David Dixon Porter Admiral, United States Navy Born at Chester, Pennsylvania, June 8, 1813, the son of David and Evelina Anderson Porter. He married Georgie Ann Patterson, March 10, 1839 and they had ten children, including Lieutenant Colonel Carlile Patterson Porter. He died at Washington, D.C. on February 13, 1891. He is buried in Section 2, Grave 55, of Arlington National Cemetery, not far from his grandson, Major General David Dixon Porter and his great-granddaughter, Carlie Patterson Porter. David Dixon Porter Major General, United States Marine Corps Born on April 29, 1877, the son of Lieutenant Colonel Carlile Patterson Porter and the grandson of Admiral David Dixon Porter , he was the sixth generation of a military family. As a Captain, he earned the Medal of Honor in the Philippines when at Samar, he led his men up a 200-foot cliff using bamboo ladders, and drove the enemy from nearly impregnable positions. He then cross the river and did the same thing on the other side, destroying positions that it took the enemy three years to construct. He later served in Panama, Haiti, Santo Domingo and World War I. Upon his retirement he was promoted to Major General on the retired list. He died at home in Philadelphia, Pennsyvlania, on February 25, 1944 and was buried in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery, not far from his famous grandfather. FASHION, FUR, BEAUTY, EVENTS FASHION DESIGNERS COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING-SUMMER 2003 DAVID DIXON Spring/Summer 2003 David Dixon opens spring-summer 2003 women's wear in black chiffon with billowy ostrich feathers for gowns and off-the-shoulder tops. An original silhouette is found in the crinkled superpositions of the long skirt coupled with the cropped white suit jacket with wide lapels and saddle-stitching. The asymmetric bell skirt in the same material with single-buttoned double-breasted jacket is equally as riveting and a tad more liberated. Dixon makes up for the fact that his distressed denim is way too neat and orderly to be distressed by thrusting on us the dramatics of the seersucker London Fog trench. Some intricate black cobweb lace camisoles create a stunning effect when paired with flared white pants in large, multidirectional stripes. In fact, white ruled this show. A white silk taffeta summer dress with cross-woven pattern is the kind of simple articulation that Dixon is known for. Among the sporadically interjected token men's wear pieces were a few nice loose-fitting suits in black and white. "Surrender not to the pleasures of the ordinary" was the caption to the right of the runway. Dixon surrenders to the pleasures of the eclectic, presenting 20 versions of each good idea, though this gets a little predictable. Ironically, conceptual designers like Dixon are strongest when examining all the angles.

FALL/WINTER 2001 CANADIAN DESIGNER COLLECTIONS David Dixon Fall/Winter 2001 Riding the train from Kensington to Covent Garden you are likely to bump into some interesting characters. For Fall/Winter 2001, Dixon continued to impress at the Steamwhistle Brewery, surprising everyone with a cameo from renegade musician Ashley MacIsaac. The show began with the edgy inflections of London Sub, featuring tie-dye corduroy pants and a ribbed, ripped sweater with scarf. The signature coats and evening wear included chocolate-brown quilted topcoats with racing collars and a shimmering smoking jacket with suede trim. For women, Dixon featured stiff, yet sexy metallic wool and tweed suiting with subtle seaming, chained pockets, and fox trim. Dresses were classic black, a swirling deep orange, and crazy, corseted geometrical - for trains that gently chug and bullet trains that take off. It doesn't appear that Dixon is losing any steam with three polished and persuasive shows in a row, who along with Crystal Siemens, are setting high expectations for runway events. Dixon’s collections for men and women with common design elements like necklines, clean silhouettes and use of variety of fabric offers consumers a distinctive and recognizable style.
