THE JAMES-YOUNGER GANG
I have a bit of interest in Jesse James for three reasons:
* My family is from Northwest Missouri
* My Great-grand father told me about the time he met Cole Younger, in St. Joe, after Cole got out of prison. My Great-grand father died two months shy of his 105th birthday.
* Everywhere I go I seem to run across places that a Jesse James event took place.
THE BANK IN LIBERTY, MISSOURI
My dad MERAMEC CAVERN, STANTON, MISSOURI
Meramec Cavern:
Local legend has itI that during the Civil War, a Federal powder mill in the cave was blown up by Confederate guerrillas of whom Jesse James was a member. Local legend also says in the early 1870's, Jesse James and his band returned to the Cavern on numerous occasions because it afforded a complete hideout for men and horses after train and bank robberies.
THE BANK IN NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA
The raid on this bank was pretty much the end of the James-Younger Gang.

Scribe's Tribute to
Jesse James Scribe's next favorite outlaw is Jesse James, who rode with his brother, Frank, and many others who came away from the Civil War with a bitter taste in their mouths and no way to make a real living. Although Jesse, like Billy the Kid, was known as a murderer and a no-good thief, Jesse was also known as a sort-of "Robin Hood of the West" for his habit of "taking from the rich and giving to the poor."
Carolinda, Illinois 1872 Once again, those who lived and experienced the actual events that occurred in Jesse's life are perhaps the best judges of the outlaw whose death has created as much controversy as his life.

JESSE JAMES
(trad.) (1800s)
In the backwash of the Civil War , the western plains provided a stage for a breed of men who had learned to live by the gun. For many, like Frank and Jesse James, their training ground was that savage band of looters and marauders who traveled under the Confederate flag and went by the name of "Quantrill's Raiders." When the war was over, Frank and Jesse James went into business for themselves. For fifteen years the notorious James brothers reigned as the scourge of Kansas and Missouri. Jesse James, the younger of the two, became the colorful mastermind and daring desperado. "He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor," they sang in later years.... And the folklore was based on fact. There wasn't much point to stealing from the poor. Not unless you could work out a system the way the landlords did. And Jesse undoubtedly gave to the poor, and won loyalty, safety and shelter in times of need. To the hard-pressed plains farmers of the 1870's, Jesse James indeed may have appeared as the agent of destiny's vengeance. The outlaw's victims were usually those twin traducers of the farmers' labor and land the railroads and the banks. In April of 1882, Jesse James was murdered.... With Jesse's death (shot in the back of the head, unarmed, by a man he trusted as a friend), the legend was complete.... All that was needed in order to enshrine the legend permanently was a ballad. Within a short time after Jesse's death, an otherwise unknown minstrel by the name of Billy Gashade created the ballad which has come to be Jesse James' lasting epitaph....

Jesse Woodson James September 5 April 3 ), American outlaw, was born in Kearney, Missouri . His father, Robert James, was a Baptist minister who helped found William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri At seventeen, James left his native Missouri to fight as a Confederate guerilla in the American Civil War as part of Quantrill's Raiders , participating in raids in Kansas . He once killed eight men in a single day. After the war, he returned to his home state and lead one of history's most notorious outlaw gangs. He was wounded while surrendering at the end of the war, and later claimed to have been forced into outlawry because his family had been persecuted in the war. With his brother Frank James and several other ex-Confederates, including Cole Younger and his brothers, the James gang robbed their way across the Western frontier targeting banks, trains, stagecoaches, and stores from Iowa to Texas . Eluding even the Pinkerton National Detective Agency , the gang escaped with thousands of dollars. James is believed to have carried out the first daylight bank robbery in peacetime, stealing $60,000 from a bank in Liberty, Missouri.

Francena bubbles with the enthusiasm of a religious zealot as she earnestly explains that jesse james wasn t really shot to death in 1882 — he died of old
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/MOSTAjesse.html
Stanton, Missouri
T his small attraction lies just off the I-44 Stanton exit. Its owner and cheerleader, Francena Turilli, carries on the legacy of her late husband, Rudy, who built the place more than 35 years ago. Francena bubbles with the enthusiasm of a religious zealot as she earnestly explains that Jesse James wasn't really shot to death in 1882 Granbury, TX ! It is this startling revelation upon which the museum focuses. Only in the "show me" state could such skepticism about "official history" find fruit. Recent DNA tests on exhumed remains from his "grave" in Kearney, MO, and the House Where Jesse James Was Murdered in St. Joseph, MO, strongly argue that Jesse went down from a bullet shot by Robert Ford in 1882. The famous bullet hole in the wall had to be covered with Plexiglas to halt the eager, digging fingers of souvenir hunters... Francena doesn't buy a word of it. As we listen to her compelling fact-filled explanation, Francena hands around what she claims is Jesse's six-shooter to eager kids and baffled adults. With a pointer, she compares photos, mounted over the T-shirt bins, of the 19th and the (supposedly) 20th century Jesses, especially the shapes of their ears. "See? They're identical!" she cries, triumphant. A list of additional physical similarities is suddenly at her fingertips and in front of our faces. The list of scars and deformities is for our benefit, she knows them all by heart. Even the most brickheaded visitor quickly realizes that revisionist history is the name of the game at the Jesse James Museum, which features a walk around wax depictions of Jesse's premature-death conspirators. As long as you pay admission, whether or not you believe is irrelevant.

