This is the fifth update of this article, which first appeared in October, 1997. The major update took place on what would have been The Master's 100th birthday, on August 13, 1999. The most recent update took place in August, 2003.
As I found out after beginning work on the first version of this tribute, there's a lot more out there than I first thought, and even more sites and tributes appeared because of the Centennial in 1999. Movies like "Vertigo" and "Psycho" have their own sites. Several sites have pages devoted entirely to a listing of Hitchcock's legendary cameos in his own movies. So rather than try to write something that would duplicate the mountain of material out there, I decided to focus on finding all that material and organizing it for you. This article consists of a listing of the most useful Hitchcock links that I have been able to find, divided into seven sections: general Hitchcock sites, links to sites and pages devoted to his films, other miscellaneous pages, lists of cameos, movie reviews, where to see his movies, photos and art, lists of books and posters, and links for a newsgroup and mailing list. If you are a Hitchcock fan, you should find enough information here to keep you busy for a long time.

ALFRED HITCHCOCK,

76. Rear Window
Play's review of alfred hitchcock's wittily sarcastic masterpiece.
http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/forum/6370/rearwindow.html
Play
Rear Window(1954) Directed by Alfred Hitchcock Not Rated
Alfred Hitchcock's devilishly entertaining "Rear Window" is the type of stunning accomplishment that would be most directors defining moment. However, Hitchcock is not a typical movie director and "Rear Window" is far from his defining moment, though it is a bona-fide masterpiece. It is a film event that epitomizes the magic which the best films can accomplish, and belongs to Hitchcock's elite group of masterpieces alongside "North By Northwest," "Psycho," "Rope," "Strangers on a Train" and "Vertigo." Ah, sarcasm! It's one of the many gifts that "Rear Window" possesses and the sharp, rapid-fire dialogue is hilariously benefitted from it. Chances are, many of the funny wise-cracks and gripes could be missed among the visual splendor and absorbing spectacle of the scenes. However, a second viewing of this great film is richer than the initial viewing. The dynamic teaming of Stewart, Ritter and the luminous Grace Kelly are incomparably great in their performances. Perhaps this teaming more than any other Hitchcock character list is the greatest ever compiled for one of his films. In fact, one would be hard-pressed to come up with a troupe of actors in any film that can match the beauty, timing and dead-on perfection of acting that this trio accomplishes in masses. The "witnessed" murder at the heart of "Rear Window" is either a cleverly covered crime or a figment of Stewart's prying imaginations. There is far more here than meets the eye here, as in most of Hitchcock's finest films. "Rear Window" is a virtual guarantee for any movie watcher. Casual viewers will likely be swept into the absorbing, humorous and tense voyeurism that is the unique style of the film while thoughtful fans will be awarded with a darkly hilarious wit that makes Alfred Hitchcock one of the greatest directors to ever grace the screens of cinema. This is not merely one of the great films from perhaps the greatest film director. It is also a superb reminder of why most people treasure movies to begin with . . . and perhaps why we shouldn't!

Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader
Alfred Hitchcock's most famous silent (1926). Not a great film, but a remarkable one, with Hitchcock at his most "innovative," shooting through plate-glass floors and generally one-upping the expressionist cliches of the period. The story bears a strong resemblance to Frenzy . 75 min.
