Alberto Cassani, 14 Marzo 2003 Solaris di Steven Soderbergh Riduzione cinematografica dell'omonimo romanzo di Stanislaw Lem già egregiamente portato sullo schermo da Andrej Tarkovskij nel 1972, questo "Solaris" è un dramma psicologico ambientato nello spazio, una riflessione filosofica sul senso della vita; è la storia di un amore perduto e ritrovato, un'analisi del comportamento di un uomo di fronte ad una seconda opportunità. "Solaris" un film di fantascienza, e un film di George Clooney, anche se l'attore ne approfitta per mostrare il sedere alle sue fan. E' invece un film di Steven Soderbergh, che incentra la storia sui rapporti interpersonali, come in fondo ha fatto per tutta la sua carriera, senza lanciarsi in sperimentalismi che sarebbero stati fuori luogo, giocando bene con la cronologia degli eventi e dirigendo una fotografia artificiosa ma funzionale. grazie E' un tentativo curioso per entrambi i registi, questo, dal quale è probabile entrambi abbiano imparato qualcosa. Un tentativo certamente non riuscito al meglio ma di sicuro non banale come ci si poteva anche aspettare. Supportata dalle belle scenografie di Philip Messina e dalle valide musiche di Cliff Martinez, e dotata di un finale davvero splendido, questa nuova e interessante versione di "Solaris" è destinata a non fare una lira neanche qui da noi. Felice di sbagliarmi, però.

George Clooney: Yes. In fact, we had to keep speeding it up. We would do a scene, and then we would look at the tape, and Michelle would say, "It's got to be faster." And I would agree. So, we would do it again, and it would still need to be faster when we looked at the tape. We just kept speeding it up until it felt VERY strange while we were doing it, but it looked and sounded right when you viewed it. Strange, huh? Stoner: It IS, but the director, Michael Hoffman, has a theory about that. Let me run it by both of you: He says that when we're in a room like this one, just talking, we're getting data from a lot of sources out of the sides of our eyes, things heard around the corner extraneous information that we barely notice. BUT, when you FRAME a shot and isolate attention to, say, two people verbally sparring, you can take in that limited information much faster because you don't have all of the competing stuff. Not bad, huh? Clooney: Not bad at ALL. That must be why it felt so different when doing it but worked when you viewed it on playback. Of course, that's the way I like to work anyhow just throw the lines away, not try to fill the space with anything. On E.R. whatever I do I'm always just throwing them away because I'm not good enough to fill the spaces with anything else. That's just what makes ME comfortable.

Le invenzioni non mancano, soprattutto quelle visive, come il mega-direttore dello studio legale, una larva umana tenuta misteriosamente in vita da un’infinità di macchinari, ma così ostinata a vivere da essere un perfetto e inquietante simbolo del potere. Anche certe scene sono geniali, come quella d’apertura, con uno strepitoso Geoffrey Rush e quella verso la fine, veramente da culto, in cui lo stralunato sicario Joe Fischietto (interpretato da un azzeccato Irwin Keyes), confuso dalla repentina inversione tra vittima e committente, inverte anche la pistola col nebulizzatore di anti-asmatico attuando così una cura definitiva per il suo attacco d’asma.

Home Confessioni di una mente pericolosa di George Clooney Due film quasi nello stesso momento con due soggetti così simili che è quasi impossibile non confrontare. Auto Focus e Confessioni Di Una Mente Pericolosa. Due autobiografie di due personaggi che hanno dato un grosso contributo alla televisione e che nella confessione dell'autobiografia si sono sentiti di dover comunicare il loro segreto: per Bob Crane, la star di Gli Eroi di Hogan è il sesso e la pornografia, per Chuck Barris, l'inventore di alcuni famosissimi format televisi è l'essere stato un agente segreto della C.I.A. Seguiamo quindi la vita di Barris dai suoi difficili inizi, determinato ad aver successo nel mondo della televisione, mettere a punto le sue idee e vederle rifiutate mentre nello stesso tempo veniva contattato dalla CIA e arruolato come assassino professionista. Non voglio commentare i perché di una simile scelta stilistica e narrativa, sia nel caso di Crane che di Barris sembra esserci il desiderio di espiare delle colpe e di apparire peggio di quello che sia. Probabilmente è vero nel caso di Barris, i sentimenti di essersi presi gioco della gente e di aver dato un non piccolo contributo ad abbassare il livello dello spettacolo televisivo possono essere stati la molla. Il libro è comunque un successo e offre lo spunto per una trama interessante. Il linguaggio di Clooney e' molto simile a quello del suo mentore Soderberg, autore che io non apprezzo particolarmente. Da Soderberg in particolare mutua l'utilizzo del colore e di particolari filtri colorati digitali, un processo di digitalizzazione del film, ricolorazione al computer e riversamento ancora su pellicola. Se avete visto Three Kings o Traffic avete capito di cosa parlo. Un procedimento e un lessico filmico per il quale le riprese in Messico sono in colore tabacco, quelle dei quiz in tenui colori pastello, le riprese delle azioni oltre cortina sono in infrarossi a colori che fanno finto footage e quelle dei ricordi d'infanzia in infrarossi in bianco e nero, le vicende spionistiche desaturate quasi al bianco e nero.

Mafe LA TEMPESTA PERFETTA con George Clooney Nel buon libro di Sebastian Junger che ha ispirato il film di Petersen, la vera protagonista è la tempesta che si formò e scoppiò a sud di Terranova nel 1991. Frutto delle congiunzione di tre diversi sistemi, ebbe forza e portata immensa e venne definita la tempesta del secolo e una delle più violente a memoria d'uomo nell'Atlantico. Nel film Petersen commette un errore clamoroso nello spostare l'attenzione quasi esclusivamente sulla drammatica ed umana storia dell'Andrea Gail e del suo equipaggio.
