Two years later (1589), he was present when William Bradley was murder by Thomas Watson (the poet) and both where jailed. Thomas Watson was later acquitted on the grounds of self-defense and Marlowe was released after spending two weeks in the jail. During this time in jail, he may have become an acquaintance of John Poole, who was convicted of counterfeiting. Coincidentally, counterfeiting was one the charges brought against Marlowe by Richard Baines, some years later. It is also interesting to note that Thomas Watson was a friend of Thomas Walsingham, who later employed Marlowe. The Jew of Malta is estimated to have been written around this time.
In the following year (1590) the first part of Tamburlaine was published with the authors name omitted. The play was an instant success among the public, but was not very well received among his peers. Two years later (1592) the second part of

    The Marlowe Conspiracy:
    Part I
On May 30, 1593, in a charming little rooming house in Deptford, Mother England turned her head for only a moment while one of her most gifted servants was slaughtered. The young man whose brilliant mind spawned some of the greatest tragedies known to man was and was privy to the darkest secrets of Elizabethan society was forever silenced by the thrust of a dagger. Why was Christopher Marlowe murdered?
The plot surrounding Marlowe's life and death is one so fantastic and complicated that I hesitate to take on the burden of revealing it to you. It is accepted among scholars that Christopher Marlowe was a spy in the Queen's secret service. It is documented that while attending college, Marlowe was absent for several lengthy periods of time. It came to the attention of Cambridge that Marlowe had been spending time in Rheims, a reputed Catholic haven. Armed with this knowledge Cambridge assumed the worst and threatened to withhold Christopher Marlowe's M.A. degree. However, the Queen's Privy Council intervened on Marlowe's behalf with a letter dated June 29, 1587, stating he had been about the Queen's business and had acted for the benefit of his country. This would not be the last time Marlowe's intentions would be misunderstood.
To penetrate and deceive a society of powerful and dangerous men took the skill of an actor, but to remain among them and be accepted as one of their own on a day to day basis took true genius. Certainly Christopher Marlowe possessed both of those qualities. During his exploits he came into the company of many a notorious villain and as a result received the reputation of a scoundrel himself. Marlowe was present when Thomas Watson murdered William Bradley and was jailed for several days pending an investigation. Watson was acquitted on grounds of self-defense and both Marlowe and Watson were released. Such events have a way of tarnishing ones reputation.

She rents rooms for meetings, and provides food and drink to those who wish to spend the day in contemplation. It is just after six in the evening, the sun not yet set, the room suffused in a pale, golden light. Supper is over. In a matter of minutes, Christopher Marlowe will be dead. 56. Was Marlowe The Man?
On june 1, 1593, marlowe was reported to have been stabbed to death by a bawdyservingman in a lewd brawl at a Deptford inn, three miles from London.
    http://www2.prestel.co.uk/rey/webster.htm
    WAS MARLOWE THE MAN?
Archie Webster 's original essay, published in The National Review (VOL.LXXXII, pp.81-86) dated September 1923.
(And therefore before Hotson's discovery in 1925 of the Coroner's Inquisition concerning Marlowe's death.) MORE than a generation ago the learned Professor Dowden called attention to the fact that no theory advanced by scholars explained the doubts and difficulties of the autobiographic statements made by Shakespeare in the Sonnets . While it is obvious that an explanation must exist, all commentators up to the present have been content to elucidate some of the one hundred and fifty-four sonnets and dismiss the balance as a The sonnets purport to be a story of Shakespeare's life from his own pen. The story conflicts with all the historic information we have of the Stratford genius, hence the difficulty of explaining it. The story is just as foreign to the history of Francis Bacon, Sir Walter Raleigh, the Earl of Oxford, and sundry others who have been suspected of hiding their poetic talent under the mask name of Shakespeare. It is caviar to all schools. In many sonnets Shakespeare protests that he is absent from England against his will. His name received a brand (111), and he was a lonely outcast, disgraced in the eyes of men (29). This alleged absence is an abysmal mystery to the scholars, who know nothing of such a period of exile in the career of the Swan of Avon. As to the disgrace, the scholars surmise that the bard felt himself to be branded because he was an actor, and actors are said to have been held in very low repute in that day. This may pass as an explanation of 29 and 111, however feeble it may seem to some of us, but it collapses when applied to many other sonnets, such as, for instance, 36, in which Shakespeare wrote to the Earl of Southampton

CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE - Some biographical facts
Peter Farey The earliest record we have of the poet and dramatist Christopher Marlowe is of his baptism at St. George's Church, Canterbury, on 26th February 1564. So, although his actual date of birth is unknown, at least we know that it must have been before this. We can also work out the earliest date for his birth in fact, as he must have been under fifteen - the maximum age for acceptance - when he entered the King's School, Canterbury on 14th January 1579. Any birthday between 15th January and 25th February 1564 is possible therefore, but a date nearer to the later of these is much more likely. There is no known basis for the web-wide belief that he was born on 6th February. Christopher was the second child of John Marlowe, a shoemaker and freeman of Canterbury, who had come there from Ospringe - a village some ten miles nearer London - about eight years earlier. His mother, who had married John in May 1561, was Katherine Arthur, from a family in Dover, roughly fifteen miles south-east of Canterbury. Their first child, a daughter (Mary), lived for only a very few years after Christopher's birth, and of the other Marlowe children, only six apparently reached adulthood - Christopher himself, Margaret, Joan, Ann, Dorothy and Thomas. It is perhaps worth mentioning the fact that spelling was not standardized at that time, and Marlowe's name was spelt many different ways in the course of his life. This has given rise to doubt in some people's minds as to whether it is necessarily the same person being referred to each time in his 'standard' biography. This is considered in more detail in my essay

An Even Simpler Little Marlowe Story
Ok. I’m here to tell the story of how the elusive genius Christopher Marlowe became the even more illusive writer "William Shakespeare". It is a story full of mystery and perhaps some magic. It is an old tale that goes back to when Marlowe supposedly or officially “died” and “Shakespeare” materialized, out of the ether, to take his place. Christopher Marlowe b. 1564, "dies" 30 May 1593 and "William Shakespeare" appears early in June 1593 to take his FOREMOST place among men of English Letters. NOTE: SCHOLARS CAN FIND NO CONNECTION BETWEEN "WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE" AND WILLIAM SHAKSPERE THE RUSTIC ACTOR UNTIL 1623 WHEN THEY ARE CLAIMED THE SAME PERSON IN AN ADVERTISEMENT OR INFOMERCIAL IN THE FIRST FOLIO. MARLOVIANS ARE NOT SUGGESTING MARLOWE BECAME THE RUSTIC ACTOR AND PRODUCER OF PLAYS AT THE GLOBE PLAYHOUSE WILLIAM SHAKSPERE, 1654-1616. THAT MAN AND HIS ILLITERATE FAMILY WERE ONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PLAYS OF "WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE" PLAYS WRITTEN BY CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE. ( SEE: HOW POOR WILLY PRODUCED SHAKESPEARE To pull off this fraud, a body was stolen and switched, friends foreswore themselves, and a new identity or two were taken.

Primary Documents Relating to Christopher Marlowe
The following is a scan of the Privy Council's entail to Cambridge University dated 29 June 1587 demanding Marlowe's degree. It is followed by a typescript prepared by Peter Farey. "Whereas it was reported that Christopher Morley was determined to have gone beyond the seas to Reames and there to remaine, Their L(ordship)s thought good to certefie that he had no such intent, but that in all his accions he had behaued himself orderlie and discreetelie wherebie he had done her ma(jes)tie good seruice, and deserued to be rewarded for his faithfull dealinge: Their L(ordship)s request was thst the rumor thereof should be allaied by all possible means, and that he should furthered in the degree he was to takethis next Commencement: Because it was not her ma(jes)ties pleasure that anie one employed as he had been in matters touching the benefitt of his Countrie should be defamed by those that are ignorant in th'affaires he went about" Peter reminds us, "This had been signed by the 'Lord Archbishop' (Whitgift), 'Lord Chancelor' (Hatton), 'Lord Threasurer' (Burghley), 'Lord Chamberlaine' (Hunsdon) and 'Mr Comptroler' (Crofts'. It is worth remembering that Lord Burghley was also Chancellor of the University!"
Marlowe is believed to have died, from being stabbed in the face on 30 May 1593, however there is considerable evidence this death was faked. In the following scan is the church record in Deptford, Kent for a burial on 1 June 1593 said to have been his. Curiously no gravestone, let alone, monument, to Marlowe, already the realm's most gifted poet and dramatist, was placed by any of his my powerful friends and patrons.
