Got back Sunday but have been busy preparing to move into my new apartment next week. Had a great weekend though. Here's a quick recap: Friday's game: Front row seats behind homeplate just to the left of the net. I went with my stepfather and his friend, Ron. Not only were the seats awesome but so was the weather. The temp was around 70 at game time with not a cloud in the sky. And the Sox whipped some ass. Manny's homer was mammoth and the six-run 8th inning left everyone feeling satisfied. All in all, a perfect night at the park. Saturday's game: Standing room only on the Green Monster with Pedro on the mound. Same posse as the night before except Doc made it down for this game too. I must say, I was amazed at how cool the view of the field is from up there. Definitely worth the money if you can score some seats. It was freezing though: 47 degrees at game time and windy. I wore a hooded jacket so I was okay but my stepfather was shivering and his lower lip was quivering so he had to go down to the concourse for a bit to warm up. Luckily, he made it back just in time for another colossal homer by Manny which tied the game at 2. Then the Sox poured it on late to seal another victory. Oh and Youkilis got his first hit at Fenway.

That's the number of candidates who met last week's filing deadline for the Senate election in Florida, where Democrat Bob Graham is retiring and both parties anticipate a close race. Of the 17, eight are Republicans, but Daniel Webster is not one of them, a conservative state legislator. After indicating that he was going to run (he even had a website ), Webster filed at the last minute for his state senate seat instead. The reason for his decision can be summed up in two words: Mel Martinez Bill McCollum leading with 27 percent, followed by Martinez at 18 percent, Webster at 8 percent, and Florida's speaker of the House, Johnnie Byrd , at 6 percent. With Webster out and Byrd failing to take flight, the contest probably will come down to Martinez and McCollum, who is well known around the state because he lost a race for the Senate against Bill Nelson four years ago. (This defeat to a colorless Democrat still irritates Republicans in Washington, who felt the election was winnable.) The GOP primary is scheduled for August 30, which awkwardly coincides with the first day of the Republican National Convention in New York. Florida is one of the most demographically eclectic states in the union, with the panhandle resembling Alabama, the Orlando area often feeling Midwestern, and Miami dominated by Cuban Americans. There's a significant military presence, both active-duty and retired, as well as a large number of senior citizens from the Northeast.
