New Line ... HollywoodStore NICOLAS CAGE January 7, 1964 Long Beach, CA Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Coppola, and spent his formative years in Long Beach, California. Talent seems to run in the family: Nicolas is the youngest of the three sons of dancer Joy Vogelsang and August Coppola, a former literature professor. His oldest brother, Mark, is also an actor, as well as a disc jockey, and he is the nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire. Nicolas' parents divorced when he was 12, so when his father's profession forced him to travel, Nicolas often found himself living in San Francisco with his Uncle Francis. Although he usually enjoyed his visits, he felt he didn't really fit in with his wealthier cousins. A sense of belonging also eluded him at school, so he wrote a general equivalency diploma exam and left Beverly Hills High before graduation. Surprisingly enough, the Coppola name proved to be more of a hinderance than a help when Nicolas began to pursue an acting career. He was a young actor with little formal training and found the casting agents were more interested in asking questions about his famous Uncle Francis than watching him perform. After several auditions proceeded in a similar fashion, Nicolas decided to take on a stage name. Nicolas owns a major collection of comic books, so it seemed to be a natural place to turn when it came time for a new name. He'd always loved the name Cage because of comic book hero Luke Cage, Power Man, so the choice was an easy one.

City of Angels Starring: Meg Ryan, Nicolas Cage, Dennis Franz, André Braugher Review Summary The female lead is a skilled heart surgeon who begins to doubt her ability to save lives. She is observed and in some ways guided by an angel (male lead) to realize that she has been doing her best and that the deaths which have occurred on her table are not within her control. In the process of doing this, the angel, from time to time, makes himself visible to the doctor. In spite of the rules the angel must adhere to, he finds himself falling in love with the doctor and becomes visible to her more frequently. In a chance contact with a man awaiting surgery, the angel learns that the man is an angel who has chosen to "fall", becoming mortal, thus being able to feel, smell, love. The angel ultimately decides to "fall" and the doctor (Meg Ryan) and the angel (Nicolas Cage) enter an earthly relationship. He has made the ultimate sacrifice, but their life together lasts only one day as a result of a road accident which kills the doctor. This story is very much like the dual sacrifices described by O. Henry in "The Gift of the Magi".

Beide schreiben Drehbücher. Der eine, Charlie, ist nervös und unsicher, der andere, Donald, ist gewinnend und frei von Selbstzweifeln. Wie war es, Cage als Regisseur anzuleiten? Spike Jonze: Wie muss man sich das vorstellen? Kam Cage je durcheinander? Kamen Sie je durcheinander? Für Nicolas war das anders. Ein Teil seines Kopfes musste darüber nachdenken, was der andere Bruder tat: "Wenn er aufsteht, muss ich mich nach ihm umdrehen, weil der Stuhl ein Geräusch gemacht hat." Zugleich ist er in der Figur drin und bezieht sich von dort aus auf seinen Bruder. Ich glaube, das hat ihn schon verwirrt. Home Il ladro di orchidee - adaptation di Spike Jonze La seconda visione rompe ogni indugio e fa innamorare di questo film incredibile, insieme privo di compromessi ma desideroso di comunicare. Ad esempio, riascoltare il primo dialogo di Cage con la Swinton non puo' che dare una sensazione di deja-vu, visto che anticipa per filo e per segno il finale hollywoodiano: "non vorrei farne un orchidea-western, o un film sul traffico di droga... o metterci per forza del sesso, o un inseguimento...". Sono pellicole capaci, per questa loro caratteristica, di essere oggetti vivi e non semplice rappresentazione. Parlare di questi film puo' portare vicino a territori linguistici anche lontani, come l'informatica. Non e' alieno pensare che possano essere i semi per una nuova "generazione" non tanto e non solo di pellicole, quanto di forme di comunicazione e di linguaggio, successive a quelle metalinguistiche. "Adaptation." non e' solo metacinema: e' meta-vita, perche' non solo e' cinema che parla di cinema, ma e' anche cinema che parla di "vita intorno al cinema", ed e' esso stesso non solo cinema, ma "vita intorno al cinema". Fa piacere confermare che Jonze e' il meno "videoclipparo" (in senso negativo) dei registi di videoclip. Dirige un film difficilissimo senza mai perderne il controllo, e al completo servizio della primadonna Kaufman. Un grandissimo. E' un dio assoluto nel filmare gli incidenti stradali, per inciso.

Home Il genio della truffa (Matchstick men) USA 2003 di Ridley Scott con Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Alison Lohman, Bruce McGill, Bruce Altman, Jenny O’Hara, Sheila Kelley, Beth Grant, Giannina Facio Dispensatore di incubi spaziali ("Alien"), creatore di un futuro diventato punto di riferimento per un'intera generazione di cineasti ("Blade Runner"), mitizzatore dell'on-the-road al femminile ("Thelma & Louise"), rievocatore del peplum ("Il Gladiatore"), regista di solido mestiere anche nei prodotti piu' prettamente commerciali ("Hannibal"), Ridley Scott si butta inaspettatamente e con successo nella commedia. Roy e' un truffatore che si vede sconvolgere la vita dalla figlia quattordicenne mai conosciuta. Sembra la piu' trita delle situazioni (doppi giochi + carramba che sorpresa!) eppure il film funziona a meraviglia. Merito di una sceneggiatura davvero strepitosa (opera di Nicholas e Ted Griffin) che oltre a curare con sensibilita' la caratterizzazione dei personaggi, si preoccupa di raccontare una bella storia riuscendo a mantenere un prezioso equilibrio tra interiorita' e spettacolo. La regia di Scott e' al servizio del racconto, non cerca il virtuosismo ma tenta di dare risalto agli elementi narrativi. Luca Baroncini plot non è così incentrato sull’arte del raggiro come un Prova a prendermi , col quale condivide peraltro più di una scelta stilistica (a partire dalla colonna sonora retrò ).
