Over the past couple of months, my dad ( DotComDad , to many of you) has faced many health difficulties. My increased involvement in his care over the past month will delay the conclusion of the widely publicized sale of DotComGuy. Although results will be revealed soon, I will be unable to do so before May 15th as I originally announced. That deadline was an attempt to ensure the transfer of the trademark was complete before my wonderful wife

DotComGuy to Live Off Net for Year DALLAS, TX. — The Net has found its ultimate flagpole sitter, and he is named DotComGuy — a former UPS computing systems manager who is not leaving his house during the entire year and will live entirely from e-commerce items shipped to his home. His restrictions are not quite like those of the famous Biosphere project; the DotComGuy “compound” house is not a self-contained environment. And he can have friends in. But he can’t leave, and he must “live off the Net” for one year. The twenty-something DotComGuy (his new legal name) has a number of prominent e-commerce sponsors, including: NetBank.com, PeaPod (a Net grocer), Mall.com, Bizland, Borders Books, FitLinxx.com, and UPS to deliver goods from the outside world to the DotCom compound. And he, of course, has already garnered much public and media attention. He has done over 400 news interviews in less than a month. And during one 12-hour period, his website had 900,000 visitors, DotCom said. Among other entertainments to keep himself distracted, DotCom plans to hold regular “Karaoke Nights” in his compound. He writes the following in his journal of Jan. 22 about his first such effort. “I think I need to be clearer with guests that our viewers expect our events to start on time. It’s not a regular party; it’s a global event,” DotCom complains, but added. “We were honored to have some celebrity look-alikes sing for us. Among them, Cher, Elton John, and Elvis.”

Does DotComguy live in e-utopia or a publicity hut?
In this story:
Trouble with shoes, not potential wives A virtual billboard for sponsors NotComGuy takes on DotComGuy 'A time when I flip out a little' ... RELATED STORIES, SITES January 25, 2000 Web posted at: 12:18 p.m. EST (1718 GMT) By Richard Stenger CNN Interactive Writer (CNN) Barraged by reporters, mobbed by chat room fans, courted by talk shows, DotComGuy has struck a high-tech nerve since beginning his self-imposed exile this month. The twentysomething, former corporate computing drone has agreed to stay in a house until 2001, foraging out into the world only via the Internet, which he asserts will supply all his needs. DotComGuy, his recently assumed legal name, has so far put on a happy face in front of the dozen or so Web cameras in his house, calling most domestic activities "fun," most interview questions "excellent" and ending most daily journal entrees with the mantra, "I love the Internet." But questions remain about the independence of DotComGuy.com's Web site reviews, which glow brightly when they concern sponsors. And critics, including the self-professed NotComGuy, dismiss his vision of e-utopia as a publicity stunt.

There's no word on the DCG homepage This guy would have been a lot braver to try this 10 years ago. But now, having completed what some are calling The Most Useless Achievement of Our Time , rumors are circulating that DotComGuy's sponsors pulled out months ago, and poor DotComGuy was left in the lurch without his promised $98,280 paycheck. E-mails to DotComGuy's media representatives return only an automated response, advising that they "may not be able to assist journalists on a tight deadline." But a FAQ on the site states that DotComGuy was paid on a monthly basis, with his check coming direct from DotComGuy, Inc.

    Dotcomguy Drops 'Dotcom' From Name,
Now He's Just 'Guy' DALLAS, TEXAS (SatireWire.com) DotComGuy According to Guy, whose one year in online self-isolation ends Jan. 1, the change more accurately reflects the true nature of his diversifying personal interests. That, and he was worried he wouldn't get laid with a name like DotComGuy. "Initially, having DotCom in my name heightened my status," said Guy, who legally changed his name from Mitch Maddox to DotComGuy before entering virtual seclusion last Jan. 1. "But now it's suddenly like I'm just some loser who is little more than a pathetic symbol of Internet hype." Guy denied the loser label might also refer to being a 27-year-old single male who hasn't left his house for a year.
