    I have made this page for everyone with the JAMES surname. Having the JAMES surname, everyone assumes you are related. It was not an easy thing to do, but after years of hearing the "family traditions", I finally made an effort to prove (or disprove) the traditions. At this time, I have not been able to prove any and have disproved several. I have found many other exciting things about our JAMES line from Missouri. But no direct link to Frank and Jesse's Family. So please don't send your Frank and Jesse queries to me! Add them to the GenConnect Message Board below. Thanks and Good Luck in your quest! I made and posted the JAMES Brother's Gedcom on AOL a couple of years ago. I have posted their family tree below. If you have more JAMES hyperlinks or would like to post your own "JAMES family tradition" or query please contact me ( See James Family Stories ). Good luck in your JAMES quest. Thanks for stopping by!

To guard against his fear of heights and still perform in the act, he invented his "Airwalker Shoes" - which, as their name implies, allowed him to walk on air. However, his aerialist act was not enough, and he turned to crime for a greater thrill. After holding up a few airplanes in mid-flight, he picked Central City as his new base, where he ran afoul of the second Flash and found the thrill he needed in matching wits against his super-speed foe. His trademark (aside from walking on air), has his biting sense of humor and a wide range of dangerous, but harmless-looking gadgets that he would use in his crimes. After that Flash's death, he traveled to Los Angeles, where he fought the Blue Devil several times, until that hero convinced him he could make a fortune in the movie business as a special effects artist. The Trickster became a part-time persona, taking up less and less time, until he saw in the newspaper...

This article is about Jesse James, the outlaw. For the bike builder, see Jesse G. James
Jesse Woodson James September 5 April 3 ), American outlaw, was born in Kearney, Missouri . His father, Robert James, was a Baptist minister who helped found William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri At seventeen, James left his native Missouri to fight as a Confederate guerilla in the American Civil War as part of Quantrill's Raiders , participating in raids in Kansas . He once killed eight men in a single day. After the war, he returned to his home state and lead one of history's most notorious outlaw gangs. He was wounded while surrendering at the end of the war, and later claimed to have been forced into outlawry because his family had been persecuted in the war. With his brother Frank James and several other ex-Confederates, including Cole Younger and his brothers, the James gang robbed their way across the Western frontier targeting banks, trains, stagecoaches, and stores from Iowa to Texas . Eluding even the Pinkerton National Detective Agency , the gang escaped with thousands of dollars. James is believed to have carried out the first daylight bank robbery in peacetime, stealing $60,000 from a bank in Liberty, Missouri.

James Jesse Strang Seeing The Light The "King" of Beaver Island. Home Back The early days
James Jesse Strang was born in New York State in 1813, where he became a member of the Baptist church at the age of twelve, and began study of the law at the age of twenty-one. Marrying his wife Mary, they moved with their three children to Chautauqua County New York, where he worked as a lawyer, Baptist Minister and the County Postmaster. With the loss of his Postmaster position in 1843, he moved his wife and three children to Wisconsin, and the following year again moved to Nauvoo Illinois. While in Nauvoo, Strang met and established a relationship with Joseph Smith, the founder of the fledgling Mormon Church, which was at the time headquartered in Nauvoo. Strang converts to Mormonism
Impressed by Smiths rhetoric and ideals, Strang converted to the Mormon faith. Doubtless, Strang's admiration for Smith must have been mutual, since Strang was baptized within three months, and soon became appointed as an elder of the Church. Not long thereafter, Smith was jailed for destroying the office of a newspaper that had written criticizing articles about he and his Church. While in jail, Smith was assassinated, thereby leaving the Mormon Church without leadership.

Jesse James
(traditional lyrics in italics;
other words by Bob Dyer)
Jesse James was a man who was known throughout the land; he was bold, he was bad but he was brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot down Mr. Howard, has gone and laid poor Jesse in his grave.
Oh, I wonder where my poor old Jesse's gone. (Repeat)
I'm gonna meet him in that land where I´ve never been before. I wonder where my poor old Jesse's gone.
Jesse James and his brother Frank had a Southern mamma and a daddy to thank
For raisin´ them up in that good old Southern way.
It was out on the Kansas and Missouri line back in those dark and dangerous times
Just before Missouri got bloodied in the Civil War.
Jesse James, Jesse James, he robbed banks and he robbed trains.
The Pinkerton men tried to hunt him down. They followed him around from town to town, But they never laid a hand on Jesse James
There was lots of bad trouble on the border back then and a lot of the fightin´ had to do with revenge. There wasn´t much way you could sit back and not take sides.

Lesley Nelson-Burns
Information Lyrics Vance Randolph collected this song in Arkansas in 1920 from a man who reportedly learned it from his father-in-law, "who had often entertained the James and Younger boys in his cabin."
Jesse James, living in St. Joseph, Missouri under his pseudonym "Thomas Howard" was shot by Robert Ford on April 4, 1882. Robert Ford was a member of Jesse's gang whom Jesse regarded as a friend. Ford shot Jesse in the back while Jesse was hanging a picture. According to Randolph the song became popular throughout the Midwest almost immediately after Jesse's death. Ford himself was shot in 1892 by another member of Jesse's gang.
Jesse James was a lad who killed many a man
He robbed the Glendale train;
He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor
He'd a hand and a heart and a brain.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.
It was Robert Ford, that dirty little coward;
