Which commercial icon can corrupt the most sixth graders?
http://www.grudge-match.com/History/joe-spuds.shtml
World Wide Web Fights presents
WWWF GRUDGE MATCH
The Setting
The playground. 2:00 pm. 99 sixth-graders scramble outside for recess. A small fire starts in the cafeteria and all the teachers, unaware it was a planned diversion, run in to help. Meanwhile, back in the schoolyard... a bull terrier struggles in through the gate from the street, dragging in his teeth the handle to a wagon full of ice-cold Bud Light. He lets the wagon come to a stop, he shifts around inside his Hawaiian shirt, and turns to the crowd of children and wags his tongue invitingly at them. But today, the dog's got some competition. From the other side of the playground, a tall, cool, swinging fellow in a trenchcoat slides his way into view. He peers out one corner of his shades, and then out the other, making sure there are no teachers in sight, and then he opens up his coat, the inside of which is lined with packs upon packs of a wide variety of cigarettes and complimentary Zippo (tm) lighters. The end-of-recess bell will ring in twenty minutes. Just enough time for a youngster to work down their first beer... OR to have their first cigarette (including the time spent coughing). But no kid can have both. Two advertising legends of the sin industry stand opposite one another, prepared to fight to the death for this fresh new market, and with an odd number of kids and since no child will be able to resist, there can be no tie. So, Steve, who wins in the battle to corrupt America's youth?

    at the Senate
    July 11, 1895
per se Citizen of this city, neither am I responsible for what has appeared in the Hamilton Spectator . If he has been a constant reader of the Hamilton Spectator , he must know that although it is a strong Conservative paper, it is one of those journals that has always taken a decided position against interference with Manitoba, particularly upon this question. It is a paper perfectly independent of the government and of any but those who support it. Taking that view of it, I find a letter was written by one of the leaders of the Liberal party whether with the consent of my hon. Friend opposite me and consent of his leader in the House I am not prepared to say written by the hon. Member for L'Islet and published in a Quebec newspaper on this very question. We know if there is one man more than another in the province of Quebec who has expressed more frequent and extreme views upon this question than another, it is Mr. Tarte, the first lieutenant of Mr. Laurier in the Lower House. In dealing with this question he uses this language :
There is not in the whole Canadian following a man of any standing who is not aware that it is impossible under the present state of things to force Manitoba to submit to an educational law adopted by the federal power. Such a law can be enacted. It will not be enforced. It cannot be enforced if Manitoba resists, and unfortunately there can be no doubt as to that resistance.

Grave Sites of Canadian Prime Ministers
Born on December 27, 1823, Rickinghall,
    Suffolk, England
Died on December 10, 1917, Belleville, Ontario
Buried at Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Ontario NAC PA-27160 Mackenzie Bowell's family emigrated from England to Belleville, Ontario, where he apprenticed on the local newspaper. He became a successful printer and pub- lisher and a prominent figure in the Orange Order, which made him Canadian grand- master in 1870. Elected to the House of Commons in 1867, Bowell joined the Conservative cabinet in 1878. A competent, hardworking administrator, Bowell remained in cabinet when he became a senator in 1892. His visit to Australia in 1893 led to the first conference of British colonies and territories, held in Ottawa in 1894. As the government's most senior minister, Bowell became prime minister when Sir John Thompson died suddenly in December 1894. In office, Bowell struggled with dissent in his party. When seven cabinet ministers deserted him early in 1896, Bowell denounced them as "a nest of traitors." They soon returned but, with elections looming, Bowell agreed to retire.
