"I'd prescribe Prosac and get them to see my shrink," said the Australian actress in an interview with BBC World's HARDtalk. She was talking about the film Hilary and Jackie, for which she has been nominated Best Supporting Actress for the part of cellist Jacqueline Du Pre's older sister. The controversial film about a young genius who dies of multiple sclerosis, centres on sibling rivalry and Jackie's love affair with her brother-in-law. In the film, sister Hilary allows the affair to continue because of her sister's frail emotional state, something Rachel Griffiths finds difficult to understand. "I find many human interactions bewildering," she told HARDtalk's Tim Sebastian. "We are capable of extraordinary self sacrifice for another person, donating organs and going through enormous pain to save a child, you know, all these things, and we're capable of such intense evil to each other as human beings."

Eventually he studied at the Maryland Institute of Art where he served as president of the Art Student's League for two years. He later studied mural painting in Europe for three years. Returning to Baltimore, he worked as a professional painter for seven years, and when World War I broke out, Coale worked as Marine Camoufleur for the U.S. Shipping Board from 1917 to 1918. In 1922, Coale moved to New York where he painted portraits, decorative paintings for buildings, and murals. He executed murals in a number of prominent buildings, including the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Building, the Criminal Courts Building, the City Bank Farmers Trust Building. His work was not confined to New York City, but is seen throughout the East. In 1941, sensing that war was imminent, Coale approached Admiral Chester W. Nimitz with the idea of having combat artists on board navy ships to observe operations and document what they saw in paintings. From his experience in World War I and knowing that the British Navy had a successful war art program, Coale wanted to convince the U.S. Navy of the value of art in documenting war. Griffith became the leading artistic and commercial filmmaker, and embodied the independent spirit of movie production. Born David Wark Griffith on January 22, 1875, Griffith was a stage actor and playwright who entered the fledgling film industry during the era of the Edison patents monopoly. D. W. Griffith transitioned from actor to director at the American Biograph Company, one of the member studios of the Motion Picture Patents Company (aka The Edison Trust). Between June 1908 and August 1913 he directed over 450 shorts before leaving Biograph to make feature-length movies without the hostility that characterized the retrogressive attitude of the Trust.
