BBC will screen Dando's last show
The BBC has decided to screen the remainder of Jill Dando's Antiques Inspectors series following discussions with the murdered presenter's family. The first programme in the series was broadcast the evening before the 37-year-old was killed outside her London home. The series was shelved immediately afterwards. Her fiance, Alan Farthing, 82-year-old father Jack and brother Nigel, 47, have now agreed the remainder can be screened. The BBC said no dates had yet been set, but it would "definitely happen". Police are still looking for her killer. Depp seeks Liberace role Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is reportedly considering playing Liberace in a £60m film about the flamboyant piano man. The film will deal with the great showman's homosexuality, which he tried to hide throughout his life, according to reports. Liberace, who had Aids, died in 1987, aged 67. Depp, 36, shot to fame with his title role as Edward Scissorhands in 1990 and has since appeared in films such as What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Donnie Brasco and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Man bailed in Dando murder hunt

Miss Dando was shot dead at her London home
A man arrested by police investigating the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando has been released on bail for a fortnight pending further enquiries. He was held in custody overnight at a central London police station after being arrested at his London home on Thursday, said a Scotland Yard spokeswoman. Yard sources said the man was not a strong suspect and was thought to have been visited by officers following a telephone tip-off. He was not believed to be the prime suspect identified in an E-fit as the man spotted sprinting away from the scene of the murder in Fulham, west London, on 26 April. E-fit suspect This was the first arrest to have been made by detectives investigating the BBC TV presenter's death. The E-fit was compiled from the evidence of a witness in the Fulham Palace Road who saw a man sweating heavily at a bus stop minutes after Ms Dando was shot on her doorstep. Detectives believe that a figure from the 37-year-old Crimewatch host's past or a stalker is most likely to be behind the killing.

Hunt for Dando's 'well-dressed' killer

Jill Dando presented Crimewatch and Holiday
(Click here to see how the tragedy unfolded) Police are focusing the hunt for the killer of BBC presenter Jill Dando on a man seen outside her home before the murder. The man detectives want to question was spotted loitering in Gowan Avenue in Fulham, west London up to an hour before the killing at 11.30am on Monday. He was then seen running from the scene in the moments immediately afterwards. Ms Dando, 37, who presented Crimewatch UK and Holiday, was shot once in the side of the head from very close range with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, police told a news conference in London. The BBC's George Eykyn: "The Police already have a growing amount about the suspect" There was no sign of a struggle: Ms Dando did not even have enough time to get her keys into the door before she was shot. Speculation that a professional hitman was involved heightened after the execution-style manner of the killing was revealed, but police are keeping an open mind. At least seven witnesses who could have seen the man have come forward.

Barry Bulsari is the urban equivalent of the village idiot; every neighbourhood has one, dressed at the local charity shop in a baggy suit (lapels cluttered with badges) greasy baseball cap and trainers. They have obsessions with mundane celebrities like Freddy Mercury, Princess Diana, Gary Glitter and Jill Dando, their idea of fun is playing 'direct the traffic' and watching Oprah Winfrey. Unfortunately Bulsari (real name George, Michael) was the halfwit for Dando's neighbourhood and after eighty hours under a swinging lightbulb it looks like the Met's finest have got him to say he popped out and bought a Mauser automatic before blowing away the girl-next-door. Described as the "Golden Girl of television", Jill Dando was one of a small handful of presenters able to turn her hand almost effortlessly to light entertainment or news. She rose to become a household name, fronting BBC programmes such as the Six O'Clock News, Breakfast News, Crimewatch and Holiday. She was even featured on the front of this week's Radio Times magazine, talking about her new Sunday evening show Antiques Detectives. In a recent interview, Miss Dando, who in February announced her engagement to be married, said she had never been happier. Despite her star status, friends and colleagues, shocked by her death, sought to convey her homely, humble nature.

BBC Director General, Sir John Birt, said her "public and private persona were one and the same thing". "She was an unusually modest person for our industry. She mucked in and was a normal member of the team."

