Former Beatle George Harrison, singer, songwriter and guitarist for one of the world's most famous pop groups, has died after losing his battle against cancer. Harrison died on Thursday at a friend's Los Angeles home, at 1330 local time, according to his longtime friend Gavin De Becker.
Fans have laid flowers at his statue in Liverpool
"He died with one thought in mind - love one another," De Becker said. De Becker said Harrison's wife Olivia and son Dhani, 24, were both with him when he died. Harrison's family issued a statement saying: "He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. "He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another'."
Harrison was the youngest Beatle
Fans have been laying floral tributes outside the Abbey Road recording studios in London, where the Beatles recorded almost all their work, at his Friar Park home in Henley-on-Thames and outside the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

The River Ganges is sacred to Hindus
Vigils have been held for a third day for George Harrison on the banks of India's River Ganges, but there is still uncertainty over where the former Beatle's ashes will be scattered. Officials of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) said that Harrison's widow Olivia and son Dhani were to arrive in India on Tuesday or Wednesday. They have not been seen in the area yet and local police officials say they have been told nothing about any ceremony. The former Beatle lost his battle against cancer last Thursday and news of his death prompted worldwide mourning.
Harrison had a long relationship with India
India's Varanasi city police Inspector-General Vikram Singh said he thought the ceremony was a "creation of the media". "As far as the administration is concerned, I don't think there's anything happening because normally any important people would seek official assistance even for a private ritual," he said.

George Harrison died in November 2001
The confusion over where former Beatle George Harrison spent his last few hours and died has been cleared up. He passed away in a Hollywood Hills mansion once leased by Sir Paul McCartney and formerly owned by singer Courtney Love, an investigation by the Los Angeles county district attorney's office revealed. Questions were raised over the exact location where Harrison spent his final hours last November, after a friend listed his place of death as a fictitious address in LA. Sir Paul McCartney denies owning a home in California
An LA solicitor called for a public investigation, pointing out that knowingly falsifying death certificates is an offence. Harrison died in November last year after a long battle with cancer. Gavin de Becker, a security consultant working for the late Beatle, has now corrected the first address he put on the certificate.

Later on, he attended the Liverpool Institute, a "smart school", but was regarded as a poor student, and contemporaries described him as someone who would "sit alone in the corner." In the mid- he met Paul McCartney (also a Liverpool Institute student) and later played lead guitar in the band (initially called the Quarry Men ) that eventually became the Beatles. At the height of the Beatles' popularity, he was often characterized as the "Quiet Beatle", noted for his introspective manner and his growing interest in

Tickets for a concert in memory of George Harrison have sold out even before the line-up has been announced. The high-profile event, expected to attract many big names from the rock and pop world, is being held in Liverpool on 24 February. The date would have been his 59th birthday, and the show is said to be the only UK memorial concert planned in honour of the former Beatle. Tickets for the show at the Liverpool Empire theatre were snapped up by fans only days after they went on sale. 'Touching idea' Many of the tickets have gone to fans overseas as well as in Liverpool and other parts of the UK. A theatre spokesman said: "We are completely sold out, but I am not surprised as George was held in tremendous affection in Liverpool and around the world.
Harrison recorded many memorable solo albums
"But it is very unusual, and certainly new for us, to have a concert sell-out before the line-up is even announced."

129. Observer Why The Death Of A Sixties Idol Is So Affecting
Article reflects on george harrison's life and death, and the impact on an entire generation.
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/print/0,3858,4311537-102273,00.html
Why the death of a Sixties idol is so affecting The Beatles had an incalculable impact on an entire generation. We only realised it was a lifelong affair when gentle George died Will Hutton
Sunday December 2, 2001
The Observer
The post-1945 generation believed it was different from its parents. At one level, we knew that all generations feel different from their parents but there was something elusive in the air that made us believe that this time it was for real. The way we engaged with each other represented a new culture. The Sixties were, in their way, an Enlightenment moment. Those of us who were young then believed we were searching for a secular, humanistic fulfilment and through that to find happiness. Happiness, we knew, did not lie in subjugating our desires to the codes of society as our parents had - commuting to work, settling into the routine of breakfast, lunch and supper at the same hour of every day and hoping that doing what others did and suppressing individuality would bring contentment. We were out to change and explore our inner selves, and through that we would change not just our relationships with each other - but the world itself.

    Sipping tea with George Harrison
By CNN's Mark Davies LONDON, England (CNN) George Harrison sat back in his chair, wearing a revolting purple shirt, sipped tea and put the world to rights. Politicians were no good. It was time for a change, he drawled. Let's give the other guys a chance. It was 1992 and we were in a small room at a film studio near London. George had agreed to a few interviews so he could add his voice to the UK's general election campaign of that year. He wanted us all to support a fringe group called the Natural Law Party (NLP). A group of earnest men in sober suits some of the NLP's candidates milled around. Their campaign centred on the teachings of one-time Beatles guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. They promoted things like "yogic flying." They had no chance of even the smallest victory in the upcoming poll. But they had George.

An Astrology Study of George Harrison
Harrison in 1972 T his is a sketch of George Harrison's health horoscope with additional notes on his musical interests and considerable sensitivity. This review of health signatures delves into the medical meaning of "accumulated deficit". Those looking beyond his manufactured Beatle image are invited to look a bit more closely into the material presented. That is not to say he is not a hero to Fab Four fans everywhere or undeserving of his fame. Rather he was a "quiet" man of great emotional depth and of great spirituality whose many contributions to music and to faith had perhaps not been readily apparent to us or fully appreciated before his passage from this life at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 29, 2001 in Los Angeles, CA. His death from brain cancer touched many and caused shock waves of grief around the world. To most of us George Harrison will forever be one of the Fab Four, our much beloved youngest Beatle. The mature man from Liverpool at age 58 bore only slight resemblance to his youth in terms of depth- of character, of maturity and of life direction. This said let's take a close look at his natal chart. Please note the article is intended for astrologers desiring added facility in the examination of medical horoscopes and discusses only those events and influences applicable to the medical history.

George Harrison was a humble and friendly person: Saeed Naqvi
Seasoned journalist Saeed Naqvi got to know the Beatles when they came to India on their spiritual quest. Here he talks about George Harrison , the band's lead guitarist, song writer and the most understated Beatle, who was strongly influenced by the Indian way of life and introduced Indian classical music to the West by playing the sitar and using ragas. The Beatles represented the social unrest among the Western youth in the 1960s. Tired of the materialism of the West, they were looking for something spiritual. They symbolised the rebellion against the prevailing social order. The Beatles' love affair with Indian spirituality and Indian classical music started after George Harrison met sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Akbar Ali Khan.

Harrison, right, led the Beatles' spiritual quest
By BBC News Online's Sanjoy Majumder in Delhi India and the Beatles have always shared a special relationship with the Liverpool band being seen by many as bringing Indian music to the West. The 1960s counter-culture of alternative lifestyles, drugs and anti-materialism was a perfect time for anyone seeking cultural, personal and sexual freedom. Just imagine some Indian villager trying to play the violin when you know what it should sound like
Ravi Shankar on Harrison's attempt at the sitar
And it is the former Beatle, George Harrison, who was the impetus for the group's spiritual quest of the 1960s which brought them to this country. In 1965, on the set of the Beatles' second film, Help, he discovered the Indian string instrument, the sitar. Soon after, the group recorded the song Norwegian Wood - becoming the first western rock band to use the sitar and herald the short lived "raga-rock" genre.
