Adler, an orthodox Jew, was 87-years-old at the time of his death. Born in Baltimore in 1914, Adler was a musical prodigy who worked with the world's top musicians during his 70-year career. Adler, who entertained US troops in Africa, the Middle East, and the South Pacific during World War II, insisted on a non-segregation policy between white and black audience members. Adler fled to Britain in the 1950s after being targeted as a communist during the McCarthy witch hunt.

Connecticut Yankee enters King Larry's Court
By Ashlee Vance in San Francisco Published Wednesday 18th June 2003 21:24 GMT Connecticut's Attorney General plans to file suit against Oracle on Wednesday, charging that a takeover of PeopleSoft would cost the state millions. Connecticut happens to be a PeopleSoft customer. The state signed a large, five-year deal with the software maker in 2002 - part of a $100 million computer system upgrade. A takeover of PeopleSoft by Oracle would cause an "enormous and expensive upheaval" to the upgrade process, according to Nancy Wyman, Connecticut's state Comptroller. Oracle today was generous enough to raise its bid for PeopleSoft to $6.3 billion up from the low-ball $5.1 billion first offered. Ellison, however, is not budging when it comes to the future of PeopleSoft applications. They are out. Oracle is in.

International Edition MEMBER SERVICES The Web CNN.com Home World U.S. Weather ... Contact Us CNN Programs Larry King Celebrating his 45th year in broadcasting in 2002, CNN's Larry King is the host of the network's Larry King Live , the first worldwide phone-in television talk show and the network's highest-rated program. The Emmy Award-winning King and author of multiple books has been dubbed "the most remarkable talk-show host on TV ever" by TV Guide and "master of the mike" by TIME Magazine. Larry King Live debuted on CNN in June 1985 with its now famous mix of celebrity interviews, political debates and topical discussions. Telecast each weeknight at 9 p.m. (ET), the program also features phone calls from viewers around the world. CNN's Larry King Weekend airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m. and offers in-depth profiles and career retrospectives of news and entertainment figures. In June 1994, King created the first daily radio/TV talk show by simulcasting CNN's Larry King Live on Mutual/Westwood One radio stations nationwide. King has been asking famous people questions throughout his career, having accumulated more than 40,000 interviews, including every U.S. president since the Ford administration. King's famed NAFTA debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot in 1993 broke cable industry ratings records (outside of the first night of Gulf War coverage) and obtained the highest rating in CNN historyreaching more than 16.3 million viewers. In 1995, King showcased his extraordinary skill in international diplomacy when he hosted a historic hour on the Middle East Peace process with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, King Hussein of Jordan and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. King's award-winning jailhouse interviews include: convicted murderers Sante Kimes and her son, Kenneth; Karla Faye Tucker, the first woman to be executed in Texas; and Mike Tyson.

09/23/2001 - Updated 10:33 PM ET A New York boy pays tribute, bids farewell By Larry King, USA TODAY I have always told everyone I know that I consider one of the luckiest aspects of my life to have been raised in New York City, specifically Brooklyn. Lucky that my father and mother made it over here from Eastern Europe and then selected New York as a place of residence. There is an old saying that you can take the boy out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the boy. I have never felt closer to the place of my birth than in the past two weeks. As Rudy Giuliani, its stalwart mayor, said to me last week: "Larry, we're both from Brooklyn. We're both New Yorkers. Nothing about the way this city reacted surprised us." How true. New Yorkers may be brash, they can be curt, but when the chips are down, when strife is around us, New Yorkers are always there. It was New York that got me my first pair of glasses. My father had died, and my mother had two little boys to raise, so for a short period of time, we were on what was then called relief. (Now it's welfare. Same thing.) My mom couldn't go to work, my eyes were going bad, New York helped. During the early days of the Cold War, it taught me civil defense. Its police seemed always to be around when you needed them, its firemen on call in a New York second, its resources bountiful. I remember the night before my heart surgery, looking down the East River from my room at New York Hospital, and while scared, I was confident at the same time that I was in the right place. I know the city gets knocked around a lot, but I don't know anybody who doesn't feel like a New Yorker today. Ernest Hemingway once said that the definition of guts is grace under pressure. New York is one gutsy town.

Larry King Mugshot
mugshots.org Arrested in Miami on December 20, 1971 on charges of grand larceny, Larry King was in debt to sustain an extravagant lifestyle among other things. There is a connection here to the Kennedy Assassination, as the debt which prompted this arrest was apparently regarding a loan to a financial backer of Jim Garrison. Garrison was the Louisiana district attorney quasi-offically investigating Kennedy's death. Larry King is the cable TV talkshow host of CNN's "Larry King Live".

THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. LARRY KING, HOST: Tonight, John Edward, TV's hottest psychic phenomenon. He says he knows what happens after life. Can he contact someone you love who's crossed over to the other side? John Edward is here for the hour. He takes your phone calls. He's next on LARRY KING LIVE.
He is the internationally known psychic medium, the host of the very successful syndicated series "Crossing Over With John Edwards," and his new book, "After Life: Answers From the Other Side" there you see its cover debuted at no. 4 on "The New York Times" best- seller list.
John Edward just a quick note asked me to write the foreword to this book. I don't know why, but he did, and he said, Write anything you want. I'll just read something quickly from the beginning of it. I said, "John Edward certainly is one of the most extraordinary people I've ever known or interviewed. He's appeared on my show many, many times, and to say the least, provides fascinating TV. I'm a pure agnostic. That is, I don't know if there's a God or not. I don't know if there are other universes or not. And I certainly don't know if there's some sort of life after death. I'll admit John often provides insights into the departed that are not explainable. I don't know if he's seeing or hearing from the departed or if he's tuning into the viewer's vision of the departed. I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as psychic phenomena. However, I cannot deny that John Edward often amazes me."

KING, LARRY U.S. Talk Show Host Larry King, television and radio talk show host, claims to have interviewed over 30,000 people during his career. In 1989, the Guinness Book of World Records credited him as having logged more hours on national radio than any other talk show personality in history. His nationwide popularity began with his first national radio talk show, premiering over the Mutual Network in 1978. In 1985, the Cable News Network (CNN) scheduled a nightly one hour cable-tv version of King's radio program. Larry King Live became one of CNN's highest-rated shows and positioned King as the first American talk show host to have a worldwide audience. Currently, the program reaches over 200 countries with a potential audience of 150 million. Called cable television's pre-eminent pop-journalist, King is characterized as "interviewer," not "journalist." Described as having an "aw shucks" quality, he is an ad-lib interviewer who claims not to over-prepare for his guest. "My lack of preparation really forces me to learn, and to listen." His guests are given a wide range of latitude while responding to questions that any person on the street might ask. Rather than acting as an investigative reporter, King prides himself in asking "human questions," not "press-conference questions." He sees himself as non-threatening, non-judgmental, and concerned with feelings.