'Clear leads' to Dando's killer

Ms Dando was shot on her doorstep on April 26
Detectives hunting the killer of TV presenter Jill Dando have "clear leads" and are confident of solving her murder. The police officer leading the murder hunt said he understood why the public was frustrated that no-one had been arrested for the crime in the six months since her death. But Detective Chief Inspector Hamish Campbell said officers were "confident" that those responsible for her brutal shooting would be brought to justice. Crimewatch presenter Miss Dando, 37, was shot once in the head on 26 April, the killer or killers striking on the doorstep of her home in Gowan Avenue, Fulham, west London. An organised contract killing or a stalker obsessed with the presenter remained the most likely murder scenarios, said DCI Campbell. 'Inquiry bill at £2m' The police investigation, which will have been running for six months on Tuesday, has now cost more than £2m, it has been reported. The bulk of the bill has been run up because of the large number of officers sifting through the evidence and mounting surveillance operations on suspects, The Sun newspaper claimed on Saturday.

Dando's fiance faces pain of wedding day

The couple had been planning wedding when she was murdered
It would have been the day of his wedding to the woman he described as "the perfect partner". Instead, Jill Dando's fiance was being supported by friends on Saturday as he remembered the murdered TV presenter. Ms Dando and doctor Alan Farthing had booked their marriage at a London church, and the TV presenter was in the process of preparing for the big day when she was killed. On 26 April, when she was murdered on the doorstep of her Fulham home, Ms Dando was beginning a fortnight's holiday which she had set aside to organise her wedding after several months of travelling. A service in memory of JIll Dando is being held next Tuesday The 37-year-old had an appointment for the first fitting for her wedding dress and was planning to sort out invitations. On the evening before she died, the couple had prepared a letter for Claridges, where they intended to hold the reception. One of her last telephone calls was to a person who was helping to organise the couple's honeymoon.

Dando murder case reviewed

Flowers for Jill Dando - but still no new leads
The internal review of the investigation into the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando comes to a close on Monday - but it has uncovered no major new leads, according to a senior Scotland Yard source. Five police officers and a civilian were called in 28 days after the murder to examine records of decisions taken and to question detectives over leads they were following. The unit was one of three set up in London in April as part of a new approach to murder cases that followed the bungled inquiry in the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence. Detective Chief Superintendent Barry Webb, is due to hand in its report to Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Trotter, the head of central area crime later on Monday. The report will not be made public. Meanwhile, the incident room in west London has handled more than 5,000 telephone calls, letters and faxes since Miss Dando's murder on 26 April. She was killed by a single shot from a 9mm "short" handgun on the doorstep of her home at Gowan Avenue, Fulham, west London.

Bullet clue in Dando murder

Jill Dando was shot on her doorstep in Gowan Avenue, Fulham
Detectives hunting the killer of BBC presenter Jill Dando say they may have an important new lead. The gunman who shot Miss Dando on her doorstep in Fulham, west London, in April may have left his personal trademark on the fatal bullet. Six distinctive marks were found on the cartridge case which have never been seen either in the UK or elsewhere, said Det Ch Insp Hamish Campbell. The BBC's Graham McLaggen reports Forensic experts in the UK, Europe and further afield have all inspected the tiny marks, made with hammer blows, but none recognised the symbols. The marks would have had the effect of holding the bullet in place by "crimping" the cartridge case, but the firing of the bullet would not have been affected, Mr Campbell said. He said the markings could have been a trademark, habit or idiosyncrasy. ... Dando murder will be solved - police

The killer left little forensic evidence at the scene of the crime
The BBC's Crimewatch UK programme has broadcast another appeal in an attempt to find the murderer of television presenter Jill Dando, 50 days after she was killed. The BBC's Stephen Cape: "No immediate prospect of an arrest" The appeal was screened on the programme, which Ms Dando used to co-present with Nick Ross, on Tuesday night. Last month Crimewatch showed an extensive reconstruction of Ms Dando's murder on 26 April in an attempt to jog memories. Mr Ross told viewers on Tuesday: "I was pessimistic after last month's programme. Jill Dando...her murder appears motiveless "It has been a hard slog, going through the calls, but Detective Chief Inspector Hamish Campbell says it may take several months to solve the murder but it will be solved." Brother is confident Ms Dando's brother Nigel has said he remains confident that the person who shot Ms Dando in the head outside her home in Fulham, west London, will be found. "We're not at all despondent," he said. "I know it's been quite a long time, but we know the police have been working flat out on this inquiry, and that they've still got a mountain of information to sift through."
