Contact Michael Dennehy from Kilbrin finished off a distinguished Under-age and Junior cycling career in October 2000, with his second appearance for the Irish team in the World Junior Cycling Championships in Plouray, Brittany. Few riders can match his record. At under-age level, from the age of twelve to sixteen, Michael won no less than seven All-Ireland individual and team medals. In his final year as an U-16, he won a stage at the International Youth Tour in Manchester and came third overall in his first International event. His Junior career got off to a spectacular start when he won the All-Ireland road race in 1999 and later went on to represent Ireland at the Word Championships, along with three other team-mates from Kanturk Credit Union Cycling Club. He also had a second and third placing in Junior Tour of Ireland stage ends. He was pipped into second place in the Junior All-Ireland this year by a French-based rider, and went on to win stages of the Senior three-day events at Gorey and Dunboyne. In the Junior Tour of Ireland, he fought off the challenges of the English, Dutch and French climbers and clenched the "King of the Hills" jersey in Wicklow mountains.

JUNIOR FANCIERS Michael Wilkinson Michael is fifteen years old and lives near Barnard Castle, North Yorkshire, England. Michael specialises in Plymouth Rocks, keeping Buff, Barred, Silver Pencilled, and Partridge bantams and Barred Large Fowl. Although he competes in the Juvenile classes, Michael shows predominantly in the open classes against adult exhibitors and has captured some notable prizes. He attended his first National Championship Show in 1998 and won the fiercely competitive Buff Plymouth Rock Pullet class against adult exhibitors and also Champion Juvenile Plymouth Rock. Michael is admired by all who know him for the standard to which he prepares his exhibits, his excellent stockmanship and husbandry skills, and his fierce determination to compete. "I've been keeping and showing poultry for about six years now, and Plymouth Rocks are the only breed I keep. I did have Rhode Island Reds when I first started, but decided to concentrate on only one breed. I think it is important for any serious breeder to specialise in one or two breeds only, so that you can breed many and select only the best. This is something I have learnt from some of the people who have helped me - my Dad, and Plymouth Rock people like Clive Carefoot, Maurice Metcalf, and Tom Newbould. I went to my first National Championship Show last year (98) at Stoneleigh. It was everything I expected and I was very glad I went. It's like a massive version of a big show and I would recommend that any junior fancier shows or at least attends. There's nothing to be afraid of - the people are the same, though you do meet a lot of new people. I really learnt a lot over that weekend because you have the time to look at the birds carefully and can ask as many questions as you want because so many people are there. I also took my judging test for Plymouth Rocks at the show which I passed. This seemed like the next step and I hope to take more in the future.

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is thinking about launching a 'junior junior' stock exchange. This would provide a home for those companies that no longer meet the listing criteria for the nascent TSX-Venture Exchange (TSX-V). Many companies got onto the TSX-V with so-called "Tier-3" status. This was done to accommodate those that moved over from the "unlisted" market, previously referred to as the CDN when the TSX-V (the former CDNX) was created from the merger of the Alberta Vancouver , and CDN markets. Stock exchanges are like clubs. The holy grail for technology companies is to be listed on Nasdaq . Like clubs, stock exchanges have different admittance criteria and, as such, companies that belong to them enjoy a certain status. Continued listing standards are generally lower than those required for initial entry. When companies fail to adhere to these, they risk expulsion. This is what’s happening now on Nasdaq which is faced with having to deal with many companies that have fallen from grace.

XXIV AAU Junior Olympics and USA National Junior Championships Orlando, Florida August 3-5, 2000 By Richard McAfee Traditionally, the Junior Olympics have been the proving ground for America’s next generation of Olympic Athletes. This year, more than 14,000 young people met in venues located around the Orlando area to compete in 26 different sports. Many of these athletes and their parents were treated to a taste of table tennis during the Opening Ceremonies at the Orlando Arena. Eight juniors from Georgia gave an exhibition of multiball training at the beginning of the show that drew large applause from the amazed spectators. This was the first time table tennis was included in the Opening Ceremonies. From the response of the audience, it will not be the last. The table tennis competition attracted one hundred and thirteen competitors from eleven states. Hats off to Maryland, Florida, and Georgia, which each brought more than twenty athletes. New Jersey with twelve athletes and Puerto Rico with nine athletes also made a major impact on the competition. The table tennis competition was held on the campus of the University of Central Florida, over a three-day period. Competition was held on sixteen individually-barriered tables with four practice tables in an adjacent room. A special Thank You goes out to Butterfly who sponsored the event, and provided the tables, barriers, and balls.

Although father Rolf was not enthusiastic about his son's expensive kart ambitions, the boy was able to pursue his career because from time to time he received financial support from local sponsors. Rolf had built his first kart and registered him in the Kart-Club Kerpen-Horrem. His enthusiasm for kart-driving continued to grow. In 1980, the members of the Kerpen kart club built a new track in Manheim, a suburb of Kerpen. Michael and his brother Ralf spent every free minute there. Michael was still too young for championship races and he had to wait until 1983 for his German kart licence. In 1984, he promptly became German Junior Champion. In 1985 he won the German Junior Championships again and also came second in the Junior World Championships in Le Mans. In 1986 he took part in the German Senior Kart Championships for the first time, and at his very first attempt came third in the final rankings. The same thing happened at the European Senior Championships. In 1987 he had his greatest triumph yet, Michael Schumacher won both the German and the European Senior Kart Championships.