    Talking with Jesse James Garrett
by Erin Malone Congratulations on the new book. You must be excited to be finished and have the work out there for the community to learn from. JJG: I’m very gratified by the reception people have given the book so far. The initial feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. Also, if nothing else, writing this book has really changed the way I experience bookstores. I have a whole different appreciation for the amount of work packed into even the slimmest volume on the shelves. JJG: What are you trying to communicate with the book that is different from the original diagram? JJG: Who is your primary audience for the book? Once they finish that book, what do they read to learn more? JJG: I’ve got two main audiences in mind for the book: newcomers to the field, those who may have web design or development skills who want to know how to bring a user-centered approach to their work; and decision-makers, the people who have to decipher what the heck these web people are talking about. Each of the main chapters has a list of additional books for those who want more detail on a particular topic. In addition, I’m putting together a resource page at jjg.net/elements/resources

Jesse James at Greenville.
Jesse James is a famous outlaw of the Wild West. During the American Civil War, at age 15, he became a guerrilla, joining William Quantrill's Raiders in attacks against Union supporters and troops. After the war ended, James and his brother united with fellow Raiders Cole, Bob and Jim Younger in a life of crime. Despite killing a number of men, in films and books James is often portrayed as an outlaw hero, robbing only from rich banks and train companies.

98. The Truth About Jesse James
newspaper article stated, The doctor who examined the body told jesse s son that the corpse was not that of jesse james because jesse james had conjunctivitis
http://www.granburytx.com/docs/truth.htm
The Truth about Jesse James By Craig Williams T he legend of Jesse James does not mention his most extraordinary featthat he staged his own death. According to Bud Hardcastle (a Jesse James historian) and Granbury residents, this definitely is the case Jesse James led the life of a Confederate hero while riding with Quantrill's Raiders and robbing trains. Then, some say, Bob Ford, a former friend, took his life by gunshot in April of 1882 in Missouri. In the early 1900's, however, J. Frank Dalton traveled from town to town and claimed to be the real Jesse James. The man who claimed to be Jesse James died at the age of 103 and is now buried in Granbury, Texas. The questions that are unanswered are: Who is buried in Missouri, if not Jesse James, and why would the real Jesse James come to Granbury? Hardcastle is probably one of the few people who can answer all the questions. Stories of Jesse and Frank James' escapades in Oklahoma and Texas were numerous, but they were unproved. Bud Hardcastle considered this a challenge and has been hot on the trail of the truth for fifteen years. Hardcastle answered the first question this way. "If you were Jesse James (or if you are yourself and the law is wanting you) and you had a chance to fake your death and have the law stop hunting youwould you fake your death?

100. Jesse And Frank James In The Far West
Chapter Thirteen from The Life, Times, and Treacherous Death of jesse james (1882). by Frank Triplett jesse james and gang member.
http://www.wildwestweb.net/jesseincal.html
This account of the James brothers' adventures in the far West certainly reads like fiction, but the story is an interesting read nonetheless.
Chapter XIII of
The Life, Times, and Treacherous Death of Jesse James (1882)
by Frank Triplett
Very soon after the Russellville robbery it was that Jesse started for California. He had in some measure recruited his health and strength through the care and kind nursing of his Kentucky friends, but still had a terrible cough accompanied by hectic fever. Journeying to New York by easy stages so as not to overtax his strength, he reached there with every probability of safely making the voyage to the golden shores of the Pacific Slope. Resting a few days before taking passage, he took in the principal objects of interest in the great city; and it speaks well for the natural character of the man that his visits were oftener to the libraries, art museums, et., than to the abodes of gilded vice and sin. Temperate by nature, easy, self-possessed and gentlemanly in his demeanor, his dress was as modest as the man himself, and he would never have been selected, so far as any outward indication went, as a bandit and desperado. In one thing only did he give way to temptation. Like most men of generous impulses, he was a born gambler. His nerve and judgement were both excellent, and in all games of chance he played with great skill. In New York, finding time to hang heavily on his hands, he visited the palatial room of John Chamberlain and made several large winnings.
