Reading Garden Coming Patrons of the Boyd County Public Library's downtown Ashland branch will have a place to sit outside and enjoy a good book later this year. The library's board of trustees has given the go-ahead to a Reading Garden, to be built on the east side of the main branch, 1740 Central Ave. The exact cost and size of the project have not yet been determined. The Reading Garden will tie the library in with The Library Commons, a planned joint venture of the library district and the city of Ashland, and the two will blend in nicely with adjacent Central Park. "The Reading Garden will provide a charming bridge between the library and the park," said Director Debbie Cosper. "It will transform what is now a mismatched building and an uninspiring span of grass into something extraordinary." The outdoor reading space will be accessed through a new entrance from the library. Patrons will step out into a walled garden room where low ground cover will encircle a colored concrete patio. The walls will be covered in ivy to create a tranquil, light-filled space. Benches, two bench swings and several bistro tables will invite visitors to read or just enjoy the sunshine. An eight-foot water wall will gently flow into a small, shallow pool. A sculpture will sit in one corner of the patio.
