A philosophical grudge match Carol Burnett set to jump on new 'Mattress' Carol Burnett reports things are looking good for the new version of "Once Upon a Mattress' she's co-producing and starring in for ABC/Disney. "The script and the director have been approved,' reports the beloved entertainer. And conversations about the production have picked up intensity this month. As Burnett fans know, "Once Upon a Mattress' is the comedic musical take on the "Princess and the Pea' fairy tale that made Carol a Broadway sensation in 1959. This time around, plans call for "Mattress' to be filmed as a movie for television, with Carol playing the evil Queen. "And we have to find the right girl to play Winifred, the princess,' notes Carol. "I'd love to discover a new young actress for it, then surround her with viable names. Let's go for a discovery there!' But, she admits, some at the network would prefer to go with a young talent who "already has a high Q.' At the moment, Carol is busy with "The Carol Burnett Show: Let's Bump Up the Lights' her CBS special taping this weekend for airing May 12. The sweeps offering centers on the weird, wacky and sometimes wild impromptu moments Carol shared with audience members at the beginning of each installment of her classic, long-running CBS show. | |
