Noble Intention: To own one copy of, and have read, each and every single novel that has ever won a Hugo, Nebula, Philip K.Dick, World Fantasy, Clarke, or Stoker Award by the end of five years from the commencement of this exercise in March 2002. Why? To get a sense of perspective on the speculative fiction field, back to the 1950s, and to give myself an excuse to build more nice book-shelves. Keeping Track of My Progress: (Or lack thereof) On the tables below, books that I've never so much as set my dirty paws on are left a cold and melancholy white. Books that I own but have not read are marked in anticipatory yellow. Books that I have read but do not currently own are marked in reproachful blue. Books that I own and have read are marked in friendly, happy green The greener the board, the nearer I am to world domination, or a visit with the eye doctor. Fear my elite speculative fiction intake skills, mortals.

The Huntington Art Collections
The Virginia Steele Scott Gallery of American Art
With the opening of the Virginia Steele Scott Gallery in 1984, American art became a significant part of the Huntington's collection. While Henry Huntington envisioned a collection of American art as early as 1919, his vision was not realized until sixty years later. In 1979 The Virginia Steele Scott Foundation made a major gift to the Huntington which included a group of fifty American paintings, funds to construct a gallery to display the collection, and an endowment for its professional managment. Since the Scott Gallery opened, its collection has continued to grow, largely through the support of the The Scott Foundation.
The chronological arrangement of the Gallery's permanent collection traces the development of American art over three centuries. Period furniture and silver provide a domestic context for the paintings and sculpture. Visitors enter a display of art from the colonial period and the first years of the republic, and continue through groupings of works from the antebellum period, the post-Civil War era, and the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the central gallery, monumental paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries are complemented by furniture, silver, and sculpture.
In addition to special exhibitions, the Scott Gallery includes a permanent installation of works by the early 20th-century Southern California architects, Charles and Henry Greene, as well as other Arts and Crafts objects, organized in collaboration with

FROM THE WIRES NEWS
By Steven Bonisteel Newsbytes Feb 1 2002 1:08PM Microsoft's new security czar may not be an expert in patching holes in software, but he has experience in hunting down and prosecuting hackers who like to exploit such vulnerabilities.
Scott Charney, who Microsoft named Thursday as its chief security strategist, spent most of the 1990s at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he headed the division responsible for computer crimes.
In replacing Howard Schmidt, who left Microsoft to become the Bush administration's electronic security advisor, Charney will be assuming responsibilities for what the Redmond, Wash., company calls its "Trustworthy Computing" drives.
"As one of the industry's top computer security experts, Scott has wide-ranging experience in cybercrime and computer forensics, which will make him an essential member of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing leadership team," Craig Mundie, Microsoft's chief technical officer, said in a prepared statement. "Scott takes a long-term, industry-wide perspective on security strategy and understands the critical challenge of building safe and secure software and services for our customers and the industry."
Most recently, Charney was a principal for PricewaterhouseCoopers' Cybercrime Prevention and Response Practice, which he joined in 1999.
