LONDON, England (AP) He may be one of the world's most popular musicians, but Paul McCartney failed to impress residents in a corner of east London when he began rehearsing nearby. The former Beatle's raucous sessions in the Millennium Dome drew complaints from people living on the other side of the River Thames. McCartney, 61, is preparing for an upcoming tour. "I thought someone was listening to a ghetto blaster in one of the other flats," local resident Eric Pemberton, 67, said of the noise. "I had the windows closed and the front door just open enough to let the cat in and out. "It took me a while to realize that this bass was coming from the Dome on the other side of the river," said Pemberton, who lives in the London district of Tower Hamlets. The Dome is situated in the district of Greenwich, south of the Thames. "I rang up the environmental health officers at the council and they told me 'It's Paul McCartney,"' Pemberton said. "I said 'So what? He doesn't pay my (taxes), and if it was me that was doing this I would have been prosecuted.'

Signum Magnum
Letter on the Blessed Virgin Mary
His Holiness Pope Paul VI
Promulgated on May 13, 1967
To the Catholic bishops of the world. Venerable brothers, health and apostolic blessings. THE GREAT SIGN which the Apostle John saw in heaven, "a woman clothed with the sun," [1] is interpreted by the sacred Liturgy, [2] not without foundation, as referring to the most blessed Mary, the mother of all men by the grace of Christ the Redeemer. The memory, venerable brothers, is still vivid in our mind of the great emotion we felt in proclaiming the august Mother of God as the spiritual Mother of the Church, that is to say, of all the faithful and of the sacred pastors, as the crowning of the third session of the Second Vatican Council, after having solemnly promulgated the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church. [3] Great also was the happiness of numerous Council Fathers, as well as of the faithful, who were present at the sacred rite in St. Peter's basilica and of the entire Christian people scattered throughout the world. The memory came spontaneously to many minds of the first grandiose triumph achieved by the humble "handmaid of the Lord" [4] when the Fathers from East and West, gathered in an ecumenical council at Ephesus in the year 431 greeted Mary as "Theotokos" genitrix of God. The Christian population of the illustrious city associated themselves with a jubilant impulse of faith with the exultance of the Fathers and accompanied them with torchlights to their dwellings.

Allan Bloom's Last Testament
By Paul Varnell Originally appeared May 17, 2000, in the Chicago Free Press. Allan Bloom, subject of a new novel by Saul Bellow, stood head and shoulders above most critics of modern education and contemporary culture. But many of the conservatives who lionized him did not know, or did not want to know, or did not want it known that they were admiring a gay man. SAUL BELLOW is one of America's most distinguished novelists. Whenever he publishes a new work it is a literary event. But his most recent novel "Ravelstein," based on Bellow's long friendship with University of Chicago political philosopher Allan Bloom, is something of a political/cultural event as well because it reveals to the general public that Bloom was gay and, apparently, died of AIDS. Bloom himself became a cultural phenomenon back in 1987 when he published his famous polemic "The Closing of the American Mind," a scathing criticism of modern American university education for its shallowness and triviality.

Paul McCartney Mulls World Tour
by Emily Farache

Why don't you do it on the road, Paul McCartney "That would be good. I do fancy that actually," the former Beatle said in a statement Wednesday regarding plans to launch his first world tour in eight years this fall. McCartney, whose debuted at number two on the charts this week while the special of the same name drew about 15 million people Friday, is putting the final touches on a new studio album for release in September, at which time he says he's likely to launch some kind of world tour. a d v e r t i s e m e n t
"I think it is very likely that I might tour around then. I like to go out on the road with a new album and I'm very excited by this one," McCartney says. "I've been recording it in the States and we recorded 18 tracks in just two weeks. Recording new songs makes you enthusiastic and want to get out and play them." The tour, described by Reuters as possibly a series of "impromptu shows," would be McCartney's first since 1993's

Ascendente Domino
A Bull issued by Gregory XIII , 24 May, 1584, in favor of the Society of Jesus , to confirm the constitution of the Society , and the privileges already granted to it by Paul III, Julius III, Paul IV, and Pius V . It recalls and confirms the means which St. Ignatius had prescribed in order that the Society might attain the end for which he had founded it. Candidates have first to make two years' novitiate; they then take three simple vows. Thus they cease to be novices, and belong to the body of the Society . These simple vows are perpetuated on the part of those who make them, but on the part of the Society they bind only so long as the General thinks fit to retain as members of the Society those who have taken them. The unformed Temporal Coadjutors, after some years, if the General thinks them fit, are admitted to the grade of Formed Temporal Coadjutors. But before they become either Professed or Formed Spiritual Coadjutors, the Scholastics, having completed their studies, must go through a third year's probation. If Professed, they take a fourth vow of obedience to assume any mission the Pope may enjoin on them. Any, even those with simple vows made at the end of the second year's novitiate, who leave the Society under any pretext (unless to become Carthusians), without express permission, shall be regarded as apostates, and incur

