You argue a close relationship between women and computing, especially with reference to the relationship between Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage. Sadie Plant: Eileen Gunn: Do you think Ada did everything she took credit for? I suppose none us have.... Sadie Plant: Eileen Gunn: Why was she important? Sadie Plant: Eileen Gunn: Dorothy Stein, I think, argued that she was rather the first technical writer. But I couldn't get a handle on where Stein was coming from on that. The movie was ment as pilot for a potential Gunn revival, this time with Peter Strauss as the private eye Peter Gunn - and Edwards' daughter Jennifer as Gunn's dimwitted secretary Maggie Dougan. The film is not updated to the present time, but is set in 1964, with accessory oldtimers and jazzy music. When the gangster Julius Catullus dies of electrocution in his swimming pool, everybody assumes the rival gang of Tony Amati is behind it. Julius' brother Spiros, eager for an occassion to fight Amati, starts a war against him. Amati hires Peter Gunn to find the killer and prove his innocence, but both sides get attacked heavily and suspicion arises that a third party has an interest in seeing both Amati and Spiros killed. The government-owned passenger railroad, which last year lost $1.3 billion on sales of $2 billion, faced financial and organizational disarray, outspoken enemies on Capitol Hill, and at least a decade's worth of deferred maintenance projects. But Gunna Harvard Business School graduate who in his career has headed up transit systems in New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto and Washington D.C.has on the whole earned high marks for his focus on fixing Amtrak's bookkeeping, thinning its bureaucracy and coming clean with Congress about the railroad's needs for staying viable. Gunn, 66, seems also to have won the admiration of one of Amtrak's most important business partners: the freight railroads. I was later assigned to the 405th Bomb Squadron of the 38th Bomb Group arriving at Nadzab in mid-July. I flew B-25 strafer missions with them until I left the group in the Philippines in April, 1945, returning to the States, my wife and our parents. As I remember, the streets were dirt and there was a covered board walk in front of the various businesses. I remember going to see movies at a little theater, closed in by businesses and a wall, but no roof (I wonder if that was the Olympia picture theatre? - Peter) . Was there a canvas canopy suspended from wires overhead? The seats were canvas slings on wood frames - we called them beach chairs. The town was like a frontier western town in the States. I came from a small town in southern California so it was kind of homey to me. Seeing the poinsettias in bloom reminded me of December at home. All the eucalyptus trees reminded me of the many days I spent as a youth hiking through a large eucalyptus grove near my home. I enjoyed a few dinners - steak and eggs - in one of the eating places not far from the theater. One of my dreams (most likely never to become actual) would be to take my wife to all the places I visited during my time in the southwest Pacific area. If I should win a Reader's Digests $1,000,000 prize, I might be able to do that. I would surely come to

The booklet contains both words from Banks as from Gabriel. Ant plays on the album itself. The music is a collection of songs recorded over the years ('69-'79). In a way the music reminds me somewhat of Genesis, but not much. The music is very English, has a lot of acoustic guitar and piano and some synth. You can hear well at times that the music comes from different periods. The music itself is not something to get overly enthusiastic about and might not be called progressive by most. The style must be compared to Ant Philips solowork mostly and as such the tracks are not bad and some are even good: the instrumental A Minor Epic, the more hectic Walk to the Water and the Genesislike, lamenting Falcon Rise or the slow The Giants Dance. If you want to hear Genesis go somewhere else, but if you are interested historically or if you are a fan of Ant Philips and like to hear something "similar" then you might give it a try.

The Life of Dr. David Gunn by David Gunn, Jr. Dr. David Gunn was educated at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and received his M.D. from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Gunn completed his residency in OB/GYN in Nashville, where he was named Chief Resident. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Gunn moved to Brewton, Alabama. Dr. Gunn elected to live in a poor, rural community where no other OB/GYN was practicing. Initially a specialist in infertility, Dr. Gunn began performing abortions for the same reason he chose to aid women who were having trouble conceiving: he believed that patients have the right to decide for themselves what services they need. In effect, Dr. Gunn believed that the physician served the patient; he was committed to providing all of his patients' health care needs without judgement. Dr. Gunn was a skilled, dedicated physician. Dr. Gunn traveled over 1000 miles a week providing an unpopular service in communities that lacked reliable abortion providers. He practiced medicine in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, seeing patients in Mobile, Fort Walton, Columbus, Pensacola, Montgomery, Birmingham, Tallahassee, Savannah, and Orlando. He drove all of these miles in great physical pain. You see, Dr. Gunn suffered the effects of a childhood bout with polio, which resulted in the limited use of his left leg; however, he did not let his physical pain obstruct his duty as a doctor. Furthermore, Dr. Gunn endured daily picketing, protesters, stalkings, and death threats; all of which caused severe mental stress. In light of all of these obstacles, Dr. Gunn stayed strong and continued to provide women with all of their health care needs.
