This idea is that repatriation should begin with internal liberation and a connection with Africa. Therefore, instead of a literal movement to Africa it is a mental connection to Africa. (Barrett, 1997, P.172) Repatriation is a complex idea that is understood in several different ways. The underlying principle of repatriation is that Blacks have faith and hope in overcoming centuries of oppression by reconnecting to their roots and a time of prosperity. Repatriation is not only a religious belief for Rastafarians but it also has served as a worldwide theme of Black Nationalism and unification. Not all Africans that were taken from Africa and sold in "The New World" were from Ethiopia, but that is the designated destination of the repatriation movements. The most obvious reason for this is because it was in Ethiopia that Haile Selassie ruled. This would explain why Rastafarians would desire to repatriate to Ethiopia. The following quote explains the Rastafarian connection to Ethiopia. Ithiopia represents a tangible reality within the transitory flesh; spirit more powerful than flesh, the reality of the indestructible Irit, the umbilical chord of creation rooted in the core of the personality, the illusive link with Jah and the breaking asunder of the psychosociological bonds of mental slavery which have pauperised and plagued West Indian psyche for 400 years in the Diaspora.

He is also Professor of Trumpet at the Juilliard School of Music, New York, and travels regularly to Europe and Asia to perform as a soloist and clinician. Mr. Gould's appreciation of Iberian music and customs, has resulted in frequent invitations to perform at festivals in Spain and Portugal. Director of the famous New York Trumpet Ensemble, he is also Musical Director of the Main Street Band, an ensemble dedicated to presenting American wind band masterpieces. The Band's Last Waltz That Train Don't Stop Here Anymore by Greil Marcus This article first appeared in Rolling Stone Magazine , Dec 30, 1976. THE LATE JUNIOR PARKER made the original recording of ‘Mystery Train’ in 1953, taking the first lines Train I ride Sixteen coaches long from the Carter Family’s "Worried Man Blues," which dates from the Twenties, though no one knows exactly when the Carter Family got it. It is a very old song. When the Band went after the tune an hour or so into their farewell concert at Winterland Thanksgiving night, the song sounded new. I had heard Parker sing it, and Elvis, and Paul Butterfield, and I had heard the Band’s version, with new lyrics, on Moondog Matinee , their oldies album; this was something else entirely new. Both Levon Helm, singing lead, and Richard Manuel played drums; Paul Rutterfield played harp; and together they began a jumping beat that kicked with greater force each time the tune turned a corner. I have never heard Butterfield play with such strength: his harp was a hoodoo night call hovering over the crowd, cutting through the "event" of the Band’s last performance to show why such a performance could have become an "event" in the first place. The Band held nothing back; they played with an intensity I’ve seen them attain only occasionally over the years behind Dylan in 1965, on the second night of their debut performances at Winterlandin 1969, with Dylan in 1974 on "Highway 61 Revisited" and "All Along the Watchtower" an intensity I’ve never forgotten.