So, what makes a better sequel to a racing game? Basically, not much in this case. Apart from the necessary visual enhancements, gamers will unquestionably expect new tracks and vehicles, and 4x4 Evolution 2 has just that, along with some additional features. A word from our sponsors:
Go further if you dare!
Watch those babies fly... Essentially, the purpose throughout the game remained the same: to show your racing skills and win cash prizes that will allow you to upgrade your base truck into a more efficient off-road vehicle. Relying on your choice of equipment and your driving abilities, you'll get to taste the delights of rushing through huge desert canyons, vast fields, swamps, high-ways, and so on. Depending on the track's features, you'll have to adjust your truck/SUV so that it can resist the oncoming dangers - like spilt oil on the road, stony paths, bushes, huge, and tree-trunks. This is where the authenticity of car parts comes in. There are somewhere around 90 pieces of vehicle gear, which can give your truck the proper boost up. So, like in the previous game you have to employ these components in such an order that applies to the features of your vehicle. Therefore, you will give your truck stability, speed, manoeuvrability, and endurance.

Police: We may not get Dando killer
Jill Dando was one of the BBC's best-known presenters
Police have admitted they may never catch the murderer of BBC presenter Jill Dando. Metropolitan Commissioner Sir Paul Condon said the time might come when "there is nothing more to be done". But on Saturday night a spokeswoman for Scotland Yard stressed the Dando case "remained solvable". She said: "There are many lines of inquiry still to pursue which we will continue to do vigorously." Ms Dando, 37, who presented the BBC's Crimewatch programme, was shot in the head at close range with a semi-automatic 9mm handgun outside her home in Fulham, west London, on 26 April. Despite a massive murder inquiry, police have not pinpointed a motive or a suspect. There are a small amount of stranger murders that remain unsolved Sir Paul Condon Sir Paul, in an interview with the Daily Mail, said: "When - if and when - the team reaches the point where they have given it their best go and there is nothing more to be done, then we have to say that.

    Welcome to St. Paul’s
At the heart of this parish lies a deep commitment to a common pursuit of Christ, expressed in the rich Anglo-Catholic tradition. As we rub shoulders with one another in worship, fellowship, formation, and ministry, we are by Grace molded in the Image of God which is our true self. Experiencing the transforming power of Divine Grace with one another, we reach out to one another and to the world, seeking restoration and redemption. In essence, the Death and Resurrection of Jesus take form in our very midst as the Word is made flesh in Sacrament, Word, and fellowship. We invite you to make your pilgrimage with us.

    80. All 10 Million Europeans: Demographic Collapse.
Asserts that fear of population growth and ecological crisis may soon be replaced by fear of population collapse, since global forecasts include scenarios of decline, in Europe it seems unavoidable.
    http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.Treanor/nohumans.html
    ALL 10 MILLION EUROPEANS
The last two generations grew up with the idea of the "population explosion". For a century the world has lived with constant upward revision of population forecasts: the only question was if the growth would be fast, or very fast. And the last generation faced the question: how many billions can this planet support? So it is a culture shock, when new projections of global population include scenarios of dramatic population decline - without any meteorite impacts, new epidemics, or famines. Or when a UN report suggests that Europe needs 700 million immigrants to maintain its age structure... Is the future population nightmare not rural Bangladesh, but rural Estonia? Revised December 2003, last changes 17 January 2004. The myth of population growth was strong until recently. A few years ago, the website of the Latvian Demographic Research centre included this image of the population boom, a 1997 painting by A. Bauskenieks called Demographic Explosion. But the image is the opposite of the truth: the population of Latvia is falling - month after month, year after year, as the tables at Latvian Statistics show. In recent years, population fell from 2 529 000 at the start of 1995, to 2 320 000 at the end of 2003 - more than 10% under the 1990 peak. Latvia joins the EU in 2004 with the highest death rate, and largest natural population loss, of all member states. Apparently, the Demographic Research centre has realised the painting is inappropriate: it has been moved or deleted from the website. Latvia now needs research and policy for a demographic collapse, not for a population explosion.
