The problem with the left's plan for duplicating the achievements of conservative media.

NEXT WEEK, Air America Radio debuts its around-the-clock radio station of the left. Al Franken will play the marquee role, filling the noon-to-3:00 p.m. slot. Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead will run the morning program with Public Enemy rapper Chuck D. And comedienne Janeane Garofalo will be punching the clock at 8:00 p.m. Opening Day is March 31. Which raises a good question: Why don't they just wait 24 hours and do the launch on April Fool's Day? Suddenly the idea that liberals can have a successful talk-radio franchise has become something other than a joke. It's hard to say why, but in the accumulated success of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, the left sees a mirror-image of what conservatives call liberal media bias. It's not the same thing, of course, but persecution envy has set in, and now various influential and/or rich liberals want their own vibrant alternative media and legions of devoted fans. The left wants dittoheads, and bad. Aside from the obvious problem with this scenario (the left already dominates the networks, NPR, CNN, Hollywood, and so on), there are several ways in which the basic idea doesn't add up.

OAS_AD('Top'); ACLU Comes to Rush Limbaugh's Defense Monday, January 12, 2004 By Catherine Donaldson-Evans Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh search American Civil Liberties Union search OAS_AD('Middle'); But the privacy rights group was on his side Monday when its Florida branch filed a "friend-of-court" motion on behalf of Limbaugh arguing state officials were wrong in seizing his medical records for their drug probe. "For many people, it may seem odd that the ACLU has come to the defense of Rush Limbaugh," ACLU of Florida Executive Director Howard Simon said in a released statement. "But we have always said that the ACLU's real client is the Bill of Rights, and we will continue to safeguard the values of equality, fairness and privacy for everyone, regardless of race, economic status or political point of view," Simon said. The ACLU contends that state law enforcement officers violated Limbaugh's privacy rights by taking possession of his medical records as part of their criminal investigation into the commentator's alleged "doctor-shopping" to feed his prescription-drug addiction. "While this case involves the right of Rush Limbaugh to maintain the privacy of his medical records, the precedent set in this case will impact the security of medical records and the privacy of the doctor-patient relationship of every person in Florida," Simon said in his statement.

or, Why I Am a Dittohead
This page was last modified on 20 October 2002. All "dittoheads" remember the first time they experienced Rush Limbaugh. For conservatives, it was very exciting and extremely pleasurable; the exhilaration of finally hearing someone in the media validate one's views and beliefs was almost unbearable. For others (leftists if you will, contrary to whatever euphemism they choose to hide behind), it was bitter, painful, and disillusioning; the humiliation of hearing someone in the media skillfully and gleefully slaughter each of one's sacred cows was equally almost unbearable. I suppose one could say that the experience is somewhat like losing one's sexual virginity. Though I wouldn't have called myself a conservative at the time, and certainly not a Republican, my "deflowering" was a most memorable and pleasant experience. I was an activated Reservist assigned to the Personnel Division of Ft. Bragg's Womack Army Community Hospital during the Gulf War. On Fridays, the section would go into Fayetteville for lunch. I always rode with one of the civilian employees, Ralph Jenkins. Ralph was a retired Personnel Services sergeant major. He was a short, scrawny, little middle-aged man with the quirky, touched-in-the-head sense of humor common among sergeants major. He first served as an artilleryman during the Korean War. His unit had completed its tour and was getting some rest and recreation in Japan. In the course of a typically drunken GI party, Ralph's boot had undue contact with his battery commander's teeth in a stairwell. Ralph was given a choice: court-martial or another tour in Korea as an infantryman. Ralph figured his lot in life would be much better if he took his chances with the Red Chinese. After surviving Korea, he decided to pursue a military career and got retrained in Personnel Services. After retiring from the Army, he got the civilian position.

Rush Limbaugh
A fair number of Independents could be lured in, or back to, the Democratic Party. For me, a litmus test for that would have to be confronting the Drug War, and as I see the media and the Democratic presidential contenders both taking a huge whiff on the opportunity the Rush Limbaugh story provides, I am not encouraged. For many years, I've been asked 'why do you read the Enquirer?' and have always said, "because I want to know what's going to be in the New York Times next week." So, a week after I read the Limbaugh story in the Enquirer I read the rehash of it today in the Times, and again: Media, Pols, hello! If any time was the perfect time to make the case about the massive double standard that is the Drug War, this is it. Rush tearfully talks about his addition to a "medication." Yeah, well everybody likes their "medication" in different forms, pally. It would be funny, but substantially the same thing, if on the 6:30 news they sold bourbon and had the voice intone, "Ask your doctor if Jack Daniels is right for you." Or pot or whatever it is that mixes better with your body chemistry. Because that's all the Drug War is, persecuting people with a different body chemistry than Plan A. Why does one person like scotch, and another loathes it and likes vodka? Or one like cocaine, and another Metabolife?

Printer version Discuss Now Rush Limbaugh Draws Fire for Racial Remark About Black Quarterbacks By Ed Wiley III, BET.com Staff Writer Posted September 30, 2003 Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh, now an NFL analyst for ESPN, is again in the hot seat for racially offensive statements. Monday Night Football Philadelphia Inquirer , Phil Sheridan, a White sports columnist, took Limbaugh and his network to task. Limbaugh isn’t the first White football analyst to draw fire for insensitive comments. In 1988, CBS commentator Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder suggested that Black athletes excelled because they were bred by slave masters to be strong. “The slave owner would breed this big Black with this big Black woman so he could have a big Black kid,” Snyder told a reporter. That's where it all started." Snyder was fired shortly afterward. In 1983, during a broadcast of

Rush Was Right, Of Course. But Why?
By Steve Sailer So Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his ESPN football pregame gig for telling the truth about the media overrating Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb This is what Limbaugh said about McNabb: "I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team." And these are some of the ritual expressions of horror.
