John Fitzgerald Kennedy
American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1917-1963 Among his many distinctions as President of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy remains the youngest man ever elected to the office of Chief Executive, and the youngest man to die while still fulfilling his duties. Serving as America's President, John F. Kennedy held his office for 1,000 days, dying November 22nd, 1963, assassinated at the age of 46. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts, the 2nd son of 9 children of the affluent, Roman Catholic Kennedy Family. Kennedy's father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy was a self-improving multi-millionaire who had built a financial empire through ventures in banking, the stock market, ship building and the motion picture industry and liquor distribution. Kennedy's mother, Rose Fitzgerald was of Irish ancestry like her husband, and daughter of former Boston mayor John F. Fitzgerald. As family patriarch Joseph Kennedy was a hard task master who pushed his children to achieve and often pitted them against one another competitively. John Kennedy's childhood was one spent at exclusive private schools, including Canturbury School of New Milford, CT and preparatory school at Choate Hall in Wallingford, CT. At the age of 18 John Kennedy spent a year at the London School of Economics while Joseph Kennedy served as the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. Kennedy returned to America to attend Princeton University, but left during his freshman term due to a case of severe jaundice. His illness may have been caused by a condition the Kennedy family kept secret throughout his life: John Kennedy was of the 1 in 100,000 people afflicted with

Physical Stature: 6 feet
State of Birth: Massachusetts
"John F. Kennedy was born into one of the wealthiest families in the USA. On his 21st birthday he was given $1 million by his father. One million dollars is a big deal now ... it was worth even more in 1938! Called "Jack" by close friends and family, JFK love athletics. He and his brothers played football, tennis, and golf. He loved to sail and swim. Unfortunately, later in life his health would prevent him from enjoying these pursuits as he would wish. In one of the closest elections in US history ... though not the closest ... JFK defeated his opponent Richard M. Nixon. They were the first Presidential candidates to debate each other on television. JFK's good looks, charm, and easy manner helped him to get many votes even though Nixon had more experience and had had to work for everything he had gained up to that point without the help of a rich and powerful family.

1961: John F. Kennedy ... Presidential Medal of Freedom Tribute to Jackie Kennedy There was always something going on in the Kennedy family home. By the time Jack was eight there were seven children altogether. Jack had an older brother, Joe; four sisters, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, and Patricia; and a younger brother, Robert. Jean and Teddy hadn’t been born yet. Nannies and housekeepers helped Rose run the household. Jack graduated from Choate and in 1936 he started his first year at Harvard, where Joe was already a student. Like his brother Joe, Jack played football. He was not as good of an athlete as Joe but he had a lot of determination and perseverance. Unfortunately, one day while playing he ruptured a disk in his spine. Jack never really recovered from this accident and his back continued to bother him for the rest of his life. Joe and Jack frequently received letters from their father in England, who informed them of the latest news regarding the conflicts and tensions that everyone feared would soon blow up into a full-scale war. Adolph Hitler ruled Germany and Benito Mussolini ruled Italy. They both had strong armies and wanted to take land from other countries. On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland and World War II began.

Kennedy, John Fitzgerald (1917-1963), 35th president of the United States (1961-1963), was admitted to Princeton in 1935, as a member of the Class of 1939. He fell ill with jaundice in London that summer and did not matriculate until October 26, 1935, a month after college opened, and withdrew on December 12, 1935, because of a recurrence of jaundice. He later entered Harvard from which he graduated cum laude in 1940. While at Princeton he roomed in 9 South Reunion with Kirk LeMoyne Billings '39 and Ralph Horton, Jr. '39. Reunion Hall, condemned as a fire hazard, was torn down in 1965. Bricks from the fireplace in their living room, rescued by his classmates, frame a bronze plaque about him in the south entry of the Class of 1939 Dormitory. In his application for admission he wrote: ``To be a Princeton Man is indeed an enviable distinction.'' Go to Search A Princeton Companion

For those of us who remember the tragic death of his father, the death of his namesake is too painful to conceive.
When John Kennedy was killed, our nation lost it's innocence and it's way. When Bobby died, our last hope of reconciliationdied with him. And now with John Jr, what might be will never be known. In the days ahead we must pray for our country in hopes that one day the dream will come alive once more.
Dan A. Townsend
"When he shall die, take him and cut him into little stars. And he will make the face of heaven so fine, that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun."
These words spoken by Robert Kennedy about the death of his brother John apply to John F. Kennedy Jr. as well.

From youngest to oldest they are: Jean, Robert, Patricia, Eunice, Kathleen, Rosemary, Jack, and Joe, Jr. In all, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy would have nine children, four boys and five girls. She kept notecards for each of them in a small wooden file box and made a point of writing down everything from a doctor’s visit to the shoe size they had at a particular age. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was named in honor of Rose’s father, John Francis Fitzgerald the popular Boston Mayor who everybody knew as Honey Fitz. Before long, family and friends called this small blue-eyed baby, Jack. Jack was not a very healthy baby and on his notecard Rose also recorded the childhood diseases he suffered from : ‘whooping cough, measles, chicken pox’. On February 20, 1920 when Jack was not yet three years old, he became sick with scarlet fever, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease. His father
