After his quirky 1988 movie BEETLEJUICE starring Michael Keaton, in 1989 he resurrected the BATMAN series, which was last seen in the 1960s TV series with Adam West and Burt Ward. As the lead, Burton again cast Keaton, but the script by Sam Hamm and Warren Skaaren has a Robin who is AWOL. When reviving a series or a movie, there should be an idea of what new can be said. Burton's vision was that he wanted a dark Gotham City and little more. Anton Furst's Academy Award winning sets are massive monuments to nothingness. They are ugly without form or purpose, but they do create just the right mood of hopelessness and despair that Burton wanted. (An experiment worth making would be to turn off the sound and see if the movie has just about as much impact, which it probably would.) BATMAN is a celebration of form over story.

Everyone Needs a Hobby: The Tim Burton Website with a Sense of Humor Last updated October 10, 2000 Read an important update regarding the fanzine - April 20, 2000 Or move on to the links Fellow Timmies - It's been almost 7 years since the first issue of Everyone Needs a Hobby, which to my knowledge was the world's first and is still the only Tim Burton fanzine in existence. At the time, I barely knew any Tim Burton fans. I had a hunch they were out there, but I didn't know if the fanzine was going to take off. Take off it did. All three issues of this little 'zine sold about 800 copies around the world - Diamond even picked us up as a distributor. It was a labor of love and time and energy. Eric Neumann told me that he was planning to start alt.movies.tim-burton, and the founding of the zine convinced him it was a good idea. I made many incredible friends through the fanzine - including Robin and Tamandra and Virginia and Kelly and Frankenseuss - some of whom I still keep in touch with. To a certain extent, the zine founded a fandom and a subculture, and I'm proud to have been a part of that. I'd always meant to keep the zine going. I'd hoped, at the very least, I'd be able to turn it into a webzine. I

I suggest if you have not purchased a copy, you go and do so now. The stories are written in metric verse throughout. The tales are bizarre, at times even disturbing and at other times humorous. Tim Burton introduces us to a collection of strange children and creatures that are accepted by neither their parents nor the world around them because of their unusual characteristics, which plague them throughout their rather short lives. The hardback black cloth covered book is embossed with gold lettering and protected by a beautiful paper dust jacket. I have shown a small sample of the drawings from the book with this review but the images here do not do the originals justices, which are drawn in fine ink pen and printed on the wonderful creamy paper. You can see a glimpse of one of the poems by looking at Robot Boy in the flash section of the site.

This new Planet of the Apes film is being directed by Tim Burton ( Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman ) and stars Mark Wahlberg ( Three Kings, Boogie Nights ). The ape cast includes Helena Bonham Carter ( Fight Club, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein ), Michael Clarke Duncan ( The Green Mile, Armageddon ), Paul Giamatti ( Private Parts, Man on the Moon ), and Tim Roth ( Reservoir Dogs, Four Rooms ).
