"These windows don't open
for a reason." is a memorable phrase spoken often by one of my coworkers in times of excessive stress as she stares out our third story window. I've never thought much of it. But, the last couple months at work have been pushing me closer to the edge. I'm gonna crack soon if I don't get the hell out of there. So, I've decided to start looking for a job now . I had planned to wait until I'd completed this editing course and taken a vacation. No more excuses. So, if you hear of an entry level position in the publishing field, let me know. Stephanie L. Kwolek
As Stephanie got older, in high school and college, she wanted to have a career in the medical field. Financially, he could not afford it at the time, so she interviewed for research jobs to make the money to go to medical school. Stephanie graduated from Carnegie Institution of Technology with a chemist degree and was hired with the Dupont Company in 1946. This was only a temporary job for Stephanie until she made enough money to get through medical school. She soon got promoted within the Dupont Company, which became her lifetime career. "I think one of the reasons I've stayed so long is that back in 1946, women were only able to work in the laboratories for a few years, then they'd get pushed into so called women's jobs. I had something to prove and also the work was very interesting". Stephanie Kwolek's job at Dupont was working in the lab making long molecules called polymers that can be made into fabric or plastics. Stephanie was always ready for a new challenge. In 1964, her supervisor had asked her and her coworkers to search for new high performance fibers. During one of her experiments to find a new synthetic fiber, Stephanie was experimenting with two polymers that just would not melt. The mixture of the solvent and polymers was cloudy instead of clear. She had these new polymers tested and to her amazement she had just invented a new polymer. She had discovered a new fiber, called an aramid fiber, and a new type of substance, called liquid crystalline solution Stephanie Kwolek had discovered Kevlar.

Stephanie's Survivor Story Stephanie's father, Terrill Sebastian, has written a wonderful tribute to Stephanie and her experience called A Purple Heart for Stephanie which he created from daily journal entries he made throughout his daughter's near-fatal bout with NF. The courage of this beautiful little girl, as well as the faith, love, and determination of her parents springs from every page of this tribute. To help other parents of child-victims of NF, Terrill has agreed to share his very personal story. If you would like a copy, please email Terrill at tsebcsstn@juno.com THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS Three days before she turned 7 on February 11, Stephanie came home with chickenpox. Covered from head to toe with itchy lesions, she developed a typical chickenpox symptom - high fever - and a not-so-typical symptom - stomach pains. "My stomach hurts all over," she told me. Thinking this was constipation, I took her to the bathroom where I found two purple patches on her lower abdomen - one softball size. A blood blister had formed under there and the top layer of skin had come off. I called her mom, " Ann, we've got a serious problem here." The patches began to grow as we watched them. We whisked Stephanie to the hospital, where doctors started IV antibiotics and admitted her to monitor her condition. Stephanie's patches grew together. Her blood pressure plummeted and her pulse skyrocketed, all of which are signs of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome.

E-Mail the Author Stephanie Nadolny - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - March 16, 2003 One of the fascinating things about anime is that the character counts more than the gender in voice acting, where Stephanie Nadolny performs boys' roles. The Texan does more than play boys; she's an accomplished singer who has graced many stages and clubs with name of her group and link. But Nadolny's big break into the world of anime fandom came when Funimation moved production of the Dragon Ball dubs to Texas, and she was given the roles of Goku and teen Gokan. Those characters are almost too active for their own good - as was Nadolny once when dubbing the role. "Goku took this flying leap and jumped into the water, and I was really into it and I made this noise like I was jumping into the water...I was on the floor cracking up - I had never had done this before. The director said `There's no need to make the sound effects.'" A careful observer A dynamic fighter With Hebert in Texas Demonstrating her craft
