in the international leather trade, Paul McCartney is urging Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to fight the corruption and illegal practices that permeate the transport and slaughter of cows in India-animals whose skins end up in stores in New York, London, and all over the world. "These cows, bullocks, and calves, their eyes filled with fear and pain, are sent to slaughter, jam-packed together in overcrowded lorries, travelling for hundreds of kilometers without food or water," McCartney writes in a letter he penned after viewing evidence gathered in India by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). "Those who collapse from exhaustion and injuries are savagely beaten, have hot chili peppers smeared into their eyes, and have their tails deliberately broken at each joint." McCartney hopes his letter will convince the Prime Minister to meet with PETA officials who are anxious to brief him on their investigation's findings.

Paul McCartney: Carry That Weight
BRIAN W. FAIRBANKS-WRITER
MUSIC Paul McCartney:
Carry That Weight
By Brian W. Fairbanks Does anyone still think of Paul McCartney as the "cute" Beatle? If so, they believe in yesterday. Thirty-eight years have come and gone since the Liverpool quartet sent Bobby Vinton packing, and yesterdays are all that remain of John Lennon and George Harrison. For McCartney, life goes on, but when he turns 60 on June 18, will those who experienced Beatlemania first hand sing a jubilant "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da," or turn to another page in the Fab Four songbook, read the news that day and sigh a weary "oh boy"? The generation that thought it unwise to trust anyone over 30 is now old enough to regard rock and roll as something their teeth do when they run out of Poligrip. Physical deterioration aside, nothing brings the passing years into focus like an aging icon. McCartney isn't the first major figure of Sixties youth culture to reach the age associated with grandmas. The candles on Bob Dylan 's birthday cake represented the same fire hazard last year. However, the grizzled voice that warned of a hard rain to fall never sounded youthful. Dylan also lacked the cuddly qualities favored by readers of Tiger Beat.

174. The Smoking Gun: Paul: "Pepper" Lyrics Pinched
Letters and legal documents relating to the mccartneyZimet court action.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/paul/paul.shtml
Paul McCartney claims that the original handwritten lyrics to The Beatles's classic "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" were stolen from his London home 30 years ago. So, when New York memorabilia dealer Gary Zimet recently offered to sell McCartney the lyric sheet for $550,000, the musician headed for court. McCartney filed a lawsuit against Zimet, who claims he was only acting as a broker for another collector who has the lyrics. As a result of the New York State Supreme Court action, Zimet has reportedly given McCartney's attorney, Alan Friedman, the name of the other collector. Presumably, that unnamed party will now be pursued in court by McCartney. Zimet, as you may recall, recently peddled the album John Lennon signed for Mark David Chapman only hours before Chapman shot the ex-Beatle. What follows are some of the documents filed in the McCartney-Zimet action, including a copy of the allegedly purloined lyrics and an affidavit from Sir Paul himself. James Paul McCartney was born on
June 18, 1942 in Liverpool, England to James and Mary McCartney. He teamed up with John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr to form the Beatles. The biggest rock band of all-time. In 1970 the group spilt and Paul began his solo career. Paul's first album after the Beatles was a low key effort. The 1970 "McCartney" is a collection of songs all written and performed by Paul. The album contained some potential hits especially "Maybe I'm Amazed" but no singles were released none the less "McCartney" rose to #1 on the album charts. His next album, "Ram" was a full-out production with outside musicians and the result was a record full of harmonies and melodies sounding reminiscent of "Abbey Road" Beatles. It includes his first #1 single "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". After this record Paul decided to form a band, which he called Wings. The first version included Paul and Linda, with Denny Laine on Guitar, and Denny Seiwell on Drums. An album was quickly thrown together and the result was the loose "Wild Life". The cover of "Wild Live"
