Groucho Marx: Now pay particular attention to this first clause, because it's most important. There's the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part. How do you like that, that's pretty neat eh?
Chico Marx: No, that's no good.
Groucho Marx: What's the matter with it?
Chico Marx: I don't know, let's hear it again.
Groucho Marx: So the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part. Chico Marx: Well it sounds a little better this time. Groucho Marx: Well, it grows on you. Would you like to hear it once more? Chico Marx: Just the first part. Groucho Marx: What do you mean, the party of the first part? Chico Marx: No, the first part of the party, of the first part. Groucho Marx: All right. It says the first part of the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the first part of the party of the first part, shall be known in this contract - look, why should we quarrel about a thing like this, we'll take it right out, eh? Chico Marx: Yes, it's too long anyhow. Now what have we got left?

As an Aging New Yorker Humorist
Sanford Pinsker S. J. Perelman is one of those hearty perennials that generations of new readers keep "discovering." In the early 1960s, some of the waves of interest generated by a Nathanael West revival spilled over to his brother-in-law, S. J. Perelman. Like many another writer down on his proverbials, Perelman partook of the aid-and-comfort that West, as manager, dispensed at New York City’s Hotel Sutton: Since I was his friend and brother-in-law, it was only natural that my wife and I gravitated to his hostel when Sherry Flip slid into the vortex. A relative with a surplus of rooms was a mighty welcome spar, and we clung to him gratefully. He fixed up two cubbyholes into the semblance of a suite, for which, unsurprisingly, we paid skeletal rates, and he was quick to apply financial poultices when the wolf nipped at our heels. The Perelmans were, as they say, in good company: Lillian Heilman holed up at the Hotel Sutton, as did Dashiell Hammett, Norman Krasna and dozens of other talents, large, middle-sized and small. The result was less a "hotel" in the strictest, most cost-effective sense of the word and more an American version of the European salon. To be sure, West was the initial focus of the fascination with such reissued novels as

1985 International Quartet Champions known for their marx brothers routine.

    1985 International Quartet Champions
    The New Tradition
The New Tradition - perhaps better known to thousands of barbershoppers as the Marx Brothers' clones - won the gold in 1985. All are experienced international compeditors and medalists: tenor John Sherburn (Zeppo in their famous impersonation), lead Dan Jordan (Chico), bari Bob Gray Jr. (Harpo), and bass John Miller (Groucho).
The quartet is in a sense a spin-off of The Grand Tradition, international bronze medalists in 1980, '82, and '83, of which Dan and Bob were members. John Miller had won the gold in 1979 as bass of Grandma's boys, and John Sherburn sang with the Crown City Good Time Music Co., five time semi-finalists, and the Dapper Dans of Disneyland, among other quartets. Although the Marx Brothers routine is their best known, the always-entertaining foursome has appeared as leading characters of Star Trek, and as Charlie Chaplin, W. C. Fields and Laurel and Hardy, and other roles.
The quartet retired in 1989, when Sherburn replaced Larry Wright as lead of the 139th Street Quartet.

The Marx Brothers' first film was this early sound effort so early that the kinks still hadn't been worked out of the medium. (Watch out for scenes containing maps, newspapers, and other paper items they're all soaked in water to keep them from rustling in the primitive microphones.) But the four Marx Brothers do a fine job working around the technical shortcomings by unleashing their customarily irreverent barrage of wit. Groucho's one-liners are delivered so fast you can't stop to laugh at any one punchline, and Harpo eats up the set...literally. Although their best work was still to come, The Cocoanuts has an energy and freshness that, regrettably, wore off over the years.

    39. Giraffes On Horseback Salads
Unproduced 1937 film script written for the marx brothers by Salvador Dali.
    http://www.miskatonic.org/dali-marx.html
    Giraffes on Horseback Salads
This is from the May 1996 issue of Harper's Magazine . They comment: "From a previously unpublished film script by Salvador Dali, written in 1937 for the Marx Brothers. Dali, who was a fan of the comedians, had befriended Harpo Marx the year before. The film, entitled Giraffes on Horseback Salads The "Surrealist woman" is lying in the middle of a great bed, sixty feet long, with the rest of the guests seated around each side. Along the bed, as decorations, are a group of dwarfs caught by Harpo. Each is supported on a crystal base, decorated with climbing flowers. The dwarfs stay as still as statues, holding lighted candelabras, and change their positions every few minutes. While love tears at Jimmy's heart, Groucho tries to crack a nut on the bald head of the dwarf in front of him. The dwarf, far from looking surprised, smiles at Groucho in the most amiable way possible. Suddenly in the middle of dinner, thunder and lightning begin inside the room. A squall of wind blows the things over on the table and brings in a whirl of dry leaves, which stick to everything. As Groucho opens his umbrella, it begins to rain slowly. Although the guests show surprise, they try for a time to continue their meal, which is, however, brought to an end by showers of rain. In a panic, the guests rush in all directions, while from the hall a torrent of waters washes in, bringing with it all sorts of debris, including a drowned ox. A shepherd makes a desperate effort to collect his flock of sheep, which climb up on the sofas and the bed in an effort to avoid being carried away by the water. A cradle is carried in on the flood containing a baby crying piteously, followed by the mother, hair streaming behind her.
