Jim Henson
The Father of Dreams
Is there a person today, whose heart has not been touched in some way by the most magnifcent creater of dreams there ever was. The forever lasting Jim Henson who has left a touch on the world that outweighs Walt Disney or Mother Teresa in every possible way. We've all grown or are growing up on his work, and even today, every single creation he spawned holds a differnt meaning to every person who sees it, but whatever you see in his work, you always saw heart.
From Jim's legendary creations such as 'Sesame Street' or 'The Muppet Show' to his fantastic creations such as 'The Dark Crystal' or 'Labyrinth' where for the first time it becomes possible to see that conventional audience pleasing film, and art can blend to create the perfect movie. With the magic touch of Jim's pupetering skills along for the ride, there was no way he could lose.
Jim's departure from this world in 1990 was a great loss to all humanity, as people and muppets alike all around the world suddenly had to come to terms with the tragic death of the worlds greatest dreamer...and the worlds greatest entertainer. His son carries on his fathers tradition to this day, with such fantastic animal creations as "Babe" for the movie 'Babe the Pig'. Still to this day, his daunting ideas and vibrant songs echo the corners of our mind, remindin g us of the true values of love, of harmony and of peacefulness.
Jim...we miss you.

He moved to Maryland in fifth grade and throughout his childhood had a strong interest in both art and television. His grandmother was very supportive of his interests and constantly encouraged him to use his imagination. In 1954 Jim started in television performing puppets on a local channel’s Saturday morning program. The next year, while studying at the University of Maryland, he was given a five-minute show called Sam and Friends which aired twice a day. With weekly appearances on these shows, Jim asked for the help of a puppet maker name Don Sahlin and a puppeteer name Frank Oz. "From 1964 to 1969 Henson produced several experimental films." Jim Henson, 1936-1990 An artist who learned sewing from his grandmother, Jim Henson turned his love of performing and puppetry into a multi-million dollar media empire. Fairy godfather to a generation raised with the magic of his fabulous worlds and fanciful creatures, Henson's work on "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show" earned him an honored place among the most influential figures in television. Jim Henson died of pneumonia in New York City May 16th, 1990 at the age of 53. Born James Maury Henson on September 24th, 1936 at King's Daughters Hospital of Greenville, Mississippi, Jim Henson was the younger of two sons of Paul and Betty Henson. Henson's father was an agronomist for the US Department of Agriculture, assigned to a station in Leland, Mississippi, and it was there that Henson and his older brother Paul spent their early years. The Henson's were among the first families in their district to own a television which held nearly as much fascination for Jim Henson as art, which he demonstrated a gift for at an early age. Henson's budding artistic talents were encouraged by his maternal grandmother who was herself a skilled painter and seamstress, and she was credited with teaching Henson needlework and soft sculpture techniques in his youth. Henson and his family moved to Hyattsville, Maryland around 1947. A standout in his art classes at Hyattsville's Northwestern High School, Henson began experimenting with theater and puppetry, a medium he believed could be enhanced with television. Henson observed that by using the television camera to crop puppeteers from view of the audience, the puppets themselves would no longer be confined to the box-type stages traditionally used to screen operators from view. During Henson's senior year at Northwestern, he proved his theory by debuting his "Muppets" (a name he applied to his unique marionette and puppet hybrids) on a Washington-based Saturday morning children's show.
